I love this game, SO MUCH!

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 09:08 AM PST

So, I've been meaning to get into the Fallout series for years, I was waiting for the right time, I guess. You know how life is. Anyways, about a month ago I finally decided to install the only Fallout game I had, which was NV. At first I was really disappointed since I'm not that good at computer games and it took quite some time to figure out the mechanics, even opening and closing the pipboy felt like a chore. I kept running around the south of the map without any quests-and getting killed- because I thought going on with the main questline would lock me out of some side stories -heh. Then I accidentally started Old World Blues. You can guess how that worked out for a new player who was gravely under-levelled.

After a few days, I was comfortable enough to take on more quests and explore other areas of the map. At that point, I realized the in-game audio wasn't enough on its own for me and I started making a Spotify playlist that consisted of songs that I found fitting to the atmosphere. I was getting more sucked in each day, I'd never seen such a well done RPG before, and I've played a lot of them. The dialogue, choices, side stories, locations, simply everything about the game was carefully crafted to lure the player in. Combined with my music, and discovering the companions, I can honestly say that I feel very emotionally attached to the Fallout universe after just a week or so.

I imagine my character walking through the Wastelands, making friends and enemies, being a part of little people's stories that doesn't mean anything to anyone else and drifting along with whatever life throws at her, doesn't matter if it's the mighty Mr. House or the creepily nice robot. I even feel attached to the companions, even though they don't have a lot of dialogue or story.

I headcanon Cass as my character's closest friend in the world (she was the first one I recruited and I kept her on for a long time since I didn't know about the companion limit), two lost souls just doing what they can to survive and ease their consciences in a world they believe to be doomed almost beyond repair. In my head they share comfortable silences around campfires after another long day in the Wastelands, drinking, smoking, playing with Rex, watching the stars and just thinking. Veronica is like the smart and capable but at the same time lovably annoying little sister who I can't just not take with me. Boone and Raul are good friends I can have meaningful conversations with. I always feel like Lily is protectively and softly hugging me whenever I need it, -after smashing my enemies violently to the ground of course- she gives my character hope about the future of the world. And Arcane is, well, you know, Arcane. Still like him though.

I really don't know where I'm going with this post, I just wanted to share my ever-growing love for this game with like-minded people since I don't know many people who played it. I am so mad at myself for not installing sooner and also glad that I didn't waste this gem by playing it at the wrong time. Anyways, thanks for reading this utterly pointless mumble, have a nice day!

Are there any ways to make the rapid-fire weapons fire smoother?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 07:25 AM PST

I'm not really sure if this is the correct place to ask this but if it really isn't, do tell me where I should be posting this

So I'm sure anyone has noticed by now that rapid fire weapons (SMGs, Assault Carbine, Minigun, Laser RCW, etc) have this weird shooting mechanic where they have a slight delay between the sound, the gun movement, and the fire bursting out in which they have a slight delay and not synchronized between each other. I tried some mods like the automatic weapon fix, real recoil, Solid Project, and Asurah which have been said to fix this but my guns still shoot weirdly and this honestly removes my interest to use this type of weapon.

Are there any way for me to make them fire smoother? Any fixes or mods that I can use to give me the feel of shooting a gun in other FPS games like CoD or Battlefield?

    Thanks peeps

Fallout New Vegas quasi philosophical essay on Ulysses, and the possibility that New Vegas is better with independence.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 10:33 AM PST

Fallout New Vegas is a work of art known to all lovers of the role-playing genre. New Vegas offers players a world composed of a myriad of characters filled with in depth dialogue, and deep thoughtful ideals yet one character stands out the most. This character is Ulysses, Ulysses obsession with history cultivated into a mission to create a new nation worthy of becoming a symbol. The three headed bear or the New California Republic to the West represents the old world, a society filled with bureaucracy and corruption, while the Caesar Legions is an organization dedicated to the return of the Roman Empire. The NCR and Caesar's Legion fight over the New Vegas territory. Ulysses saw the horrors of war when his tribe the Twisted Hairs unwittingly aligned with the Legion and were eventually betrayed. The Twisted Hairs were enslaved, and all traces of their culture were eliminated by Caesars Legion. Ulysses as well witnessed the destruction of the Divide, a land where civilization could have sprung up and become a bastion of change. The Divide's potential became a victim to the unforgiving flame called war. This beckons the question; is the destruction of the NCR and Legion necessary for the flower of a new civilization to grow? The NCR and Caesars Legion are entirely based on war and the subjugation of communities. Many can argue the NCR offers protection and a republic style government. This method of governance is wrought with the same type of bureaucrats that led to the Great War hence the death of civilization. Giving these men and women power goes against the concept of progress, this directly leads to Ulysses quote "Who are you, who do not know your history". It is ridiculous to look at history then repeat the same flaws.

History is a saga of the future because even with the technological leap's humanity has taken, humans are still the same species who wield tools of warfare irresponsibly. Caesar looks to the past as guidance to the future, but his ego refuses to recognize the Roman Empire collapsed and its demise can be attributed to its treatment of conquered people. Let us for the sake of an argument say, Caesar holds the intellectual skills and resources to recreate the Roman Empire. What happens when Caesar dies? There is no other member of the Legion that can match the intellectual prowess of Caesar. The only worthy successor I can think of is Vulpes Inculta, but Caesar chooses Legate Lanius as his successor. This line of succession spells disaster, and a revival of the old tribes that were forcefully integrated into Caesars Legion.

Frankly the NCR is worse than Caesars Legion. Caesars Legion is a vile army determined to enslave and kill all that lay in their path, yet their creeds and goals are open to all. The NCR hides about the term "Democracy" to lure individuals and communities to their conglomerate state, then they ensnare these once free people through taxation and a system that works only for the rich. One knows what they are getting with the Legion, but not the New California Republic. The people of New Vegas ought to hasten the collapse of these two superpowers. Independent New Vegas can be considered chaotic, one can assume out of this chaos a new force shall develop offering new ideas and ethics, rejecting both bureaucratic and reactionary forces.

Fanfiction writer looking for someone still passionate about New Vegas to bounce ideas off of

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 05:22 AM PST

    Hello, hello!

Fanific writer here. As the title states, I'm looking for someone who's still passionate about Fallout New Vegas after all these years to bounce a few ideas off of. I have one complete long fic (200k words) and one in progress long fic (140k words) along with two fics that are probably abandoned. For anyone interested, Here is a link to my stories. My penname is MuzzledRavings.

Anyway, I'm considering a new character and thus new story. For this fic I was thinking of challenging myself and writing a Courier who is mute or deaf/hard of hearing, likely from the bullet. This character needs to be fleshed out significantly.

Also, I'd love any ideas that you have that you've thought would make good stories but never bothered to write. Perhaps wasteland encounters or what ifs or fun ideas for couriers.

    Thanks for your time!

Heartache by the Number and the Silver Rush Crier

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 08:05 PM PST

I forgot I helped Cass by turning in the Crimson Caravan and Van Graffs to the NCR, and when I walked through Freeside I was attacked by the Silver Rush crier along with 4 of their thugs.

Provided I don't actually go into the Silver Rush and kill Gloria or Jean, will Cass still get the peaceful ending even though I've killed their thugs outside?

    Companion Nerve?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:49 PM PST

Companions are supposed to get a 5% boost to damage and armor per point of Charisma(up to 50% at 10 charisma), this is referred to as Nerve in a loading screen.

Yet no matter where I look, I can't find this variable, it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the GECK or scripts or game settings, has anyone here found a way to check or edit this value?
