It would be cool knowing that the Lone Wanderer literally stepped into the SS's shoes. I don't have a lot of details to support this other than the fact that the SS was a war hero who was ready to give a speech at the beginning of F4 - it could be that his memories were retrieved by the Army and were chosen because of his distinctive service. We know that memory extraction technology existed then (Memory den) so hey, why not? Feel free to discuss or poke holes in this idea, just a thought I had while playing 🙂

Why the Master is the best Fallout villain (in my opinion)

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:32 AM PST

    Some background story

Richard Moreau was originally a vault dwellers who were spared from the events of the great war. Being one of the first to leave the vault, he established himself as a doctor at the Hub. His life would be forever changed by the FEV vats he found at the Mariposa Military Base. After falling into the vats, he emerged as a mass of flesh and mind. Discovering the remarkable abilities of FEV, he began a crusade against nonmutants to bring about Unity through a more evolved race.

Point 1: He is not unreasonable in his goals

For the larger majority of Fallout 1, the player is not aware of who or what the Master is. It isn't until the primary mission of the Vault Dweller is done that the mutants become a problem. This makes the Master a larger mystery than villains like the Encalve (Fallout 2&3) and the Insititute (Fallout 4) who make themselves established from the start as a threat to the wasteland.

The Master believes that the age of humanity is over and that humanity must evolve into something better to survive the world they created. Although he is determined in his goals he is not unreasonable. When speaking to him he about his future plans for humanity he says this:

"Of course not. Most will be offered a chance to become a mutant. Those who deny this opportunity will be sterilized and let go. Those that resist will be executed." ~ The Master on humans in his world

Being the leader of a potential new world order is a complex job and given what he has to work with he has better organization skills as well.

Point 2: His Faction is the most stable Supermutant faction

While the master is in control the mutants under his command are a significant upgrade from the other mutants we see throughout the Fallout world. Although some of the mutants are pretty dumb, they also serve as either grunts or test subjects. Otherwise, intelligent mutants serve high roles such as commanders. During his reign, the mutants were the most organized and the most effective mutant faction in the wasteland at the time. After his demise, the super mutant race became nothing more than violent nomads looking for FEV vats to increase their race. Attempts have been made to organize mutants but the only successful attempts were under the former leaders and commanders of the Master's army.

Taking pride in his work, finding out that all his work and hope for a new race gets dashed when you reveal the truth. His interaction with the Vault Dweller on this is the main reason why I feel he's the best.

Point 3: He is emotionally complex

"I... don't think that I can continue. Continue? To have done the things I have done in the name of progress and healing. It was madness. I can see that now. Madness. Madness? There is no hope. Leave now, leave while you still have hope..." ~ The Master shortly before committing suicide.

When you convince him that all his work has been a failure he emotionally breaks down. His entire life was dedicated to creating a unity that would save humanity and to find out that it has been a failure is crushing to him. The Master's reaction is one of the saddest interactions with a villain in the series. There has been no other villain in the series who has an emotional end like the Master. Frank Horrigan has to be killed, Colonel Autumn must be killed, the factions of NV can be negotiated with but the factions themselves do not change, and you cannot convince Father that the Insitute is doing harm.

The Master is (as of now) the only faction leader that is capable to listen to reason and shows great remorse for what he has done. He shows a complex emotional response to his endgame and through words, he could be convinced to take his own life.

TL;DR: The Master is the best villain because he is reasonable in his goals. He is not genocidal for the sake of it. He believes in what he is fighting for and is willing to be merciful. Once his flawed logic is revealed to him he shows genuine remorse for what he has done and commits suicide because he has no reason for living anymore.

    Fallout New Orleans

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:05 PM PST

    Hear me out

    • Excellent jazz music
    • Stories centered on Creole culture and Mardi gras
    • Voodoo and the implications that can have on the wasteland
    • Hotter temperatures than New Vegas (don't you wish for a nuclear winter?)
    • New Orleans can be very creepy with it's twisted history of slavery and human rights abuse
    • The biggest mosquitos this side of the Mississippi
    • Mutant alligators
    • Mutant snakes
    • Mutant alligator snapping turtles
    • Feral ghouls hiding in swamps

Feel free to add more ideas!

New Orleans went through it's own sort of fallout with Katrina and the response by the government. They're familiar with the notion of fending for themselves and trying to rebuild their city while dealing with disaster. This seems like the perfect location.

It's been done a million times before, but what are your most unpopular Fallout opinions?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:15 PM PST

Assuming anyone comments, sort by controversial for real answers. Cause, "NV is underrated" isn't unpopular.

Fallout 4 Survival Mode Pro Tips (Platinum Edition)

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 02:58 AM PST

Enjoy my 8 "Do's and Dont's" Fallout 4 Survival Mode guide, tailored specifically for noobs:

    1) don't finish a long combat-heavy quest that takes a bunch of reloads to complete, desperately finding sleeping bags to save throughout

    2) after finishing it, don't burst out into the wasteland super happy with yourself and go to multiple settlements that you've meticulously built for 40 hours to trade off all the spoils of your explorations without saving in a sleeping bag

    3) don't then change up your companions in a blissful state of victory, taking extra care to make sure their inventory is perfect for later, and that your new companion will have everything you need without overloading them

    4) also don't then traipse around the map with your new companion visiting multiple carefully-constructed settlements and build a bunch of new, tasteful shanty shacks, all-the-while carefully considering what weapons you should upgrade, which ones you should sell, and which ones you should store in various settlements for arriving settlers

    5) don't then smugly pick your best new outfit, pick your best weapon load out, and plan meticulously for your next junk-collecting quest

    6) don't then travel to one of your far-off settlements that you've been thinking about in the back of your mind for 3 days that needs more settlers, your character hopped-up on strength drugs to help carry your carefully-considered load out and junk delivery.

    7) importantly, when you arrive, don't get mauled to death by completely random and out-of-character-seeming radscorpians, no matter your best drug-injecting, dodging and weapon-VATS-ing efforts, knocking you back 3 hours of progress (back to somewhere in the middle of stage 1)

    8) do restart your game and make a new character, wishing angrily that BGS made a mode of the game that requires food and drink but also allows quicksaving, and post about it sarcastically and super depressedly on r/Fallout

Anyone interested in a Fallout-themed Minecraft Survival Server?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 02:17 AM PST

Does anyone want to play on a whistelisted miencraft server with fallout theme builds? There would be no rules. Everyone could build anything, everyone can create own factions and towns, factions can have wars and start attacking. Only rule is, if you grief someones home or base without any reason, then you will be banned. If enough ppl are interested I would make a server

You know what I am grateful about Fallout 4 and Fallout 76?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 04:08 PM PST

That the radio stations in these games doesn't have the freaking JOHNNY GUITAR.

I don't care who is Johnny, I don't care about his damn guitar nor if Johnny's cold outside.

Thank the lord for Country Roads and Atom Bomb songs!

Release Fallout’s 1,2 and tactics for iOS & Android.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:07 PM PST

Just as the title reads. Bethesda owns the rights to the IP (this includes the originals) and seeing as tons of other developers are rereleasing their classics for mobile I'd absolutely love to be able to play the originals on my phone.

Tons of fans haven't even played them and I'd gladly shell out $10 for these beauties. Make it happen!!!

What is your favourite town/city/base in Fallout?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 02:47 AM PST

In all of the Fallout games, what is your favourite location that has people living there, whether this is a town, city, a base or bunker etc.

    Ideally not abandoned places etc.

To answer my own question, my answers are a little strange I guess.

I really like both Big Town in Fallout 3, and Camp Forlorn Hope in New Vegas.

The reason for this is that both can be improved by the player action. For example, bit town when you first arrive is on it's last legs and almost abandoned, however when you complete it you can have 3 extra residents, revive another residents, give them 2 robots and get them a trader with a personal tamed yao guai. You compelely turn the town around, same with Forlorn Hope.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:50 AM PST

Guys, i have played(and finished) Fallout 4 three times, and it is my favorite game. I also love Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I just recently bought Fallout 76 and i dont really like it, i dunno why, and i would want to enhance my Fallout 76 experience, what should i do. In other words, how would you convince me that Fallout 76 is a good game, worthy of the name.

Must do things in Fallout 4?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:47 AM PST

I'm coming up to the end of my Fallout 4 playthrough, and I expect it to be my last.

I spent weeks modding the game fit my play style with realistic damage (think Metro in Ranger Hardcore mode), a healthy balance of texture, lighting, and environment mods, UI mods, I made my own Def_hud preset after spending way too long trouble shooting to get everything to work correctly in 21:9, spent ages making sure all items had tags and were sorted correctly, added a nice mix of lore friendly weapons, and spent too long editing their damage values to make sure they suited the realistic damage mods I had, and most importantly thoroughly tested it all on a burner save file to make sure it was all stable and ran well.

And yet despite all of the effort I put in to try and 'fix' the game to my liking, I'm utterly bored of it. I work full time and don't get to play games as much as I used to, but I still took 'breaks' from fallout to play other titles from my backlog, and yet after the first 5ish hours of my playthrough, it just rapidly devolved into a slog, and the quests felt like a chore. I genuinely tried to get invested and involved in the characters and the stories, but now unlike my NV playthrough, i'm just skipping through all terminal entries, and none of the dialogue interests me. Even the Nuka World DLC that I heard tons of good things about felt like a massive slog to me, and I frankly didn't enjoy any of the characters or the storylines.

The only things left on my list for my playthrough so far are joining the Brotherhood of Steel, finding the Atom Cats and their questline, and the Far Harbor DLC. If there anything else that you guys particularly enjoyed in fallout that I should do before I drop it for good? The size of the game after I've modded it means I won't be keeping it installed.

What can cause complications in the creation of Super Mutants?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 12:59 PM PST

I remember from the OG Fallout that Wastelanders generally made for dumber super mutants because of the radiation taint muddying the transformation, but is there any established lore on other factors? Age, for example? Would a particularly old person be any less effective a mutant, assuming they survived the process?

Or, since I suppose I should just say it, can children be turned into super mutants? Because that opens up some dark shit for exploration.

I will be resuming my survival playthrough after about 1 year or so.I'm about lvl 30-something.I was wondering how should i approach the dlcs and in what order?

Is it worth killing the bosses in Nuka World or get the perks and then kill them?(no i'm not siding with them)

And how about Far Harbor?Who should i side with?I was thinking on killing the CoA and kill all synths(doing a BOS run),but i'm still debating on the CoA thing.

I need to pic your minds and i want to hear all your opinions

How can I play the first three Fallout games?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 03:36 PM PST

I'd like to try the Fallout games that came before Fallout 3, but I'm not sure where to get copies that function without issues on a modern system.

I would imagine anything on Steam wouldn't work, but what about Good Old Games?
