Has there been any explanation as to why Fallout radiation lasts so long? Posted: 08 Jul 2021 12:37 AM PDT I think I'm correct in saying that radiation 200 years after the bombs dropped would be almost a non-issue. Radiation in levels high enough to be noticed within a short time of exposure doesnt occurs as of (I think) a couple days after a real nuclear blast. Now when doing research I hear 2 things, that there were a lot of bombs and that the whole Fallout world is powered by nuclear energy. As for the first point, the amount of bombs really doesnt matter after 200 years. As for the second, standing next to cars in fallout is harmless unless they're significantly damaged, so we know that the reactors inside cars (which are presumably the most powerful reactors that were available to the public prewar, since houses are still electricity powered) are safe even after these 200 years. My question is, if these 2 things are true which I could be mistaken about the lasting effects of radiation, is this EVER explained? Did the Fallout bombs utilize some fictional element emitting this new long lasting radiation? Are the rules of radiation simply different in Fallout? Or is it just one of those things that clearly wasn't thought about when the games were being made so there's no point addressing it now? [link] [comments] |
