I would give anything for a 3D Remake of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 available on multiple consoles

Something like Wasteland 3 or Atom RPG. Still isometric. Give it a modern UI. A director's commentary. Some art books, behind the scenes stuff. Soundtrack. Maybe voice acting? Maybe that's too much. But I would love a modern version of these games.

I know nearly any computer can play the games. But I'd like to be able to play it on my console or switch. And I'd like to see the game be given a touch up.

And yes I know about the source code. I think they should be remade rather than just remastered.

I don't care what Bethesda says about remakes. I still want one and I think these games deserve it.

And even if the remake has issues we would still have the originals at the end of the day. I'd rather them give it a shot and fail than not at all.

My Favorite thing about New Vegas is how big the world feels while playing it.

    Posted: 24 May 2021 10:39 AM PDT

It really feels like you're only experiencing a small sliver of a bigger wasteland. Everywhere you go you meet people from other places or hear stories of other locations across the wasteland. Wether it's back in California, Arizona, the Enclave in Chicago or out in Utah with the New Canaanites.

People constantly drop the names of other settlements you haven't heard of and it's fun to speculate what their real world location is, Rattletail, Two Sun, Day Glow, Ashton, Dog City, etc...and rumors of different kinds of people. It's like how Mad Max makes references to places like Gas Town and the Ammo Farm even though we never see it.

(FALLOUT 4) Did you know that if you press the powerattack/throw grenade button on third person it does a special animation that staggers the enemy ?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 09:31 PM PDT

Edit: Forgot to include that you need to press it two times in a row near an enemy for it to work...

    Faulty radio in new Vegas?

    Posted: 25 May 2021 04:42 AM PDT

I've started New Vegas recently but there's a pretty glaring problem at least for me. There's no music, stuff like combat and exploration music plays just fine but when I tune into any radio...nothing. I've heard many others have the same problem with the announcer on the radio talking followed by no music but for me there's literally nothing. I turn onto a radio station and there's just no sound. I'm playing it after I've reinstalled it and the music never had any trouble on my first install from what I can recall. What's a fix for this? Should I reinstall again?

Skill checks need an overhaul before truly coming back

    Posted: 24 May 2021 07:19 PM PDT

Skill checks in Fallout, and video games as a whole tbh, have always been weird and unsatisfying to me. Too often are you presented with a skill check where it's a simple single check that you either pass or... don't. You don't even fail so much as you simply don't succeed. And too often it's just a simple single check that immediately works provided you have enough arbitrary points/levels of the perk. This system is, to me, uninteresting.

Now, 76 actually slightly addresses this issue believe it or not. Not in any extreme way, but slightly. A couple of the Special checks in 76 require successive checks. For instance (if I recall this correctly, it has been a while), trying to convince a leader of the Raiders to work with you on the vaccine for the scorched plague requires about 3 successive special checks. However, the checks are any combination of Perception, Charisma, and Intelligence checks. You could do 3 increasingly difficult Perception checks, or maybe 2 Intelligence checks followed by a Charisma check, etc. The game also has negative checks, requiring a Special stat be certain value or below. These are improvements, but more could still be done.

New Vegas experimented slightly with having skill checks actually cause problems with Dean Domino in Dead Money. Now, it was really simplistic and didn't really work imo, but still an interesting concept.

So how would I suggest to improve the system?

    1. Everything 76 did. Allow for negative checks and multiple skill check combinations rather than requiring investment into one specific skill/perk/special.

    2. Don't list thresholds, unless specific requirements are met. It's kinda odd that the game tells you if you are going to fail or not, because how would you know? Why would I know if I have enough points in speech to convince someone to do something? ...unless I was a very charismatic or perceptive person? This will be continued in the next point.

    3. Different skill checks are valid, but at differing levels of effectiveness. For example, maybe someone is more receptive to speech and science, and less receptive to barter (but could still be convinced through barter). To continue with the last point, a charismatic character could see that someone is "strongly inclined" to listen to speech and "slightly inclined" to listen to barter. The exact thresholds aren't shown, but you get a rough idea.

    4. Some skill checks actually make the situation worse. Perhaps someone is receptive to intelligent arguments, but absolutely hates any attempts at smooth talking. This would be telegraphed after trying it, as it doesn't immediately lead to hostilities (point 1, multiple checks) which allows you to prevent yourself from screwing yourself over with 1 click. These are also shown by being charismatic/perceptive/intelligent or whatever.

    5. Have multiple thresholds, not just pass or not-pass. Make failing some skill checks actually make the situation worse. For example, someone receptive to logical arguments might also hate people with illogical arguments, which is what you would make if you fail the skill check by a fair amount. Trying to repair something might result in no progress, but it could also result in damaging it more. On top of this, if you pass a skill check by a lot, the person might immediately be on your side, no extra checks required. Not only do you repair the cool gun, but also improve its base damage. Etc.

These are just rough thoughts, but I'd be interested to hear what you guys think.

Out of all fallout locations Appalachia, Big MT, Capital Wasteland, Commonwealth, The Divide, The Island, Mojave Wasteland, New California, Point Lookout, Zion Canyon, and The Pitt; which holds the best technology for reviving and or destroying the wasteland.
