How the Railroad could’ve been cooler

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:17 PM PDT

After 2000+ hours I can say that personally, the Railroad feels like a bunch of hobos cosplaying as secret agents. They wasted a lot of potential by not even copying their own games (the bare minimum of creativity).

We meet the Railroad by following the Freedom Trail. Cool implementation of an IRL thing! We come across their HQ and...unlock the door with "Railroad" as the password? Ok...THEY WERE EXPECTING US?? Woah! What...their first question is "Who are you?" Mf didn't you just say you observed me following the freedom trail? Deacon pops up and explains the situation...why so late wtf you literally teleport around Goodneighbour between like 2 different disguises. Plus you decide to brief them on someone you've been following since Vault 111 opened (evidenced by the Railroad lookout near the Vault) JUST NOW?

Compare this to another group shrouded in secrecy in a different Beth game: The Dark Brotherhood of Skyrim

You steal a kill of theirs and they fucking kidnap the goddamn Dragonborn and put him in a shed in the middle of fuck all and test you to see if they have a new recruit. You never find them, they'd never let themselves be found by just anyone because that's a dumb security risk.

Imagine if we'd get to the entrance and it has some sort of retinal scan so we give up and leave. Next time the Sole Survivor slept they'd wake up in an unfamiliar place surrounded by the Railroad asking them why they were snooping around. From then on if they decide to be a dick to the Railroad they'd awaken back in their bed with a note warning them to stay out of their affairs.

After receiving the Courser Chip or killing Kellogg you should be treated the same way you were treated in New Vegas after meeting Mr.House. Everyone's out to be your friend because you just entered the big leagues. The Railroad would send an agent that gives you the rundown they give you in the vanilla game: We decode it and give you the data but we keep the chip afterwards.

Being able to pass a master lockpicking check when you first meet them would allow you to break free and kill them if you want, which leads to you doing some wild shit like plucking out an eyeball to access the Railroad HQ and access Tom's terminal.

In Oblivion, the Order of the Mythic Dawn had sleeper agents in random areas and it wasn't evident that they were of the order until you make enemies with the order, upon which they'd attack you on sight.

So many things that could've been done to the Railroad but instead they get wasted as a bunch of Synth hippies. Hell they could've been one of the main factions that would've been like "Wait Father said he'd name you his successor? Guess we don't need to blow up the fuckin Institute anymore if we have one of our agents acting as the damn Director" instead of the "Pick a side + minutemen and then blow the rest up" ending we got.

Love this game to death but I wish we had better main faction options for the main vanilla game since the Railroad uses all their resources to fight ONE fight. They're so one-dimensional it feels wrong to have them be one of the kingpin factions you can ally with.

What weapons from the old Fallout games would you like to see return in future titles?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 08:44 PM PDT

Personally I'd love to see the old assault rile from FO3 come back. It just looks so fresh.

Why do people hate fallout 4 so much

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 01:49 AM PDT

I see NV or classic fallout purists constantly shitting on 4 and people who played it online, and it's so annoying. personally I've played every game (except 2) though at least once and 4 was by far the most enjoyable for me.

why cant people just like what they like without having to shit on everything else and feel like they're better than others

What’s your opinion on Fallout 4’s power armor?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 10:13 AM PDT

I've found, especially after doing a heavy weapons BOS playthrough, that the power armor in Fallout 4 just makes me feel like a hulking badass. I was wondering what the community's thoughts on Fallout 4's power armor was and any good or bad experiences with it

Did The Railroad Save Any Synths?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 07:59 PM PDT

    Hear me out.

The way I understand it, the Railroad rescued Synths from the Institute, and then wiped their minds, gave them a basic new personality and sent them out into the world.

If the personality and memories are what make a Synth a person, isn't wiping that away just killing them? Or have I misunderstood what the Railroad were doing?

Rant: Anyone sick of all the Fallout * vs fallout * stuff

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:27 PM PDT

It's getting more popular on YouTube and it's all just basically making a straw man and then pretending it's real. IE 4 gameplay is worse than nv said no one ever) or Fallout 3 is not canon (actually argument I've seen).

A Day in the Life of Diamond City Guard

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 07:23 PM PDT

    (Part One)

Slamming my beer down on the warped wood table, I raise my hands in defeat as Vadim slaps down a royal flush.

"Damn! You got me! I had 100 bottlecaps riding on this!"

Vadim chuckles as he grasps the mound of bottlecaps from the center of the table. He shrugs and says, "my friend, Vadim always has a trick up his sleeve, don't I Yefim?" He calls out to his brother who is standing near the hotel rooms. Yefim rolls his eyes and shakes his head.

I push my chair back and stand up. Stretching, I hear as my back pops and loosens up. What a long day. Had this synth encounter, and had to shoot it. Honestly, I still have no idea if it was a synth or not, but I had to take some action. To make matters worse, a newcomer to Diamond City has the nerve to flap his mouth at me. Should've hit him on his head with a swatter. He's bad news, and I should keep my eye on him.

Shaking my head, I run my hands through my hair and say, "Well Vadim, next time, ay buddy?" He knowingly jingles the caps in his hand and laughs and nods.

Picking up the beer from the table, I take the last sip, and pick up my swatter. I swing it out around absentmindedly as I think of tomorrow's patrol. Who knows? I might mess with Myrna and make her believe I'm a synth of something. Always gets a good laugh out of the Diamond City Patrol.

The loss of that 100 bottlecaps stung though. I really thought I had a shot at winning, but Vadim… he's gotta be pulling something from somewhere. I have to go talk to Malcolm tomorrow on another "agreement". I've been letting him skate by on some questionable trades he's been making, and I think it's time to cash in.

Thinking about a scenario idea featuring BoS

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 02:06 AM PDT

This concerns tabletop RPGaming, but not to the extent that it requires the knowledge of the relevant system - I'm more concerned about lore.

    The idea:

    • a bunch of BoS soldiers land in a place separated from the rest of the organization
    • there's no way for them to reach it or contact it for the time being
    • all they have with them is their personal armament, knowledge and enough equipment to set up a small outpost

In short: think about the situation Paladin Brandis (FO4: Lost Patrol quest) finds himself in.

    Now, the questions:

    • Is it specified anywhere just what are typical orders for BoS group that went too far into the wild and can't reach BoS in any way? Is it supposed to stay where it is and await help, or try to come back against all odds?
    • Let's say some interesting technology is involved - an artifact very relevant to BoS' interests but can't be moved. It's the size of a small building if it helps. Should the group abandon it, destroy, or simply stay there and study/secure it?
    • Finally, the BoS is virtually unknown in this parts of the world and there's going to be an interaction with local folk, who are on the level of advancement compared to typical FO town like Megaton: not highly advanced but not tribals either. Should the group act as ambassadors and reveal BoS' most obvious goals, or should they lie about their origin, or perhaps they should rather avoid contact at all?

If anyone knows some parts of lore that might be relevant to these questions, I'd be grateful for the pointers.

    Thanks!

Behold! He is coming with the clouds!

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 11:51 PM PDT

And every eye shall be blind with his glory! Every ear shall be stricken deaf to hear the thunder of his voice! Let the men, women, and children of the Earth come forth to gather and behold the power of Atom! Let those who dwell here in his favored land attend now to the words of the Prophet of Atom! Come forth and drink the waters of the Glow, for this ancient weapon of war is our salvation, it is the very symbol of Atom's glory! Let it serve as a reminder of the Division that has occurred in the past and the resplendence of the promise of our division in the times to come! Give your bodies to Atom, my friends. Release yourself to his power, feel his Glow, and be Divided. There shall be no tears, no sorrow, no suffering, for in the Division, we shall see our release from the pain and hardships of this world. Yea, your suffering shall exist no longer; it shall be washed away in Atom's Glow, burned from you in the fire of his brilliance. Each of us shall give birth to a billion stars formed from the mass of our wretched and filthy bodies. Each of us shall be mother and father to a trillion civilizations. Each of us shall know peace, shall know an end to pain, and shall know Atom in his glory. I urge you, my friends -- come, drink with me and pray... Glorious Atom, I give unto you these feeble bones. I present to your will this frail body. I beg of you to use me as your vessel, guide me to your brilliance, divide each particle and give relief to this rotten flesh. Cast the fragile form of this ephemeral body into new life in the forge of your Glow. Atom, come -- bestow your presence on your unworthy servant. We stay true, until the Day of Division -- until the dawn of your return to His humble world.

What unique gameplay mechanic would you implement in Fallout 5?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 12:15 AM PDT

I would personally have the player be chased by a ruthless army of bounty hunters that are always tracking them so the player can never stay in one place for too long.

Fallout 4's weapon customization isn't all that great

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:21 PM PDT

It has always bugged me how little customization the guns have. You can choose between many barrels and recievers but those are flat number bonuses most of the time. Most weapons end up having a set of up upgrades that make all others obsolete. And the fact that some of the weapons aren't all that different from each other makes the game feel like it lacks variety.
Maybe they should return to the Fallout 3/new vegas style of weapons if they ever make a new fallout game.

How do you think the laser musket would be viewed if it was a weapon mod instead of an official weapon?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 08:14 PM PDT

'Cause the laser musket's pretty cool at first, but quickly becomes replaceable

So I wonder how people would've seen it if it was a mod instead
