Unpopular opinion: jurry rigging is useless after dead money

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 07:59 AM PDT

Hear me out but find jury rigging useless after I complete my dead money playthrough and get my infinite repair kits from the vendor in the bunker and the 1000 chips every 3 days . So with this in mind the only use is armor and armor repair is fairly cheap and even the most expensive armor to repair e.g power armor can only be jurry rigged with other heavy armor and 90% of heavy armor is other power armor .

So if you're using light armor e.g Ulysses duster or Joshua outfit jurry rigging is useless .

Veras skeleton in the Sierra Madre casino

Don't know if this should happen, but when you shoot Vera's skeleton it bleeds, furthermore you can blow limbs off. Her head will explode and litter the floor with bits. Is she just a body modeled after a skeleton?

Should I buy fnv for PS3?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 04:08 AM PDT

There is a upcoming birthday and I'm wondering if I should get fnv as a gift. She has a PS3 and isn't planning on getting a new console anytime soon. I heard that the game didn't work very well on there. Is it really bad or is it still worth buying? If not, do you have any suggestions for open world games?

Edit: She has steam on her pc, I'll buy it there. Thank you for the help!

An ignored build : concentrated fire automatic grunt build

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:48 AM PDT

    Hello,

there is tons of build in new vegas and a lot of them got their spotlights.

I think there is one that has been ignored :
The deadly combination of fast shot, grunt, concentrated fire, grunt.
On a first ground, associating automatic weapons and fast shot seems a silly idea : automatic weapons don't benefit from the increased fire rate of fast shot. Effectively, but one of the advantage of automatic weapons is that they got the best ratio VATS point/damage besides some unarmed weapons.
Automatic weapons will always have a poor accuracy in VATS because they're highly limited by their weapon spread. Then they would poorly benefit from traits like trigger discipline, even the use of perks such commando, sniper would be marginally beneficial.
However, they benefit a lot of concentrated fire that enable them to even shoot ennemies from far away (with high enough action points and as long as you have a 1 % chance of hit in vats, you can stack up attacks to reach a decent score).
Other beneficial perks and traits are action boy/girl, kamikaze, grim reaper sprint. Perks that help regenerate action points work too slowly to be really beneficial even atomic with very high radiation and shouldn't be the priority.

What you want for weapons is : the lowest action point cost, a high magazine capacity and a good ratio dps/damage.

Three weapons shine on that level :
_ The light machine gun, with the lowest action point (18 AP), 5 shots per vats at 21 damage (boosted by grunt) however it lack of armor piercing ability. AP 5,56 might help but they're very rare and stockpiling them might require you to cycle through bardon/great khan armorer and vendortron and wait three days many times before getting enough of them. The LMG has a very high magazine capacity (200 once modified) meaning that you won't waste any AP reloading. Furthermore, this build will eat a lot of bullet, and the LMG shoot the cheap 5,56 surplus and the 223.
_ The assault carbine, it has the high action point cost of the three (20 AP) which remain quite low. It deal the least damage but it has a high armor piercing ability. It has also the lowest strength requirement (3), and shoot a cheap ammo. However, it has the lowest dps that remain decent. The main flaw is the low magazine capacity, with a magazine capacity of 30 (once modified, 24 unmodified), you need to reload every 6 shot in VATS.

_ The 45 ACP submachine gun. The balanced choice. You can craft you're own armor piercing armor, and once modified it has a decent magazine capacity. It has the highest damage, the highest dps. Obviously, it has less armor piercing ability than a LMG with 5,56 armor piercing weapons, but you can craft it. The assault carbine might have an even higher armor piercing capacity, but you deal more damage against mediumly armored enemies.

VATS might play three roles : cripple, control, eliminate.
_ Cripple : useful against deathclaws, just shoot their legs and then eliminate them in real time shooting. You can also easily cripple cazadores wings.
_ Control : you will easily shoot the grenade an enemy will launch at you, killing it, protecting yourself, you will also easily cripple the antenna of a cazadores, starting a civil war among them.
_ Eliminate : you just want that nightkin wielding a rocket launcher dead ? Easy. You can "snipe" enemies, from very long distance, at the cost of a lot of ammo, if you stack enough attacks in VATS.

Note on grim reaper sprint : when you use vats to eliminate an enemy, grim reaper sprint will give you back 20 action point. That you kill one or ten enemies in VATS, you will get always 20 back. You have then interest to focus on one or two enemies by VATS session.

Note on displayed vats chance : even with low vats chance, your attacks will touch much often, the whole burst might not reach the enemy, but would still be effective.

Note on critical hit : automatic weapons tend to negate all your critical chance, making the fact to focus on critical hit with them a poor things. In VATS, you have always a 5 % chance, despite any multiplier. That 5 % chance apply to the whole burst, for instance, light machine gun shoot a burst of 5 21 damage bullets, during a critical hit, the 5 will be critical and deal 42 damage (53 with better critical). So whatever is your luck stat, you will have 5 % chance of shooting a critical hit in VATS. Getting max critical hit chance might boost it at best at 6 %, so it's not worth wasting your special for a 1 % extra critical hit chance. However, light touch give you another fixed 5 % chance. 10 % of dealing a critical hit isn't that high, but you shoot a lot. You have then to choose if you want protection and choose medium or heavy armor, or more critical hit chance.

I prefered to play in heavy armor to roleplay a NCR heavy trooper, however light armored build might be more effective. You remain quite effective even in heavy armor.

Note on turbo and implant grx : both combine well with that build, you can start with using your vats points, then switch to turbo while it regenerate and alternating this way vats phases and turbo/grx phases. A lot of drugs improve your action points, so investing in chem perks would be extremely beneficial, and more interesting than action point regeneration.

Note on the Implant Y-7 : it's the most effective way of regenerating AP. Eating food will give you back instantly 2 action points. Broc flower count as food and weight 0.01 pounds, being the most weight effective food to regenerate AP.

I tested that build on very hard, and it work even against deathclaws.
I hope reading that will make you reinstall new vegas to test a new build.
