After thousands of hours playing Fallout 4, I just realized Starlight Drive in makes no sense.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 05:26 PM PDT

I started a new playthrough and made my way down to Starlight Drive in and I heard Codsworth say the line, "It looks like a movie was showing when the bombs fell." With the pre war intro still fresh in my mind I finally put two and two together and thought, "well this is pretty stupid."

The bombs fell on a Saturday morning with the screen facing to East. I'm not sure if Avengers 50 would be coming out in 2077, but those are some pretty dedicated cinema fanatics to be going to a movie with direct sunlight blinding the screen.

I know this is a nitpick, and Fallout New Vegas has a drive in with a few cars placed in it too. But I wonder sometimes if the game should have had a developer who's only job is to look at things and ask if they made sense.

Why does the Mechanist just stop making robots after Automatron?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 07:31 PM PDT

Spoilers for Automatron if you haven't played it.

So, after you defeat the mechanist, if you pass a quick charisma check, she realizes that what she was doing was hurting people, and stops making robots to just mope around in her lair. Except, the only reason they were hurting people was that the Robobrains were psychopaths. Once you take them out, there's no reason that she couldn't just give the robots normal programming. Codsworth could certainly understand the concept of helping people. I know the fuses blew, but that's fixable, she's clearly a mechanical genius.

It would've been really cool if there were groups of Reformed Mechanist robots out there fighting the good fight, or even if you just got some Automatron robots for free that could protect your settlements, or they were added to Minutemen patrols. Would feel like the world was a little bit safer and better.

Plot ideas for the next game

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 09:58 PM PDT

Hello everyone, Ive had an idea I though was kinda interesting and thought it would make for a a fun plot for the next fallout game. Of course this wont happen for quite some time, especially with the whole 76 fiasco.

My idea was that we play a character that was talen by an unknown organizatio/group and this group has been testing experimental FEV virus on people to see if they could cause some reliable result, maybe to create an army of mutants like the master or to create reliable psychics, without the drawbacks of reduced intelligence or other issues.

Other experiments would break free of containment not too long after the player character was injected, this would result in the main scientist and others to flee the facility. This would then allow the player to break free and have to avoid the other patients and the remaining members of this organization to escape. Once they would escape they will eventually realize that they have been infected with this virus that will eventually cause them to change into Something else. they player will then seek out the scientist responsible to either find a cure for this illness or simply seek revenge for their imprisonment and experimentation

Mechanically I was thinking that the virus would open up a second perk table like the S.P.E.C.I.A.L chart from fallout. though these perks would grant tenpting benefits but as you go further down a tree you may find drawbacks to the perks and even further, you would see your character visually changing. Like growing in size, turning green, and losing intelligence by becoming a form of super mutant. Maybe the player might gain psychic abilities to charm or control others, but they lose strength or endurance and change visually by becoming extremely thin and frail maybe ghoul-like. Maybe even perks that grant qualities of some of the wildlife of the wastelan, like the shell of a mirelurk or the strength and intimidation of a deathclaw

Aside from the obvious visual changes and power the virus perks may grant, your physical changes may cause others to treat you as a monster or freak, and by looking like for example a super mutant, you would be treated like one by others and would be allowed to trade and possibly do some missions for them.

also mutations that increase your size And alter your body in ways, might limit the clothing and armor your can wear. Such as becoming A being like a super mutant, you would have to wear ragged clothing and pathwork armor, though the power you've gained from becoming a mutant might be worth it for some of you. Or perhaps becoming an incredibly frail and fragile psychic, that is nearly always bound to a suit of power armor to allow movement and survival might suit you

perhaps to allow the player some way of controlling their mutation, they would find a way to create some form of serum that would suppress their mutation, temporarily removing the perks, visual changes, and drawbacks they have gained for a period of time. Though for those that delve too far into their mutation and the power it grants, even this serum would be unable to suppress their mutation.

So what do you think? At least those of you that read through my wonderful wall of text. I know i never mentioned a location because that doesn't interest me as much.

Texas Mexico border fallout mod for New Vegas coming in 2021

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 06:47 PM PDT

I am working on a fallout project that will add the cities of Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas to the game, so far I have learned how to use the GECK so this shouldn't be a mod that disappears and dies in 2 months

    Weapon Naming Schemes

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 06:32 PM PDT

The Fallout games have been rather inconsistent with how they names their weapons. In general, they use a more 'Generic' weapon naming scheme ('10mm Pistol', 'Laser Rifle', 'Minigun', etc), relegating their real-life names or in-universe names ('Colt 6520'/'N99', 'Wattz 2000'/'AER9', 'CZ53'/'M134', etc. respectively) to the in-game item descriptions (Pre-Bethesda) or certain lore terminal entries (post-Bethesda). There are exceptions, however, like the vast majority of weapons in Fallout Tactics, AER14 Prototype from Fallout 3, YCS/186 and LAER from New Vegas and the M79 Grenade Launcher in Fallout 76.

On one hand, using the Generic naming system makes it incredibly easy to know what you're picking up without actually looking at it. A 10mm pistol is obviously a pistol that shoots 10mm rounds, and a laser rifle is obviously a rifle that shoots lasers, and so on.

On the other hand, having their actual names could be incredibly immersive, from a certain point of view. Sure, you could argue that most wastelanders wouldn't know what a random gun they looted would be called, but most guns that I've seen have had some sort of etching or engraving on the side to tell their model and who they were made by.

My question is, which would you prefer them to use exclusively as a standard method? Would you prefer if they used a more simple and useful 'Generic' naming scheme like how they usually do it, or would you prefer the potential extra immersion of having their full in-universe names listed?

I found that there is a possibility of a legendary bloatfly spawn near Poseidon reservoir... Instead I encountered 3 deathclaws and a behemoth... I was level 20 and it didn't go well.

I turned FO4 into an epic love letter to all of my favorite films

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 06:36 PM PDT

I use a lot of mods when playing FO4, everything from hollywood bullet tracers to multiple companions, full dialogue to full fledged weapon packs. I'm always on the hunt for more immersion, and searching the nexus for more mods led me to a wonderful discovery. It's a simple mod called "self radio." It allows you to add your own wav files to a custom radio station that can be played at anytime. I installed the mod and immediately added "The Postman" soundtrack, as well as many hans zimmer peices. I added some more tracks from films like inception, cast away, Lord of the rings, bridge to terabithia, you name it. Pretty soon I had 25 tracks all neatly converted to WAV, ready to go.

Now I don't use self radio all of the time. I usually have it turned off when I'm in town, or working on my settlement. Once I'm out in the wilderness, I'll switch it on. It immediately enhances the world and makes everything I'm doing a much richer experience. Regular raider skirmishes now accompanied by The Postman's orchestral overture transforms a usually dull firefight into a battle not only for survival but liberation, the seemingly senseless violence now filled with passion and purpose. When you get really lucky and a dialogue from an npc matches up perfectly with an inspirational piece of music, it really takes it to the next level.

It's just cool to me that the mod that has improved my experience the most has been one of the smallest, and is essentially a blank canvas for me to put my own style onto.

Why wasn't the male sole survivor some kind of construction based profession? Electrician? Or even an engineer?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:52 AM PDT

Think about it, the Sole Survivor is skilled at building anything and everything from houses to beds to functioning electronics, up to fully tricked out sentient robots armed to the teeth.

Now I can understand why maybe the female Sole Survivor would still be an attorney, they make bank. But the male Sole Survivor should have, depending on their aptitude, either been some kind of trade or in the engineering profession. Maybe in the military they were in the Army Corps of Engineers?

Can wasteland be considered a fallout prequel?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:41 AM PDT

I was thinking this due to a shit tons of mentions to wasteland and the desert rangers. Example: NCR hired desert rangers for help protecting new vegas. Both of the game has deathclaws, ghouls and FOA, just with different names, various weapons have same name and so on

I made a Jet commercial for Wasteland Weekend

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 02:24 PM PDT

Context: Wasteland Weekend is a Post Apocalyptic festival with heavy Mad Max inspiration, but theres a large number of Fallout lore based tribes as well such as Good Neighbor and Little Freeside. My tribe are chem runners. I made this commercial for the missions we run and also just cause I wanted to make some fun Fallout video. Enjoy. :)

An idea for a Fallout game set in the Four state Commonwealth?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:42 AM PDT

Here an idea where Caesar's legion has broken into many lesser factions who are ruled by their Legates. the player's character wakes up in an abandoned prison with no background as to why they left in the prison. The player's character must leave the prison into the New Mexico wasteland to find clues why they were left in prison and soon after that change struggle in the New Mexico Wasteland?

The setting is in the surrounding areas around Albuquerque and Santa Fe New Mexico

Because of the death of Caesar during the event of Fallout: New Vegas the legion quickly implodes into warlord legions waring against each other and some of them simply split off from the legion to from their own legions and doing their own things.

It plays out like Alexander's Successor's Wars of the Diadochi. The lesser legions who survive wars from their legion identities and customs across the wasteland who control parts of New Mexico Wasteland. While some of them turn back into raider gangs who raid the settlements across the New Mexico Wasteland.

Fallout 3 crashes after editing .ini file

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:41 AM PDT

I've been struggling to work Fallout 3 for the past week now. Everytime I edit my custom INI file, it immediately crashes the game on startup. I've done everything on the setup guide, including disabling G4WL, and the only two things that I've edited on my INI file would be ArchiveInvalidation, bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2. Why is this happening to me? How can I fix this? I've downloaded almost every mod I can to fix the constant crashing after 10 minutes of gameplay but nothing works. Not even the Fallout 3 patches. Please help, and thanks.
