| Super Mutants (What or Who created them?) Posted: 28 Sep 2020 03:03 PM PDT I've put over 600hrs into Fallout 4 with it being my first fallout game. Since then I've gone and completed Fallout New Vegas but none of the others. I know I'm missing out on a lot of lore and this question has probably already been answered, but I'm curious. Who really created Super Mutants? Was it the U.S. Military, the Institute, or some freak mutation due to radiation? Going through terminals and seeing what other people think on Reddit, I always assumed it was the military because they were messing with FEV before the war. But I haven't found a terminal on my multiple playthroughs that say something along the lines of soldiers turning into green muscle monsters, just them being more aggressive and stronger. I question the institute because of our lovely green friend Virgil. He worked on an FEV experiment of sorts from what I gathered in the terminals and holotapes under the purpose of figuring out how to improve humanity (like Kellog's cybernetics). The only reason I'm suspicious is because of the terminal where Shaun used Director override to delete something from the terminal (although it may have been to cover up his escape). It still makes me wonder if the Insitute just one day decided hey let's do live test subjects on raiders or settlers. I'm still getting all my info about Super Mutants from Fallout 4 so there is probably some big thing in Fallout 3 that might tie this together, But we also know Doctor Zimmerman was in Fallout 3 and he was missing from the Institute in Fallout 4 so I like to assume the Institute has influence in The Capital Wasteland and could also bring their experiments there like how we saw androids in that game but synths in Fallout 4. The only other thing that comes into mind is a freak radiation exposure to FEV (because they always say a mutated strand of FEV aside from Danse who just talks about FEV, but he's a synth that hates synths so....) Those are my thoughts, I want to know what other people think and if anyone can enlighten me with some knowledge that would be great. [link] [comments] |
