Deacon has a secret dialogue line if you're an absolute nobody in Fallout 4.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 05:36 AM PST

As you may know, when you discover the Railroad you are met by Desdemona who asks who you are, before Deacon steps through and explains who you are. He says things like busting Nick Valentine out of captivity, clearing out Fort Strong with the Brotherhood, leading the Minutemen, killing Kellogg and more. But if you leave Vault 111 and head straight for Old North Church, unlock the passcode and speak to the Railroad, when Deacon interjects he can say these in the conversation between you, Des and him:

Well, he's got to be someone. He made it down here, right? Normal people just don't do that.

Player Default: What, normal people can't figure out your decoder ring out front?

These days being able to even spell "Railroad" is cause for celebration

Player Default: What's the big deal?

Either you figured out how to slip by bad guys, ghouls, et al. So you're smart. Or you blasted a path straight through. In which case, tough. Either way, kind of impressive.

What are our options? Shoot him? C'mon. We need friends, Dez. Now more than ever. And I got a \real* good feeling about him.*

On The Cloud from FNV's Dead Money (LORE)

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:19 PM PST

I was just playing old world blues and dead money and I've come across some lore entries in terminals that I would love to share with the rest of you. I know that a lot of you read every lore entry but a lot of people don't so this is just for the people who miss terminals or skip reading everything. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

These will be on unexplained things from dead money

    Let's start with the villa

The villa is intentionally constructed like crap with poor quality construction. It's made cheaply because Dean and the foreman were working together to steal money from the budget.

A lot of old world drama with both Dean and Sinclair (the guy who made the casino) sleeping with Vera, Sinclair because he loved her and Dean because her voice is needed to get into the vault.

Basically everything that was wrong with rh casino was because Dean was trying to steal the gold.

The cloud was put there by the think tank from big MT an one of their experiments and the poor construction just made the cloud grow in the vents.

The ghost people are actually the construction crew from the villa and are wearing hermetically sealed suits similar to the trauma harnesses around the big empty.

Vera had (cancer??) and was in constant pain and because of that constantly hopped up on medex and stilmpacks.

The majority of tech in the casino (ghost people suits, auto docs, vending machines, holograms) actually came directly from big MT. This is because the were as stated before using it as a testing site.

Bonus fun fact this is also the only DLC for NV where Ulysses was not there before you/is the direct cause of the events. I think, I'm not sure, but I think he was afraid of it for whatever reason.

If you want to know about anything else from there ill try my best to answer any questions in the replies. Thank you if you took the time to read some of the lore I've found.

So just what is the population of the NCR now? Its not 700,000

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 03:54 AM PST

The population of the NCR was approximately 700,000 at the time of Fallout 2, 80 years after the events of Fallout 1, but 40 years later the NCR has surely gotten bigger.

There are a number of factors that would be driving this growth. The birth rate which would likely be higher than it is in the modern world closer to developing nations given the agrarian base.

Then there's expansion. Reports vary on how much New Vegas expanded between 2241 and 2281. The wiki reports the incorporation of only two new communities. Redding and Sac-Town. But I've also heard that the NCR encompasses much of what used to be California by the time of New Vegas though I can't confirm this.

There's the birth rate, which would likely be close to what it is in agrarian societies but with modern medicine to keep the children alive.

Then there's immigration, people surviving in the wastes would no doubt be drawn to the one major bastion of civilization. Though not everybody, many who have learned to be self reliant would chafe under the NCR's rules and taxes.

Between immigration and birth rate, I estimate population growth at 2.25 percent per year. This is somewhere between the 1.1 percent per year that is the current world population growth and the 3 percent per year enjoyed by America between 1790 and 1820.

To account for expansion, I'm going to apply a one time 25 percent increase in population. It doesn't matter when I apply it if you understand basic math.

When I calculate all of that, I get that the population is 2.13 million which frankly seems conservative. Assuming that about the same portion of their population was in the military as the US has, they have a fighting force of 13,000 people. However if you consider that 16 million americans served in the military during WW2 at a time when the population was 132 million, the NCR military could be as much as 200,000 though I doubt they have the resources to outfit such a military. Given the current need for military I think its safe to estimate that they have at least 30 to 50 thousand active duty.

Stop saying Fallout 3 is just about finding your dad

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:04 PM PST

People often talk about how inconsequential the main story is of fallout 3 because it's all about you just trying to find your dad. But fallout 3 isn't about this. It's about the lone wanderer providing clean water to the wasteland. The lone wanderer's adventure begins with trying to find you father and leads to you defeating the enclave and giving everyone water. It's very similar to the story structure of fallout 1 and 2. In fallout 1 you are tasked with getting a water chip for your home vault which leads you to eventually fighting and defeating the Masters army, saving the wasteland. In fallout 2 your goal is to get a Geck so you can save your village of arroyo. This leads to you destroying the enclave and saving the wasteland again. You see, fallout 3 is just like them. You start out with a somewhat minor goal and end up having a huge impact on the wasteland. So please stop saying that fallout 3 is so dumbed down compared to the other fallout games because of its minor story.

The man Todd Howard himself, created for your viewing pleasure

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 02:14 PM PST

A project needed my class to do "Hyper-Realism" portraits. Everyone else was producing high quality illustrations of like, musicians, actors, one person at my table did Tom Holland and someone else did one of the McElroy brothers from MBMBAM.

Me using all of my ginormous IQ and lack of forethought, decided to take a different approach, using the time given to produce something beyond expectation., surpassing my peers purely on concept alone.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/VIMtgeH i bring you... TODD

though the project called for "Hyper Realism" i couldn't capture the essence of Todd himself without a copy of The Elder-Scrolls Skyrim in the background but sadly i ran out of time to add that section to the artpiece. Even without it i'm very happy with how it turned out, though calling it something that is Hyper Realistic when its my first genuine attempt at illustrating a real person (mind you we had to actually trace a picture of the individual we were drawing then use that picture as a shading reference)

I like it, while i was drawing it, i was listening to a few of Mr Howards talks over the past couple of years relating to game design, and i love hearing his thought process when it comes to the minute details like the box cover for Fallout 3 and how he wanted that to shape out.

From all across the Fallout series, WHO is your favorite companion and why?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 06:48 PM PST

In light of the post about Deacon and various opinions on him, spanning from him being the most beautiful of men to actively creeping people out (though some seem to love his voyeuristic tendencies), I am interested to know which companions people tend to prefer in their play throughs. Narrowing it down to just one seems downright impossible.

But if I was pushed to pick a favorite I would say I enjoy Raul the most (nothing I love more than sneaking around and hearing Danny Trejo say "This crouch-walking is hell on my back, boss.").

    What about ya'll?

I don't want to walk all the way to Far Harbor with a squire. What can I do?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 02:57 PM PST

I have done a survival Brotherhood of Steel build and I am on the quest Leading by Example the squire wants me to go all the way to National Park Campground in Far Harbor and I don't want to go there. Am I doomed to not do this quest unless I go or what? I wanted to do it but not if I have to go there.

Vault Boy on an OLED Arduino module

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 04:12 AM PST

    Another meaningless headcanon

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 02:26 PM PST

So we have all seen a change in appearance of the vault suits over the years with little to no explanation. My first theory is that vault tec issued more advanced suits to the vaults the company considered higher priority.

Theory number two is that all vault dwellers were given sets of suits to use at there own disposal. A darker more insulated suit for colder situations, a brighter more breathable suit for hot and humid environments, and a more versatile suit designed to be altered and customized to the the specific dwellers' need.

In FNV is there a way to restore stuff after using the disable console command?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 01:30 AM PST

I accidentally deleted an entire section of my player house which was a mod when trying to clean it up. My last save is about an hour old and I'd rather not replay that that if there is another way.

Got kind of burnt out suddenly, haven't played in two weeks. SPOILERS AHEAD . . I found the institute, and now I am going for (hopefully) the good ending, so I am doing the RR quests, done with Minutemen and BoS. I reckon there are not many hours left until the "ending" or are there?

Fallout: The Dumbest Rags to Riches Story Ever

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 02:03 PM PST

u/DeathDragon7050 recently made a post describing how Fallout 3 isn't just about finding your dad, it's about defeating the Enclave and giving the wasteland clean water. He then goes on to say that's just like Fallouts 1 and 2, where you're just some dude sent to do some activity that wouldn't have much affect on others, and you end up doing huge things for the wasteland!

But then a comment helped me realize something, that's basically the premise of all the main line Fallout games. Where you, some random dude with no real significance are sent out to do a minuscule task, and you end up being the savior of your respective region of wasteland!

And now examples from all the main Fallout games

Fallout 1: You, the Vault Dweller, are a guy sent from a vault to find a water chip to get water for his vault. But you actually end up destroying the Master's entire army of super mutants!

Fallout 2: The Chosen One is sent out to find a G.E.C.K. for his village. That's it. But then, you go the path of destroying the literal remains of the U.S. government, killing a hulk beast of a man so hard his torso splits in half, and blowing up an entire oil rig in the process.

Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer goes to find his dad, but because of what his dad has started, he had to defeat basically an entire army of Enclave soldiers and give the whole of the D.C. wasteland clean water.

Fallout NV: The Courier has to find the guy who shot him, but he gets tangled up in that guy's business and ends a conflict between two huge factions over control of the entire Mojave.

Fallout 4: The Sole Survivor goes to find his son, but ends up playing a courier and ending a war between not two, not three, but four major superpowers.

Fallout 76: Ok now this one might seem kinda far fetched but hear me out, originally the game just tells you to find the overseer, but you end up doing all this crazy stuff like joining the Enclave or the Brotherhood, and fighting huge fire dragons!

Well, I just thought that was kind of interesting, I hope you enjoyed this thesis of mine. Again, thanks to u/DeathDragon7050 for the inspiration

Is it possible to visit the graves of the Survivalist’s second wife and son?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:59 PM PST

It's mentioned he buried them south of the Narrows, which is the Sorrows' camp. I searched caterpillars mound but I found nothing, unless the graves are meant to be eroded away with a tree sprouted there.

Are the fire ants in Fallout 3 a re-skin of any Elder scroll monsters?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:21 PM PST

Playing through fallout 3 and visiting Grayditch I think it was, I saw the fire ants and immediately questioned if they were a re-skin of something from the Elder Scrolls. Having never played any of TES, can someone answer this question for me?

    Trouble with starting Honest Hearts

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 05:03 PM PST

So, I decided to start the Honest Hearts DLC and had to empty out my stuff and leave alone. Stored stuff in penthouse (read about a glitch with the shipping crate) and had Veronica wait in the penthouse as well. But when I got back to begin Jed still says that I need to leave my companion behind. Any way to fix this problem? Or is it a problem at all and I'm just confused on something?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 04:57 PM PST

I kinda want to do a play through of fallout where i use an assault rifle but I also want to do one with a minigun. Is the assault rifle gonna get me throught the end of the game? Both would have similar perks, but both seem fun.
