Why I Stopped Playing Fallout 3 Ten Minutes After First Starting It

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:36 AM PDT

A few years ago, a friend recommended the Fallout series to me, back before the PS4 was out and I was still collecting trophies on the PS3. (Ahh, memories)

I popped that sucker in after deciding it was time to take a break from The God of War Collection, because I wanted to see what all the hype was for this series. Plus, I'd never played an RPG before.

I'll admit, the graphics turned me off slightly, but that mixed with a small-ish TV far from my bed and my singular eye sight didn't help.

I hate bugs, man. Like, I really hate bugs. So you can imagine my stomach churning at the sight and sound of my first ever Radroach.

    Not the bad part.

My mom made some Hamburger Helper that night, and it was on a big plate in front of me on my bed while I was still smashing these little assholes against the cold, vault floor.

Suddenly, the sound of the Radroach and the sound of my fork moving around in the Hamburger Helper kind of sounded the same. I didn't like that, no, not one bit.

And that's the story as to why I didn't play any further into Fallout 3 until a year or two later. Because of Hamburger F'ing Helper.

If you bought Fallout 1st, you're part of the problem and the reason why the Fallout 5, TES 6, and Starfield will be glorified slot machines.

    That is all.

I'm not sure how I feel about people loosely using the term 'evil' to describe Bethesda like they're on par with Hitler or Stalin. It would be much more appropriate to call them greedy or assholes, or greedy assholes.

So this is my Line, not my first but my last (Fallout 76)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:42 PM PDT

DISCLAIMER: (Expect grammatical errors, I'm not going to edit this, i really cannot be fucked)

I purchased the Power Armour edition, i was dedicated, i was a big fan and to some a bit of a whale, well here and there.

I haven't really touched the game in since i finished it (like a week after the B.E.T.A.) besides logging on to see the updates and trying to run it through lutris a couple of times, tbh it's not even worth the effort. The updates I've seen have never been on the game i swear it, besides the new items in the Atomic shop these problems still exist: (i bet this list is bigger)

    • Lagging on load in / On death
    • Falling though the world is pretty much a game-play feature at this point
    • Nothing loads as it should or in some cases not at all
    • A shit load of graphical problems, just open the game, you'll see them.
    • Settings menu sucks ass still (fuck the blur) why should i still need to go to the .ini's to change my settings and not to mention but to also play the game you need to edit the file
    • I would love to exit the game without opening the map

After taking the backseat and relaxing I've always hated seeing videos and watching people criticize the game with all of its problems, this is on me and i treat it as a reminder that i put my money into this game, my mistake daunts me, even just looking at the thumbnails of videos does it for me. But its a reminder none the less.

The only thing that is growing about this game is the Atomic shop and if that's booming that's all that BGS gives a shit about. Clearly.

What happened to making games that we all used to love. What happened the dedication, was there even any. What happened BGS?

I've always said "I'm done" and have went back on my word, but this is it. This post is my line. The line I'm not crossing over again. Maybe you will learn from this cluster fuck or you won't, i don't know and i don't care. As a fan of the series, to me this isn't canon. This game doesn't exist.

So I'm done and by a looks of it a majority of the community they were gone a long time ago, its time for me to put down my pitchfork and cross the line.

I keep talking about this line and crossing it, ill explain to the best of my ability of what is is. It's like a puddle you can walk around it or through it and well finding this puddle, though, that's not the hard part. It's letting go.

    What was your darkest moment?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 04:44 PM PDT

As in, when did you do something in any of the fallout games that made you feel like a piece of shite?

For me, it was when I betrayed the railroad. I went in guns blazing, and tinker Tom was the last one alive, and he was cowering in a corner. Now, me and Tom had become great friends in my rp, so it was awful to see the fear I put into him. Then he grew a pair and started shooting me, I got pissed and took his head off with a super sledge, and left with a heavy heart.... what about you guys? Sad feels only pls

It's October 23rd, 2077. Nuka Cola are announcing their newest concoction: Nuka Cola Quantum! In order to help promote their new product, they obtain a suit of X-01 power armour, and give it a beautiful quantum paint job. But, they do not stop there. The Nuka Cola company team up with Corvega to create an all-new prototype automobile: The Corvega Skyline. This would also bear the quantum theme in order to help reach a wider market...

Help -- Dead Money is buggy as hell

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:50 AM PST

What I'm worried about is not being able to finish this DLC and consequently not being able to start others. Here's all the bugs I've encountered and how I've dealt with them:

    • Dog/God bug at the Villa (Elijah not recognizing all three companions are there) - fixed this with a mod
    • Triggering the Gala event only showed fireworks, nothing else happened - fixed this with commands, teleported to the casino lobby
    • Killing Dean made the "Dean has died" notification unable to close - "fixed" this by completing the quest with commands instead and running the hell away

And now the one that's leaving me trapped - I'm at the part where I'm supposed to collect Vera Keyes' music from the reception, but I'm unable to collect the Ambient track. I'm thinking this has to do with the Dean bug. I tried to spawn the holotape in my inventory with commands but then it doesn't work on the speaker in her suite for some reason.

If someone has any idea how to go about this, I would really appreciate the help... I know I'm definitely not starting the damn thing over.

    Not so serious builds

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:39 PM PDT

Or in other words builds based on funny or whimsical ideas. What are some of your builds that fit that demographic?(or future ones that you're planning on doing)

Going into November, I've been wanting to do a sarcastic butcher on fallout 4 who has a meat shop that sells mysterious meats in his local settlement in preparation of Turkey Day.

Stupid Story About My First Time Playing Fallout

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 01:09 PM PDT

    Context:

By the time I had joined the PS3/360 console generation, the PS4/XBONE one was already underway.

I was hanging out with a friend of mine who worked for a certain retailer, and was aware of my taste for apocalyptic-themed media. He tells me "remember that game you saw me play at my place that you really liked? If you want, there's a sale at my store, and I can get it for you for $5."

Before this, I'd never played an action RPG, and didn't know what to expect.

My friend comes over with the game, and stays to see if I dig it. I'm immediately taken by the dialogue options and the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. setup.

We get to the birthday part of the tutorial and Im upset with the Butch "sweetroll" interaction. "Well, not much you can do about that," and I continued.

Now it's time for me to meet with my father for the birthday present. A BB Gun! I immediately leave the room where you shoot he radroaches and my friend asks "where are you going?" "You'll see..." I reply.

I get back to the party and try to cap Butch right in the head. "FUCK!" Im visibly upset as it doesn't work, and next to me is my friend, keeled over laughing. He never thought to try to level that, and it being my initial instinct made it hilarious for him.

Well, I spent the next two months on Fallout 3, until the release of Falliut 4, and was immediately a fan of the franchise.

Thanks if you stuck around for my long story.

    Silent protest on Bethesda

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:27 PM PDT

I thought of something that would show Bethesda. don't play the game for good or atleast don't play for a week maybe on Nov 10th to 17th. Just abandon fallout 76 for good. We have put faith in Bethesda for too long this is the final straw I'm deleting Bethesda launcher and deleting my Bethesda account no turning back. I've given them too much faith and neither should you this has got to stop if we cut their fishing lines they will see we don't want this. This is for the benifit of both us and Bethesda we won't support them if they release shit like this.

    My First Time With Fallout

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 10:27 PM PDT

I saw a user make a post about their first time playing Fallout 3 after their buddy got it for them, quite a funny story to read dude if you see this. It inspired me to write about my first time with the Fallout series.

Back in 2012 around August or so, I started playing World of Warcraft. I heavily played it for like the next three months and in the middle of November, I was starting to get burnt out over it. This was my first time playing World of Warcraft, or any RPG for that matter. I loved it, so I started checking out other RPGs.

In all the videos I watched, all of them recommended Fallout 3 at one point or another. Now see, at that time, I was pretty picky with my games. I didn't like first person games or games that were nonlinear, so I was looking for an open-world RPG. Thing is it was first person so I was iffy on getting it.

However, the open-world aspect of it convinced me to give it a try. I went to the store and got a $5 copy. Honestly, I think that may have been the best $5 I have ever spent.

I think I was in sixth grade at the time? Surprising, I know. I should have been playing Black Ops 2 instead, but like I said, wasn't a big FPS person then.

When I started it up, I instantly fell in love with it. The intro told me everything I needed to know, and I was hooked! The entire sequence where it fast forwards through the years I thought was interesting. Honestly, the opening levels in Fallout 3 may be one of my most memorable video game experiences.

Then... when you step outside and see the Capital Wasteland for the first time, breathtaking... in a strange sense.

I loved everything about it. The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, the perks, the dialogue, the setting, the quests, etc. Was just an awesome experience to me. Fallout 3 helped me learn more about other RPGs as well... such as not killing essential NPCs for the hell of it because I think it's fun to kill people in games. It also helped set the stage for my love of post-apocalyptic fiction.

A month later I picked up New Vegas and Jesus H. Christ, now THAT is a game. Every few years I go back and revisit them since they're like old friends to me. I just hope that, in the future, Bethesda does make right with Fallout after the massive failure that was 76.

What sort of hypothetical post-game content would you have liked to have seen for New Vegas?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:09 PM PDT

Just for the sake of discussion. If you could influence the development of a NV post-game, what would you want to see from it? Obviously could never be anything too crazy, I'm just thinking along the lines of new quests and conflicts.

Quick example...I think a raider/cannibal invasion would have been interesting. Say there's a raider tribe from Utah that's about half the size of the NCR's population - one that is so successful at what they do that barely anyone knows about them. The post-game begins two months after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and the circumstances of the invasion change depending on what was accomplished. Caesar's Legion was defeated? The raider tribe sees opportunity. Caesar reigns supreme? The invasion becomes a suicide mission intended to cause as much damage as possible because they have no interest in being swallowed up by The Legion and they would rather die than accept defeat and nothing else.

(Hardly compelling, but that's about as much as I can come up with based on what remains after the endgame.)
