Is there a companion you would happily kill in Fallout 4?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 02:08 AM PDT

Started playing Fallout 4 a few days back. I got Preston as my follower but boy does he piss me off. If i need him to pick up items, he just walks away. If I'm trying to sneak attack someone, he gets in front of me and takes the hit. If I'm trynna retreat he blocks my way and I die. Does anyone else hate any character for reasons like these?

What's your WORST idea for the next Fallout game?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:50 PM PDT

Could be setting, game mechanics, retcons, platform exclusives, marketing, whatever. As long as it's a horrible idea, we want to hear it!

I'm depressed about the future of the Fallout series.

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:14 AM PDT

I've made a post about this already, but Bethesda takes a really, really long time to make games. They used to not take that long. There was only a two year gap between Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Fallout 3 after all. But development between Fallout 4 and Starfield is going to be seven years. Between that we had... Fallout 76? Do we count that?

Anyway, we're going to probably have to wait a really, really long time for another Fallout title to come out way. And to be quite honest, Fallout 76 doesn't really interest me as far as stories go. I'm invested in the story of the wasteland as it develops, so I want to know what's going on the west coast After New Vegas, and if the East Coat managed to develop in any way.

Now... when I mentioned this before, I got a lot of negativity for pointing this out. I got comments like "Oh, well do you want annual titles like Ubisoft does?! That's bad!" No, obviously not. But I really, really fail to see how wishing to wait between titles to drop from being a decade long to six years is going to result in titles that are as rushed and unfinished as a Call of Duty game or Ubisoft title. I really, really don't see how that's equivalent. Yes, Bethesda titles are big rpgs. I understand they take a while to make, but I don't see why they can't let other dev studios develop titles for the series like they did with New Vegas, and that was a very huge successful title that fans still remember. Inb4 "Obsidian isn't the same as it was though!" Yeah, okay, but I'm not specifying Obsidian. Do you LIKE waiting two or three console generations for a new game like GTA fans do? Ngl, that kind of really sucks. And Fallout 76 just really isn't the kind of game I want from a Bethesda title.

Now, I fully expect to be downvoted a lot for my negativity and criticism of Bethesda. I know that's kind of all I can expect from a lot of toxic fans, even I myself am a fan, otherwise I wouldn't be wanting more games from them. I may sound presumptuous, but I've just experienced this far to many times to expect anything different.

Why are the Vaults numbered so randomly?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:53 AM PDT

By that I mean, for example, the Vaults in Boston are 75, 81, 95, and 111 (I know there's a bit more, but I'll only be mentioning these ones)

Why, for example, aren't Vaults 1-5 all in one city, while Vaults 6-10 are in another city and so on and so forth?

Why are they, like, just scattered everywhere?

    Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:28 AM PDT

I've been a Fallout fan since I played the demo of the original Fallout, Junktown with a minigun. I reckon I played through that demo fifty times. Until very recently, I'd play through Fallout and Fallout 2 once a year. I've played through 3, New Vegas and 4 countless times. In my younger days, mates and I used to get together to play Fallout Tactics over LAN. I even made a tone of maps for us. I've had some awesome times with my partner in Fallout 76. I love Fallout, awesome franchise.

Here's the kicker. I love Fallout: Brotherhood of steel too. A mate and I played through that game countless times. Late nights, intoxication, giggling fits over the stupid stuff you could do. When we unlocked the ghoul, I stood in a puddle of radiation and yelled 'I'm healing', dropping dead a few minutes later because I hadn't unlocked the radiation healing perk yet. We'd do ridiculous things during that last level. It was stupid fun. I wish I could play it again, while I have the physical PS2 copy, I've got nothing to play it on.

I'm not really sure there's a point to this post. Brotherhood of Steel cops a lot of hate, I just wanted to share that I had a good time with it, for what it was.

For Fallout 5, have a power armor skill

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:17 AM PDT

I've seen a few people talking about how Fallout 4 made power armor too accessible compared to previous Fallout games, how can someone who's had no training know how to work it.

You could also ask how someone who has a few hours of training would be able to perfectly operate it from then on, but a person couldn't figure it out on their own after a time. A person who gets into a tank isn't going to never figure it out, granted they may run over a few neighbours in the process.

So for Fallout 5 we need a power armor skill, when it's low you move slower, attack slower, etc. But as you level up and learn new skills you have greater control. The skill could also start at different levels based on the character, e.g. Nate would have had basic training in it at least but Nora would have to start at 0.

That way power armor becomes something that you need to put in the effort to get good at but is still accessible.

For the life of a me I don’t understane why Centaurs cause so much discomfort for me.

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 05:56 AM PDT

I could fight death claws and yau guai with nothing but some slight panic, but those centaurs just let out an internal fear in me. Looking at them causes some fight or flight response in me so strong that I avoid them half the time, and when I'm forced to confront them in close spaces like buildings and vaults my only response is to fight with long-range or sometimes even explosives.

As someone who is actually put off by insects and arachnids, my fear of centaurs actually overshadows that fear in the game. The few times they have managed to get close to me I can't help to let out a scream and quickly pause the game.

Nothing in video games has ever actually made me feel this way and I am stumped on how, trust me I've felt afraid playing horror games but somehow these centaurs do something worse to me than any silent hill, fnaf, or resident evil could do.

Don't know why I posted this, just really wanted to vent about how bad they were after going through the Reilly's Rangers Quest.

Yes, Fallout 4 might not be a great RPG, but that’s kind of a good thing.

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:53 AM PDT

I think at this point, most of us have heard people complaining about F4s "weak" RPG elements and passed it of as a FPS with "role playing elements"…and I'm prepared to agree with that statement, but that's not to say it's necessarily a bad thing.

A lot of people on this sub will probably disagree with me here (although I would consider myself somewhat of a Fallout veteran and been playing the games since the release of F3 I am quite new to this sub so I'm not quite sure what the general consensus might be) but I think the charm of the different Fallout games are just how different they are from one another. The first installments gave us this tactical, tabletop-like, classic RPG style that worked great for the sake of storytelling, role playing and introducing the world to this amazing universe. When Bethesda took the reins they changed the format (and imo improved the way you experienced the Fallout universe) and made for two of the most memorable gaming experiences I've ever had in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (yes I'm aware that was more of Obsidians child). And if I were to say that role playing were at its greatest before Fallout 4 I think most people would agree with me. But does that necessarily make them better games?

I would definitely argue that what made (especially) F3 and FNV memorable were the quests, characters, exploration, backstories, customization and choices you could make within the games. It was never the gameplay (at least for me) that made them particularly memorable. These were the strengths of the games and made them, arguably, into some of the best games ever made.

When F4 was released it was met with both praise and critique. Actually a lot of critique. For not being like the previous games. And I get that. Yes F4 had quite shitty choices when it came to dialogue, limiting the player to being nice, or nice with sarcasm, or just refusing quests which never lead anywhere really, making the choices feel like they didn't really matter because the game wanted you to take a certain approach in every situation. It got critique for its voiced character and making the sole survivor feel like it wasn't your character but rather a premade entity that you had to take control over for the duration of the game. I could make a long list of all the things that it received critique for but I don't think that's necessary. Instead I would like to mention what makes the game superior to its predecessors. The gameplay and engine is a vast improvement, combat is intense and feels responsive, the variation of guns, the crafting system, looting and exploring (damn this game is beautiful at times), the variety of items and apparel, leveling up and the perk system, the addition of color in a Fallout game (like seriously, F3 was at times as exciting as staring into a concrete wall with the same amount of color variation). There are many more things that I think the game excels at but for the sake of saving your time I will halt myself there.

What I want to say is that yes, F4 might not be a great RPG (even though being labeled as such) but if one stops viewing it as such, it can actually be one really great game. And I think that's kind of the beauty with this game, it's not like the others before it. In a world where we get recycled sport games and FPS on a yearly basis, isn't it great to actually get something new for a change? I for one think that it's fun that we got something new and different for a change and while it's far from perfect (what game is anyway?) I for one really, really enjoy it. The other Fallouts are not going anywhere and nothing is stopping you from playing them. They are all great, in different ways, and that's the beauty of it.

That's just my opinion. Thank you for reading this far. What are your thoughts? Oh and have a great day!

Edit: I'm starting to notice that this might be a hotter topic than I previously thought, so don't get me wrong, I prefer F3 and FNV over F4 but I think it is enjoyable in other ways and going in with the expectation of it being a great RPG in the same sense as previous mentioned titles, all you'll find is disappointment. However, changing your mindset can go a long way and make the experience more enjoyable. Is it good on Bethesda's part to brand it as a true RPG? Well no but it is what it is and if you don't want any part in it that is also fine! We are all entitled to our own opinions and can't like everything we come in contact with. So to summarize what this whole post was about: You don't play F4 for its RPG aspect just like you don't play F3 for its graphics. And if you still hate F4 with your very guts, that's totally fine! We should all give Bethesda (and other game developers) warranted criticism and hopefully we will get better installments in the future. But if you're like me and can see past the label then I think you too can find that game is quite good. Thank you for your comments, it is if anything really interesting to see how much you truly care about this franchise and I hope you have a good evening!

    Automotron essential to 4

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:20 AM PDT

So for anyone who doesn't know, the Automotron DLC is beyond Essential to 4. I had no idea Cogsworth could be changed from the worst companion to a steel juggernaut of instantaneous death. All I have to do is shoot an enemy with my weakest weapon and he will take care of the rest and I still get the XP. Absolute game changer

My game has been crashing at different points when I shoot enemies, this problem has only started recently too which has been seriously frustrating as i can't play my survival save for an extended period of time, the most i can play is an hour and then i get into combat and it crashes after landing one or two shots.

Looking for the best current melee/PA build in F76.

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:55 AM PDT

It has been quite some time for me since playing Fallout 76, I left about a year ago or so with a melee build. A lot of things have changed and I assume the melee and PA build meta has changed a lot.

I am level 72, I have no clue of what the best melee build is currently.

I'd like to 1 hit most enemies if possible, I know the Queen will always be tough for a melee build.

If anyone has any suggestions for me or anything at all as far as builds and the best PA for what I'm looking for that'd be great!

    Perks, weapons etc etc. Thx.

New Vegas mod idea-open for anyone to make

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:24 AM PDT

hey so im replaying New Vegas again for the 3/4th time and every playthrough i always like to go get the trophy bullet from inside Doc Mitchells office, its a pointless thing but its something i feel adds a lot of character and story and ive had a idea for a potential mod (as i cant seem to find it anywhere else) im no modder by any means im not even sure i would know where to start but i digress.

my idea is being able to make a bullet necklace out of the one benny shot you with and wear it around my neck as i travel the wasteland, take all the time getting to benny and then i love the thought of my character with the black widow perk making a comment on giving a woman presents of jewelry haha
