The Act Man's video about New Vegas is everything that's wrong with the NV community

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 07:29 AM PDT

Why does every "New Vegas is good" video have to include the following:

    • Buggy, 2-years old footage from the launch of Fallout 76
    • Perpetuate the lie that Bethesda screwed Obsidian over with the "85 Metacritic clause"
    • Introduce Bethesda as the bad guy who stole and shouldn't have the rights to own a beloved series. Everything positive that Obsidian has done in NV is their own accomplishment, everything bad in NV is Bethesda's and their engine's fault.

Fallout 76 has moved on since the disastrous launch, a lot of things have been improved and I'd even call it a decent game...but youtoubers keep using the old footage, perpetuating the lie, that the game is still in a really bad state.

Chris Avellone has in his tweets talked about the contract with Bethesda, and they knew from the beginning, that they have 18 months. They overstretched and somehow that's Bethesda's fault. The "85 Metacritic clause" is something that Bethesda has added, you could call it a way to motivate Obsidian to make it as good as possible. The game was unstable at the start and thus earned an 84 and failed to hit a bonus that was Bethesda's suggestion. They still got paid, even without the bonus. I don't see how that's Bethesda's fault.

The Creation Engine, or Gamebryo, has a lot of positives that some people take for granted. One of the biggest ones is it's moddability. No other engine allows the creation of large mods like "New California", "The Frontier", "Enderal". Just look at the mods that TW3 has on Nexus, they are limited to recolors, simple bug fixes and texture mods. There are no overhauls on the level of Ordinator, there's no modthat changes the game on the same level as Sim Settlements 2 does.

That moddability is what keeps the older Bethesda games (even FO4 is quite old by now) relevant (and NV shares the same Bethesda DNA, because of that engine). The engine also has it's jank...it can be unstable und buggy, but all that can eventually be fixed. It has it's good and but, but to attribute only the bad things in a game to Bethesda and the engine is very deceitful and dishonest.

I don't know if the guy is new to NV and Bethesda games in general, in his video he worded it, as if he was playing NV for the first time (not knowing how to switch ammo for a long time), but he definitely should have done more research, instead of parroting the same old anti-Bethesda drivel, that is creating the gap in the Fallout community.

Would anyone be interested in a text-adventure style fallout 3?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 09:50 PM PDT

I really enjoy zork and adventure (way before my time) and im playing fo3 for the first time in (redacted cause I'm almost old) and i was thinking with a bit (note: a bit= absolute insanity to consider it) of tweaking and a lot (i might die of old age first) of time, a text adventure recreation would actually be really fuckin fun. I feel like with a relatively basic framework the visual aspects would be easily broken down (move 3 miles north. At mile 2.3 you hear a raider yell "i got ya!" Vats shoot leg 3 times) and without all the graphics the rest is translating the code for the 3d world into human readable text.

Am i the only one that thinks its an awesome idea or is this worth looking into

The Get Shot for Real Mod

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 06:31 AM PDT

Yesterday, I posted a fake mod on the Fallout 4 Nexus as an April Fools joke. The mods removed it (for obvious reasons) but thankfully, one of them shows it to me in "moderation state" so I could take screenshots, especially of the comments section (which I found the funniest)

If you get kicked out of a casino for winning too much in NV, is that permanent or how long does it last?

Does the brotherhood of steel become enemies with you if you become a raider?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 08:23 PM PDT

If I become a raider in Nuka world and then betray the raiders and kill them all will the brotherhood kick me out? And do I get to keep danse, Curie, and the rest as companions?

What are the current or official fallout power armor?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 08:13 PM PDT

Ive only played fo4 and i was heavly interested in the idea of a mechanized infantry armor so i wanted to know if there was any power armor other than the raider, T-45, T-51, T-60 and the X-01 power armors that are considered canon within the lore of the fallout universe.

Does anybody know gow to prevent crashes on FO4 for xbox 1?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 06:57 PM PDT

I'm sure this has been answered already but I'm too lazy to search. I've tried disabling mods, going offline, I've tried just about everything I could think of. Does anyone have a solution? My game crashes every 30-45 min.

It's honestly a tragedy that nobody has ported Fallout 1 and 2 onto mobile yet

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 03:39 AM PDT

There's a couple projects to remake Classic Fallout with another engine, but it'd be sweet to just be able to play the originals on my phone when it's slow at work. I realize the UI would be small and awkward for a phone screen, but don't act like we couldn't make it work.

Does fallout 4 run better on the ps4 than Xbox 1?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 03:35 AM PDT

I'm just interested to see people's opinions on performance with both consoles.

I know typically they can run very bad at Times with persistent crashes, bugs and frame rate drops .

Just wondered which console runs it smoother?

Does the ninja perk apply to ranged weapons (part of it at least)? Fallout 3.

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 02:40 AM PDT

The description of the perk is

+15% critical chance with Melee or Unarmed attacks. Sneak Attack Criticals do 25% more damage.

Notice how only the first part refers to melee or unarmed. I wonder whether the second part applies to guns or not? Fallout 3.

    Fallout 4 question

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 05:51 PM PDT

Hi! I'm a first time player and I just downloaded fallout 4 from the ps+ collection. I was just wondering if it's a bug that I have to trigger dialogue by pausing. If so, does anyone know how to fix it? This is getting really annoying.

Topical interview from Chris Avellone himself

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 10:54 AM PDT

    https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/updated-chris-avellone-talks-about-departure-from-obsidian-entertainment

Bethesda Softworks had offered Obsidian Entertainment a bonus if Fallout: New Vegas achieved an 85 Metacritic score. It achieved an 84 score. A user asked whether there was any manipulation of the score on Bethesda's part.

Sunday, May 6, 3:17 AM: "I don't believe they did at all - it was our responsibility to do more to make the game better, but the people making the decisions on game quality kept getting distracted by shiny objects. It was Obsidian's fault, and as Ferg said, Bethesda didn't even have to offer that in the contract at all - it was up to us to manage it to a successful quality completion, and we didn't succeed at that. Good people lost their jobs because of that. I gave a lot of thought as to why, and some of it came out in my Hierarchy presentations - don't let the person who can enact change be distracted. Let them use their powers for good to fix the title, because they have the authority to ensure quality is achieved."

Avellone had been the one to first bring up the Metacritic score episode a few years ago. A user pointed out that there are conflicts between his position then and his position now.

Sunday, May 6, 12:52 PM: "It is widely believed that when that statement was revealed, that it was blaming Bethesda. It wasn't, it was recognizing we as a studio should have done better - and even a little bit better (1%) could have had huge benefits (and we could have kept people we had to let go). My feelings then are the same as my feelings now, and I stand by that. It's an unpopular stance (the anti-underdog stance usually is compared to the underdog needs a little more training montage moments), but I believe it's the correct one. Bethesda was trying to encourage us to do a quality job, they didn't have to, and we missed the mark - but within the realm where it was clear we could have fixed it. I wrote post-mortems as reminders and plans to myself about how we could fix this in the future (clear hierarchy, keep the people who can make the decisions focused on reviewing the content and enacting change and finding bugs vs. adding more features/getting lost in the weeds, etc.).

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 10:05 PM PDT

This is my first playtrough of fo4 and I just did the mission where you got to the Institute for the first time, I'm with the railroad btw. I did everything it told me to do and when I got back and talked to the keeper of the Institute my character said I failed and got kicked out when I didn't so now its all messed up. I tried reloading a save but the only one I can go back to is over 5 hours ago. Its shit like this that makes me not like Bethesda
