FONV NCR Army Organizational Structure in the Mojave Wasteland Posted: 28 Feb 2021 05:11 PM PST I posted this on the New Vegas board and they told me to post it here too. I got bored and decided to see how accurate the New Vegas NCR is compared to current US Army structure. I only took the list of named NCR characters, so all the no name people on the strip and on patrol aren't counted here. They just fill out the ranks. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18-dgznu6wj2RfdnXRb6uL5VOXzvqQrFUkHE0OGNbZpE/edit?usp=sharing I don't know if it was intentional or not, but the game writers came very close to a reasonable facsimile of an Army organizational structure. Along with the constant talk of not being manned high enough, the NCR in the Mojave Wasteland is roughly a bastardized division. It contains one anemic Brigade Combat Team (BCT) commanded by COL Moore, an Infantry Officer. It also contains a Garrison support element commanded by COL Hsu, an Engineer Officer. COL Moore's BCT is spread throughout the wasteland, with main areas of operation at Hoover Dam and McCarran. Her only named battalion commander, MAJ Dhatri, is headquartered out of McCarran. She also has a MAJ Polati (perhaps another battalion commander) at Camp Forlorn Hope. Meanwhile COL Hsu is spread to the four corners of the wasteland with primary areas of operation out of McCarran, Mojave Outpost, the Strip (no named characters but his people would be guarding the embassy), and Camp Golf. I looked at what the characters were doing and what comparable people in the US Army do to determine what their MOS or AOC was. The NCR also employs a number of civilians and contractors similar to the current US Army. Of course the wiki was a huge help in this. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Fallout:_New_Vegas_NCR_characters [link] [comments] |

Are there people living outside the US wastelands? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 07:15 PM PST As far as i know, Tenpenny came from England to seek fortune, the NCR has presence in Baja California (Mexico), and countries such as Mongolia, Canada, and China were to appear in the cancelled Fallout Extreme (and since it's cancelled, it's not canon). I belive there's some settlements in the former Anexed Canada and Alaska (specially Anchorage) [link] [comments] |
Why’s There So Many Super Mutants in Fallout 3 but not Fallout New Vegas? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 10:56 PM PST This might sound like a dumb question to some, but i'm genuinely curious. Like didn't the super mutants originate from the mojave (or somewhere close like California)? You would think there would be more, but there's only about 4 locations where you can find any super mutants/nightkin. Then in the capital wasteland on the other side of the country it's infested with super mutants, you can't go anywhere without getting attacked by them. I might need to just brush up on lore but this all seems backwards to me. [link] [comments] |
Some confusion on the lore of prewar cinema films, home movies, and format of said films. Posted: 28 Feb 2021 10:13 PM PST While researching for a side project, I ended up becoming a little confused. I know that there at at least three types of film format that were used, film strips on metal reels; holotapes (alternatively called a holodisk, holodisc, THT (Tape Holography Technology); and the new (supposedly rare) graphic projectors. Were the movie projectors at indoor and outdoor movie theaters and drive-in's using 16mm or 35mm film, if they weren't already using holotape technology? I'll admit film format history isn't something I'm knowledgeable on. For those that were using holotape technology, including home movie recorders, how did they work? Did they just pop-in an empty/unused holotape into a recorder and it just recorded video and audio, much like digital cameras today? For playing holotapes, was it along the same lines - insert holotape and it started playing the film? Outside of the conversation with the Corsican Brothers in Fallout 2, is there any information on how these graphic projectors worked? The conversation with them is a bit vague. When operational, did the projector just capture anything and send it to the QEWB drive?
The last question I had was on the movies that were being shown on October 23, 2077. Hardly any of the movies featured on the letter boards are the same. Outside of the theory that not all of the same movies were shown through the country, is there any explanation given as to why the movies at various drive-in theaters and indoor cinemas were so inconsistent? The only other idea I have is that given the lack of resources and unstable circumstances, some movies were shown for much longer than others and some entered second/third/etc rounds after having previously ended circulation. Is there a lore explanation for why the Brotherhood vertibirds are different in Fallout 4 from 3? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 11:05 AM PST In Fallout 3 the Brotherhood used the Enclave model ones with no side opening doors, but in the 10 years in between four and three they switched over to newer models, is there an explanation for this? We know that they aren't built post war because we see at least one at vault 111 during the Great War, and they definitely brought them from DC because they interface and can land with the prydwen.. How many Chinese references (spies and commies on American soil) can we find in fallout games Posted: 28 Feb 2021 07:22 AM PST I know about the submarine in fallout 4, and Mama Dolce, and the Chinese spy in point lookout (which in my opinion is a really freaking cool side quest). Are there any more like this? [link] [comments] |
