Is it better (morally) to kill Legate Lanius or to talk him down?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:13 AM PST

I was thinking about this a lot lately.

I generally prefer and enjoy talking him down; the dialogue/writing from both sides is brilliant and talking him down using convincing and logical arguments is incredibly satisfying, more so than killing him.

However, aside from pure satisfaction, is it better morally to kill him? Despite a lot of characters saying it, we have no guarantee that the Legion wouldn't be destroyed. He may very well come back even stronger, with no need to bleed resources from the East, and take over the Dam.

If you do kill him, it's basically the end of the Legion as a whole; however, if you let him live he may come back even stronger and end the war once and for all. What do you guys think?

I never left the spawn town in Fallout New Vegas for years

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:55 AM PST

Yes just like how the title said, I never left the place. Although I actually can't remember what its called now, springtown? Anyway, when I first played it was my brothers game and I was a kid, I was too scared of all the different things and I decided that going to the "scarylands" was not a good idea so I just stayed. It was actually quite fun, I would go and talk to to townsfolk in the day, try and clear out the schoolhouse but chicken out and then by night, I would sneak into the gunshop and steal that pistol, I think it was silenced because for little old u/JetDogGaming that was the most powerful gun ingame. I would then sell it right back to the guy the next day. Once some raiders attacked, broke my leg wasnt fun because I didnt know about stimpacks, I took the guys clothes because I thought they looked cool, walked into the bar and got immediately killed; never did that again.

However, a few years ago, I had just finished fallout 3 and fallout 4 a few months before, I decided that this was it, I was gonna leave and play the story. I took my stolen guns and I left! I got to that army guy and I said that I am a VIP, I am the main character and I have left spawn. Tried to cross the bridge and got blown up about 7 times... tried to sneak round and got shot 30 times. I closed the game and never went back, in fact I dont even have the game anymore as it was my brothers and he has since moved away. Point of the story, spawn is good, spawn is fun, dont leave.

    I'm sorry Bethesda

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:43 PM PST

I recently played through the ncr campaign in fallout the frontier and oh boy. I feel bad for criticising bethesda for the lore they added into fallout, at least they did it with some level of respect. Fallout the frontier is just a flaming garbage fire, so I'm sorry Bethesda.

Anyone else get a laugh out of going to the old frontier trailers?

Its the funniest thing for me, all those people in the comments talking about it like its the be all end all only for it to crash and burn faster than anything else I have ever seen.

If you were an NPC in someone's kill everything run, where would you hide to try and survive?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 04:15 PM PST

Rewatching some Matn runs, started thinking...

Depending on what kind of rules would apply to you - could you hide on a rooftop, or like a dumpster, or is it only locations NPC's can be in-game.

In New Vegas I considered the Tops pool area, because it took me several plays before I even realized it existed. But there's a lot of NPCs there, and it's no guarantee. Probably best would be to try and find a house to break into that everyone passes because there's no one inside and no loot worth grabbing. Or make friends with the super mutants and hide in one of the lodges. Or at the Mojave Outpost maybe just beyond the fence? But you might get nuked there. Or have a grenade launched at you, so risky.

For 3 maybe Canterbury Commons? There's a couple of indoor areas there, one of those might work. Or Rivet City, hiding somewhere close to the broken edge, in one of the planes, so your compass marker wouldn't show up.

I can't think of any spots off the top of my head for 4. :\ With the jetpack even rooftops wouldn't be safe. Lots of umarked locations... but they might be too good for a brief spot of player looting. And you'd probably want to be somewhat close to an established settlement so you have somewhere to sneak like food from to wait things out.

How long do you think you'd make it? :)

Why I (Personally) Think America is a good idea for a character, that was handled very poorly.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:08 PM PST

Spoilers about The Frontier and America, I only blacked out the ones about the characters from the Actual Games.

A note before I begin. I haven't got to play the Frontier, at this point I don't even know if I really want to or not, but i haven't got to get the whole experience. Best i've got is a guy who uploaded his Crusaders campaign, and god bless him for that because the vast majority of people are playing the... interesting NCR campaign, to say the least.

So, on to the actual to conversation. I like brotherhood companions, mainly Veronica and Danse, I mean Cross exists, but she doesn't... do anything, so lets act like she doesn't exist. So when I started hearing about the shitshow that was Fallout: The Frontier, and all of it was centered around the follower for the Crusaders (Brotherhood but imbued with MORMONISM), and she was an Ex-BOS member, i wanted to see what was up. I read that slave line, like everyone else did, and like everyone else who isn't literally insane, I was disgusted by it. But i didn't know the context of the character, like i'd take a guess and say the majority of the people who (like me) haven't played the mod. So I looked into it. And what i found was a genuinely good idea for a follower, and someone who could offer more commentary about the BOS and their ways,And someone who lost everything with the Brotherhood, like Danse, (Not really the Crusaders though, she just thinks they're boring from what i've seen)

If you don't know, America is a girl SOMEWHERE in her teens, that includes 18 and 19, the mod gives a Happy 18th! card on her, but that seems kind of... Sleazy. You find out she was abandoned by her parents when she was a member of the Midwest BOS (The ones from Tactics), and she was kicked out and abandoned by her parents. When you ask her further on this you can start to see her, well, break down. She holds herself together enough to tell you that she has a rare disease that makes it so you can't feel pain, and when the Brotherhood found out she was a mutant she was kicked out and left to die in the dustbowl. Her parents said they were going out to retrieve a satellite, but they just turned around and left her, and after a storm came in she lost them forever. After going west and crossing the dust bowl, she eventually met up with Mollie, who brought her in, almost like another Mother Figure to America, and she joined the crusaders, and thats where you meet her in The Frontier.

Boys thats a lot to take in, wow. So obviously, she suffers from a few problems. The disease she has is actually real, it's exceptionally rare, only around 20 people have it, but it's a disease that's extremely hard to live with. I assume she has the version where she only can't feel pain, some people have it where they can't feel almost anything, they die because they don't know if they're too hot, cold, hungry, thirsty etc. Doesn't seem like 'Murica has those problems, so she only can't feel pain. But that's still hard to live with. You couple that on with losing everything, when she was only 15, her parents, her life, everything. It's a lot to take in. It caused her to have severe problems with depression and anxiety, she doesn't want to be abandoned again, and usually suffers mental breakdowns when she talks about it.

And thats why i think she's a great idea. She shows that the brotherhood is cruel, and even if you grew up with them if they see 1 thing wrong with you, they abandon you to the wind. She's a good mix of Danse, Who gave his entire life to the brotherhood, but when they found out he MIGHT be a synth, they ordered the player to kill him, And Veronica, Whose parents died when she was young and she was taken in by Elijah, a maniac, and slowly watched as he left her and her family refused to listen her trying to help it survive. I think America shows a good mix of the two, IMO, and that's why I think exploring the idea of depression and being scared of loneliness is a good idea for a character, your character player should step in and be that friend she really needs, and help her develop as a person and move on from he past. It would work great in an actually fallout game, and would make for an interesting companion, and in the mod she seems like a really fun person to travel with, but that's my opinion and you can always disagree. She might be the worst character in the mod, who knows, but that's my take.

But this isn't an Obsidian or Bethesda game. It's Fallout: The Frontier

The big problem with America is enslaving her. First off, the whole idea of this was to be a way to criticize players who mindlessly click through speech checks. It didn't work. AT. ALL. Secondly, while the devs say it was not meant to be a sex slave, let's be honest. Do you know how many sex options there are in this damn mod? Of course making a young girl a slave will imply that she will be your sex slave, especially with "Little Slave Girl". People will say "Well you can enslave a child in F03" or "You can enslave Arcade in FNV", well yeah you could, but it's all about the way they (probably Odinsword, but who knows maybe it was ZuThePedo the entire time, I really don't know, but I'm suspicious in Odinsword saying Zu changed it last minute) went about it. I think using an idea like this, a hard Speech check that is evil is a good idea, but when you are dealing with a character with an illness as complex as Depression, it is really NOT a good idea to put it in. But the worst part is how you do it.

You. Break. This. Girl. And then after destroying her life she's been trying so hard to rebuild, you offer her slavery, which of course she takes up, she has nothing else left in life. She thinks everything she's ever done has been a lie

Well thats... disgusting. Why? I get it, make the vulnerable girl who someone made as a waifu be the one you can enslave, but WTF dude. At least with the kid you didn't know her (I think, i've obviously never done it) and sell her to slavers, she isn't yours. And with Arcade, well he's you kind of just say YOU GET TO BE A MEDICAL SLAVE TO THIS CRAZY GUY YOU HATE, HAVE FUN. You don't break him. You just give him away and that's that. I think the problem is mainly how you destroy this poor girl before you make her a slave, and she agrees because she has nothing else left. After reading more into her it's the part that made me even more sick. It's just disgusting. And worse yet, you then make her a Food Fetish Waifu.

    What. The. Fuck. Dude.

This isn't how you handle Depression and Anxiety. I don't suffer from either of these, but i know people that do. It's insulting to write a character with these issues, and then do this to her. DevilsBlight (Guy who made the NCR Storyline) might have been... a unique storywriter. But he knew how to handle AJ, he knew that she was a rape victim and a former Legion sex slave, who saw her entire family die right before her eyes, and he made sure not to put in things like America had. I think that it is best to have these lines removed from America, but god damn do they really hurt the reputation of this mod

It's a shame too, I like the idea of having someone come with you in your adventure who tries to be cheery and happy to make both of you feel happy, even if deep down she's in a lot of pain (Mentally, She literally can't feel pain). And i liked the voice acting for her too, it wasn't perfect, but it made her a lot more fun.

If anyone actually reads my essay, what do you think about America? Again, i haven't played the mod, it was gone by the time i heard about it. I Could be Completely wrong! Let me know in the comments. Thanks!

    Will i Enjoy Fallout 76?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 01:27 AM PST

I really like Fallout 4, Just got the DLCs for it. I was thinking about Fallout 76 but i don't know. Players' reviews weren't really great (Critic's reviews aren't reliable) but I believe the game was enhanced significantly over the years. However, there're still some bugs out there.

I enjoy Building settlements in Fallout 4. Is that option available in Fallout 76? What about the camp? Can i edit it like a settlement?

Since it's an Online game, I've more questions.

1.Does it have an actual story?

    1. If yes, Can the story be played with friends? (Like For Honor, A Way Out, Dead Island)

    2. How do we make money and what's the use of it?

    3. Does the premium currency (bought with real money) give any advantage or is it just for cosmetics? Pay to win

    4. Can i somehow earn the Premium currency from in-game activities? (completing missions/challenges/events)

    5. Are there any Jobs/Roles like in Red Dead Online? (Bounty/Treasure Hunter, Trader, etc...)

    6. Are there legendary weapons/armors and power armors in the game?

    Thanks in advance.

Is fallout 2 easy to get into?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:14 AM PST

Hi! I have played all elder scrolls games (except battlespire and redguard) and since I had very fun time with them I tried FO games. So far I only played 3 and NV and I like Vegas better. I preffer casinos and desert to dull DC streets. I am not saying I hate FO3 no, it was fun in it's own way but I liked NV way more. Since my craptop cannot run newer games I decided to check older ones. From what I read, a lot of people say Fallout 2 is easily best game in the franchise. But game looks a bit dated from what I've seen. I have no problems with graphics but some of the mechanics look not casual-friendly. If you tried game after playing new releases how hard/easy it was for you? Thanks in advance!

    Fallout Frontier NCR Campaign Rewrite

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:45 PM PST

Alright, I'm bored out of my mind, and after having played Fallout Frontier, been kind of a bit burnt out on the franchise overall. So, thought I'd do something that could flex my creative muscles: attempt to rewrite the NCR campaign of Frontier.

Not actually planning on implementing this, I have literally zero experience modding New Vegas (I'm more of a Fire Emblem hacker if anything), but thought it'd be fun to try to fuck around, maybe release it to the public and see what people thought, maybe get some help making it a rewrite mod a la NVB III Marko rewrite. Setting some personal rules - can't add any more set pieces (not like I need to, there's plenty already) and I need to work within the confines of what Frontier has established as possible in it's world/assets already in the mod.

As much as I'm sure a lot of people like to shit on the Frontier, I think it has a foundation that just needed to be improved on, and with the NCR campaign only having the one writer, lack of criticism is probably what caused it. There's no real theme, beyond a vague "People are treated like shit by their commanding officers" sort of deal with President Kimball/General Oliver, Doctor Voss to the Enclave, and *some* questions if Blackthorne is doing what's right by his men.

My general idea is that as you get to the Frontier, hopefully Level 35-ish like in The North Road or NVB 3 or Lonesome Road to warrant your status as a legend, you're given a bit of leeway by your higher ups. Your first task is *not* to mine the bridge, but to show your worth to the NCR Exiles, whom you have a separate reputation with as established by loading screen tips and there actually being a separate reputation. Your CO who your rode on the truck with directs you to Goose Hollow or the Wasted Angel to do some smaller quests that get you acclimated to the Frontier.

Some of the existing quests in the game already link you to various other settlements, such as the quests from Irvington having you travel the wastes, Salt Town's main quest connects you to the Trochili (I know, I know, probably replace them with a Scav settlement or something), the quests in that Scav city with the underground metro whose name eludes me since this is a 35+ hour campaign.

You build up your reputation to the point of being Idolized (a la the Boomers) before you gain enough reputation to meet Blackthorne face to face, who says he'll prepare a job that utilizes your skill kit in fighting the Legion, but Rancor (just Rancor, not Tiberius) has a job for you to do in the mean time. Queue the bridge scene. You get ambushed, tortured by Legate Valerius, and he gives you a speech NOT about how your choices matter and how the man suffering in front of you is your fault, but about how your choices DON'T matter - you were sent to fight and die by Blackthorne for no good reason. One person means nothing in the face of war. Not only would this tie into the loose theme the NCR questline had, but it also plays into the linearity that the campaign has.

That's about as far as I got, don't want to make this post gauging interest super long, but was wondering, what do y'all think? Would anyone like to help me with this? Any critique of what I've gotten so far while we're at it? I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts, maybe this might grow into something bigger, maybe this'll just be me fucking around for a week and seeing what I can come up with.

Why is fire so weak in 4?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 01:52 AM PST

I was replaying 3 earlier and I remembered how one of the scariest things was having no fire resistance and a Hellfire trooper popping up directly in front of me. Those flamers would do work on my poor health pool.

NV was much the same, the fire ants, fire geckos, basically anything that uses fire are difficult to deal with without fire resistance.

Why is 4 different? Incendiary legendary weapons are terrible and the flamer is bad too. Is it because damage is calculated differently or something?

Word Spreads Quick Around These Parts (Fallout New Vegas)

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:44 PM PST

Apparently the Frontier has been pulled off Steam

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:12 AM PST

It no longer shows up in search results and links to the page redirect to the main store page. Only thing that still seems to exist is the forum. Has there been any announcement by the devs? I haven't been able to find anything since they nuked their Discord server.

Edit: They gave an update finally. Apparently after some deliberation they've decided to at least try to fix the worst of the mod by removing the questionable content, removing stuff at the request of VA's and other artists, and making the opening more independent for the player. They said the VA's will be revoiced and icons remade. Which is good, because I want to experience this whole thing even if it is next level trash. They also said they hid the Steam page but are still working on releasing it.

Why does paladin danse have xo-1 power armor??

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:09 PM PST

It's the first time I visited danse after the quest where you find him out of his paladin paint t60 suit, and he was in no paint xo1 without a helmet on him or in his inventory? I think it's because I'm level 40, and it loaded him in with leveled power armor since he didn't have one or something? Why he can find one before me makes me sad lmao

Best factions to end NV with?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:08 PM PST

Personally speaking I always choose the house ending. It allows for the legion to be pushed East; force the west to focus its efforts on securing its already pre existing boarders and straightening its supply lines, and the surrounding Mojave can do relatively well being largely independent with NV being the center attraction, and also allows mankind a chance to actually progress creating new technology and so fourth. However what do you think is best and why NCR LEGION HOUSE INDEPENDENT (which is literally house ending but with courier 6 cosplaying as Mr. house)

In keeping with the idea that 200 years after the bombs fell, people still haven't learned how to use bricks to build homes, people also haven't learned how to sew properly. But they do some seriously sweet embroidery.

There's also the idea that people would use flags from the Old World as basis for their new ones. Bunker Hill uses flags of the Red Sox, Hangman's Alley flies the trefoil of the Boston Celtics, Sunshine Tidings with a flag from the National Park Service, etc etc etc.

Please, if you have suggestions, share them with me, I need inspiration ;)

The Boomers' Actions are Dumb and so are the Faction Heads That Want Them

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:13 PM PST

At the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, if you got the Boomers' on your side, they bomb the opposing army. This seems fine and all, except that they bomb the dam. The thing that your fighting for.

This is even worse for the NCR and Legion who actually want the dam, and want you to get the Boomers' help. And what also makes the NCR dumb for this is if you do the Legion's side, the dam has AA guns yet doesn't use it on the bomber.
