    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Stuff like this makes me so satisfied killing the Fiends in Vault 3 in gory and painful ways. Payback for all the innocent vault dwellers including kids they brutally massacred.

Asked Neil, what are your thoughts on New Vegas 2?

    Everywhere I go (since Monday)...

New Vegas needs to be redeemed, not redone.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:30 AM PDT

I completely understand and share the eternal frustration of New Vegas' status as an incomplete masterpiece. However after ten years of anticipation I'm afraid that New Vegas 1.5 would be an inevitable let-down due to sky high expectations and Obsidian acting out of a sense of obligation which may understandably stifle creativity. I think we need a new story set in the same 'micro-universe' which remains in keeping with the themes and spirit of the original New Vegas.

    WARNING: Glorified fan-fiction ahead

My basic idea would be that the NCR hold on to Hoover Dam and ultimately win out against the Legion, but that decades later authoritarian elements emerge from within the NCR which threaten to tear it apart just as Ceasar predicted all those years ago. I think this an appropriately bittersweet ending for the NCR, and gives Ceasar the credit he deserves as a prescient political analyst if not actually a good leader.

Crucially (and what the rest of this post will be about) is that this would give Obsidian another chance to properly execute philosophical debate which I am convinced is what they originally intended with New Vegas, but had to massively truncate due to development constraints. Namely, how the new reality of a post-apocalyptic world with raiders and rabid ghouls legitimately warrants another look at the freedom vs. security debate.

There are a few things in NV which allude to this. The main ones I can think of are Cass' and Raul's comments about the safety of Legion roads, Ceasar being surprisingly reasonable and giving the best possible justification for the Legion I could imagine (which still falls well short imo) and Ulysses' dialogue where he frames 'The Bear and The Bull' almost as two sides of the same coin.

I hated how I couldn't take any of this seriously when the Legion rolls in to town and commits literal Nazi level atrocities. Despite being phenomenally written, Ceasar's words rang completely hollow to me because of this. What I hated even more is how much I wanted to be able to buy into this unbelievably epic premise of two dialectically opposed and equally flawed philosophies coming to blows in post-war America. The fact that I couldn't is easily the thing which frustrates me the most about New Vegas. The problem is that I don't think this could be rectified in a remake without massively retconning the Legion beyond recognition, adding more Legion settlements just isn't going to cut it.

What I want is an entirely new faction which skews more 'asshole reactionary' than 'literal genocidal slavers'. I want there to be a defensible justification for their actions (which I would likely still disagree with). Maybe its a severe brand of frontier justice without due process which acts as an effective deterrent, maybe they only enslave raiders who have tried to kill them and treat them more as indentured servants, maybe their society is super patriarchal but the 'best' women can still rise to the top if they prove themselves. I won't speculate any further because god knows I'm no writer, but I think you get my gist.

I think the best way to honour the legacy of New Vegas is to continue the story rather than retell it, and to give us a fully realized version of the ambiguous moral and philosophical conflict that Obsidian originally intended.

Anyway this was kind of long and rambly and mostly just an opportunity for me to nerdily speculate about something I've wanted for literally a decade. Thanks for reading to the end.

After 6 years and countless playthroughs I just found out that you can't sell stolen items back to their respective vendor.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:37 AM PDT

I mean, it makes sense. I just never expect it to actually be implemented in a game (or am I just an idiot and every Bethesda game is like this.)

I never played such an evil character (except for a kill-on-site on a III playthrough) but it's a sniper build and I need the Anti-Material Rifle.

Finally got all achievements on Xbox 360! At about 91 hours, this save has every quest and location completed, and all unique weapons and armor collected. The first achievement was in 2013, when I was 14. Now the final, in 2020, as a 21 year old. Until next time, New Vegas. When I can begin again.

FNV II would only work based on the faction that won FNV.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:42 AM PDT

Imagine a Fallout New Vegas where you started from a post Hoover Dam II group.

You're NCR trying to hold on to all the gains.

    You're Legion scrambling to rebuild.

You're a gang member in some low end tribal gang looking to gain respect.

    That's where it all starts!

Not all blood splatter textures showing on walls

    Has anyone experienced this bug?
It's like some of the textures are gone, some are OK tho.

I thought Enhanced Blood Textures would fix this, but I was wrong.
These screenshots were taken in Ranger Station Charlies, but the same happens in other locations.

Dean Domino had it coming. [SPOILERS]

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:02 PM PDT

Let me start this off by saying I'm the guy who goes for peaceful ends, who try to keep everybody alive (ie: I recruited logain in DAO, even though I disagree with most of his actions). But not Dean.

    But. Not. Dean.

Dean is literally responsible for almost every bad thing to occur in Dead Money.

Decaying infrastructure? Who skimmed off the budget and created a cardboard town, so much so Sinclair had to make a deal with the devil with big M.T. to help fund it? Yes the cloud is the agent of corruption, but who installed a knowingly bad vent system, going so far as to ignore a system so profoundly screwed up his own henchman voiced concerns about it? Dean.

Guess who blackmailed a woman who to seduce his best friend Sinclair, a woman who fell in love with that friend and wanted to get out but was threatened to expose her to that man, a woman addicted to med-ex because of her excruciatingly painful terminal disease (TBF, no one knew that yet)? Dean.

Who shoved Christine is a half-functioning auto-doc, ripped out her vocal cord, and changed her voice to suit his plans. Who once inside the casino, couldn't care less about her welfare? Dean.

Who Lies, back-stabs, sets up his best friend, who "keeps getting dragged through the dirt", for the fall,, destroys Vera and Sinclair's relationship when it threatens to actually become true love (resulting in a tragic death for the both of them)? Dean.

Not Greed (not the MAIN reason, anyway). I can understand that.

Not out of anger. Sinclair had been nothing but kind to him.

Not of fear. Sinclair was the opposite of a threat.

Dean did it out of sheer, repugnant, un-mitigated malice. He did it to quote "Bring him down a few pegs, bring him down to my level." At least Elijah has a sympathetic, if insane and homicidal, reasoning for his obsession!

I could have spared him even then, but for one fact. After the long centuries, all this time to think and walk through the Hell he is mainly responsible for, is he even sorry, for ANYTHING hes done?

Not one Iota of shame even.

I again state I am a player who loves finding peaceful solutions , of forgiving characters. I listened to his speech, his explanation for it all, and without a single reservation pulled out my police pistol and fired all 6 rounds into his chest. (I then promptly booked it for the exit).

Just finished yet another run of dead money, but boy does Dean get to me every time.

A FNV sequel would be cool, but first I'd like to see an updated FNV with all cut content restored.

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:51 PM PDT

There's loads of small factions, locations, and more that were cut due to time that I'd really like to see properly restored. The chance to have a proper legion campaign compared to the NCR would be incredibly to finally play out. Let's get that before we get any kind of FNV sequel.

If New Vegas 2 does come out what ending should be cannon?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 08:06 AM PDT

What ending of the first game should be cannon? I think having a New Vegas two without the NCR or Legion is pretty risky and the second battle of Hoover dam is integral to those factions. I think that the game should start with you at the start of the second battle you could choose to be an NCR grunt an engineer, a Legion Recruit or maybe a Fiend/Kahn that was locked in a cell that had to escape. What are your ideas?

Any way to reset “Don’t Tread on the Bear”?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:49 AM PDT

Don't know if anyone can help me with this, but this subreddit is kind of my last hope if I want to avoid going back to a save 40 hours ago.

I've been wanting to side with the NCR since fairly early in the game, and it seems that, like a complete idiot, at one point or another I reported to Mr. House that both the Boomers and the Omertas had been dealt with, ignorant of the fact that in doing so I had failed both Don't Tread on the Bear and For the Republic. Now, 40 hours later I have finally realized what I've done, and my only hope to get the NCR's ending is to go to my last save before I failed the quest, which is so, so long ago. I know it isn't that big of a deal but I know that what ending you pick changes the fates of different characters/companions, and I've been trying to get the best possible ending for the last 110 hours, so it's important to me.

In the past two days I have tried every console command to continue For the Republic in the book but nothing is working. Only today did I look in my quest list and realize that Don't Tread on the Bear had been failed a long time ago. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, please let me know, I would be very grateful. I don't want a bad ending but I also don't want to lose everything I've done in the last 40 hours. Thanks.
