"SoOn EnOuGh We'Ll HaVe Da WhOlE cOmMoHwEaF bEhInD uS"

No, Preston. Things never get much better as a whole, no matter how hard I work. This place is still a shitshow. There's still like 20 Minutemen. You're still unbearable. There's still Raiders and Super Mutants everywhere. Todd never actually put in the option to gradually re-civilise the entire region. My life is a lie. I'm going to slaughter you and everyone in this godforsaken castle now.

Why don't people move into abandoned Vaults?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 02:58 PM PDT

Like, I know the Triggermen move into the unfinished Vault in Fallout 4, but in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, you don't really see people moving into the abandoned Vaults? I mean, hell, Vault 11 is a stone's throw away from the 188 Trading Post.

Even if they aren't fully functional anymore, an old Vault still ought to be more defend-able than shacks on an overpass or in the open surrounded by shanty town walls.

    Just how intelligent are Deathclaws?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 08:53 PM PDT

Replaying fallout 4 I went through the museum of witchcraft (which the first time I went there I damn near shit my pants). upon listening to the holotapes the gunners said things like "It tracked us here" and they are seemingly picked off one by one. Once I killed the deathclaw in the church I went to drop off the egg. You have 2 choices kill the deathclaw or return the egg when you get to the mound. If these creatures are so built to kill and of low brain capacity It would have just killed you in order to get the egg. It showed restraint and understanding of the player. Traits that should not be shown in a wild animal when young are involved. It got me thinking and I realized other things that would require some semblance of a higher level of thinking. Blinding with the dust attack is somewhat of an Iffy here whether it is higher thinking BUT the serpentine patterns It uses to close the distance between itself and its prey is very tactful. If I had to place it I would put them on a level of the chimpanzeesVelociraptors in Jurassic Park?

Tell me what you think maybe I am reading too much into it.

u/Anlashok2016 thank you for suggesting velociraptors

Fallout 4 and the Never-Ending Quest for Fusion Cores

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 12:24 AM PDT

So apparently, in previous installments of Fallout, a fusion core would last you the whole game, if I'm told correctly. Why do they burn out in a half hour of play time in a suit of Power Armor in Fallout 4? Is it just an added challenge, or is there a point to it? Are they even really mentioned beyond the first encounter with Power Armor in Concord? Do NPCs talk about how scarce they are? When you steal one from a generator, why do the lights and terminals stay on in a building? Literally only the generator itself winds down, except of course, the fusion generators you build yourself. I imagine if you remove a core from it, your settlement lights go out. And how long does a fusion core last in one of those? Forever? An hour? Am I missing something?

What do you think happens after the hard time limit in Fallout 2?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 05:04 PM PDT

In Fallout 2, there's a game limit of 13 in game years due to hardware limitations.

After this is hit a single screen saying "The End" appears, what do you think happens to the Chosen One, their village and the world after this?

    Big Iron in G Major

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 11:48 PM PDT

Just finished Dead Money for the second time. Some thoughts.

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 04:34 PM PDT

Most of what I've read from fellow redditors about DM is polarized. People tend to love or hate this DLC. It's been awhile since I've looked but I seem to recall more people hating it than loving it. This stands out to me because upon completing it the first time I remember thinking that Dead Money was 1. Worth the time. And 2. The most thematically sound story in modern Fallout gaming. I stand by this second point. Dead Money does a great job of showing just how hard it is to let go of something once we've found it. All the characters suffer from an inability to move forward with their lives beyond some defined point. Dog/God cannot reconcile their shared identity. Elijah and Dean are obsessed with the Sierra Madre vault contents. Christine seeks revenge. Sinclair built an entire city for Vera. The characters are each slavishly devoted to something that ends up trapping them in a hellish lost city. The wonders promised to them instead consuming their souls. This is awesome storytelling and the environment of the Villa (and its surrounding locales) elevates the story by showing how treacherous obsession can become.

That said, the game play is miserable. My first play through I appreciated how "different" DM felt. It struck me as Fallout meets survival horror. I would not be able to blast through my problems, or run amok. I would need to be exacting and careful with every step. Despite being difficult, I looked forward to returning to the Sierra Madre a second time.

Boy has my opinion ever changed. For me, the joy of Fallout derives mostly from exploration. Turning over every stupid burnt prewar book in search of a magazine or skill book is what I pick up the game for. Combat and story are largely secondary though I will concede that NV and particularly the DLC is the one game that has a story truly worth coming back to. While I concede that extensive exploration is still possible in DM, the simple fact of the matter is that the environment is designed to work against that and as a result it is at odds with the very reason that I (and I believe many others) play this game. The environment isn't insurmountable either, but the sheer number of stupid radio or hologram based deaths I had this play through was so frustrating that I had to share my experience. Over the course of my DM run, I died 0 times to combatants. I died something like 30 times to radios I couldn't find or Dog seeing me before I could close the gas valve, or that insufferable Vera hologram chasing me down like a Scooby Doo villain from room to room. Every single time felt cheap. I didn't get the sense I was losing because the game was offering some sort of worthy challenge. I felt like a kid having to pump quarters into an arcade game of old.

I know this is an 8 year old game that I'm whining about. I'm certain almost no one gives a hoot. Nonetheless, I learned something from Dead Money. Sometimes you just have to let go. I won't be playing this one again.

Does New Vegas seem really dry to anyone else?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 06:59 PM PDT

I loved this game when it first came out. But now, it just seems so barren to me. The wasteland just doesn't seem as dangerous or random as in previous titles. Caesar's legion seems really silly and lacking in quests compared to the NCR. Once you've played through quests like Come Fly With Me or There Stands the Grass, there's nothing really to playing them again. The dialogue and story are still interesting to hear. I don't know, it just seems like there isn't as much to do in NV as I thought there was.

Are there any good fanfics about how the commonwealth would look if they were united under one democratic government like the NCR? Possibly with like fleshed out maps and armies etc.

Why was the railroad the least popular faction in FO4?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 02:54 AM PDT

    So guys, bobbleheads?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 02:52 PM PDT

I was sitting in my car today, and a thought occurred to me; are bobbleheads canon? Of course there are the immediate oddities like the cap on the barter bh, or the fact that they increase your skills, which is weird.. like, that's not realistic.. and the fact that in 76 they are consumed upon use, not that that means it is literally consumed, but rather that is is stripped of it's usefulness, or power. Which also begs the question of 'is it an unnatural "power" that they have?' or is it more like how you learn from magazines in-game, like the inscriptions on the bh's teach you something? So, in short, why/are they canon, and how do we know for sure? I'm sure I've overlooked something here, but I am unsure whether we know for sure.

I prioritized maxing out my charisma so that I can be able to sway anyone. Will I be able to convince someone even if the option is red?

What are the pros and cons of different Fallout games?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 10:09 AM PDT

I play Fallout 2 for the first time and I love it.

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 10:02 AM PDT

So I had Fallout 2 in my library for loooong time and I tried it many times but always stopped playing during Temple of Trials. It was just so slow and boring to be honest. Recently I gave it another shot and I decided to stick with it and be patient. Suddenly I realized that I play for 5 hours nonstop and I am genuinely hooked. So far, I put about 15 hours into it. I usually play on PS4, but right now, Red Dead Redemption is in the shadow of 21 years old game. Do any of you have similar experience? That you recently played early Fallout games for the first time and finished them? Whats your take on those games in perspective of modern gaming? I am curious. Thank you.

What cars would be similar to the ones in the fallout universe?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2019 08:17 PM PDT

Let's say someone wanted to do a cosplay and pose next to the old world cars while in a vault jump suit, would it be right to be next to let's say a vintage Cadillac? Or what that in the sense break immersion?
