Why are the people of Sanctuary such dicks? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:58 PM PDT I rescue these people from raiders and a deathclaw out of the kindness of my heart, and as much as I try to tell Preston to piss off, he keeps telling me I should listen to him and his crazy jet addict friend. Then when they all go to to Sanctuary because of some crazy old bats "vision", they expect me to do literally everything for them. "Build us beds!" "Give us water!" "Plant us some food!" Then when I tell them I have more important things to do than babysit total strangers, like find my son after 200 years, they act like I'm the asshole. Rant over EDIT: Yes, I know it's a tutorial. Doesn't mean everyone has to be a dick about it though. [link] [comments] |
Is Raul supposed to be my chaperon in Sierra Madre? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:33 PM PDT So I just started the Dead Money DLC and I wake up outside the casino stripped of everything I have. I get greeted by Schizo Elijah who goes on a rant about how I must help him break into the casino or he will give me a major headache. After I'm done I turn around and who's fucking there but my good old sarcastic Raul in his radiation suit. He does not have a collar, however, so I assume that Elijah wanted me to feel safe in his home so he let me bring a chaperon. Is Elijah this nice to everyone? [link] [comments] |
Nothing about the Gunners makes sense Posted: 30 Jun 2021 07:15 PM PDT First Off, why are the immediately hostile? If they were mercenaries ( I'll touch on this later) wouldn't it be bad for business to shoot anyone on sight? It makes sense that they might be hired to raid a settlement and you have to fend them off, but why can't I walk on up to one of their headquarters and explain that I'm in need of their services? I feel that openly shooting anyone on sight is a good way to make a lot of enemies in a short time. Second, how the hell do they eat? The big cities import and grow their own food, smaller settlements obviously grow their own food, and raiders regularly sack settlements as well as sit on a large stockpile of pre-war food, but how do they eat? This goes further. Where do they get all the ammo for their fancy laser weapons, and even their regular ballistic ones? They are the size of an army, and yet they just scavage for everything? At least with the Brotherhood and Institute it's implied that they can produce their own weapons and armor, but they are both bastions of pre-war tech. Speaking of armor, why do they have it and not regular bands of raiders? I get that the raiders are supposed to be hardcore and everything, but pick an example irl of a group of warriors continuing to use garbage equipment in real combat where they didn't pick up whatever their enemy just dropped. Nextly, who bankrolls the Gunners? Assuming they aren't just raiders, who the hell is supplying them? If diamond city or bunker hill are the source of funds, why do both of them have such shit security? If old man Stockton had the entirety of the Gunners on his size, the institute would be gone in matter of days, just look at what the minutemen can accomplish with a fraction of the power of the Gunners. Speaking of the Minutemen, why didn't the Gunners just replace them? If someone with the minutemen let Quincy fall, why didn't the Gunners simply just rebuild the government, it would be less work overall for them, they would have a much more secure food supply, more bases of operation withing the commonwealth, and could simply muscle out the super mutants, gouls and raiders for complete control of the commonwealth. The Gunners have so many advantages over both raiders and the minutemen, it's stupid that they didn't take over. Even after retaking the castle, it's in such a terrible position to hold onto the commonwealth I'm surprised it still has some strategic value to Preston. Sure, it's a son of a b*tch to actually storm and hold from the outside, but it's primary to defend Boston from a naval attack, hence why it would be stupid easy just to set up a blockade around the peninsula and starve out the defenders. The Gunners have several well established fortresses, and are held together super well through their command base at the GNR station. Even if it was inoperable for all of fallout 4, it would be hard for them to recruit a team of mechanics to fix it. Hell, miles or whatever his name was on diamond City radio was able to reach the entirety of the commonwealth from a simple radio in a metal shack in the middle of the city, imagine the kind of reach the Gunners could have with that massive radio tower. With a strong communication network, rigid yet flexible heirarchy/chain of command that ensures a decent sense of loyalty in most, and relatively advanced weaponry and the manpower to back it up, as well as some mysterious force working in the shadows, pulling the strings, it's easy to see that they would be the most effective force at holding the commonwealth. SO WHY ARENT THEY!?!?!??!! [link] [comments] |
Can anyone recommend a lore channel besides Oxhorn? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:43 PM PDT The kind of videos I'm looking for specifically are videos that cover the entire detailed history of one faction. For example I'm currently looking into the Khans since I discovered that their roots are in fallout 1 while watching Oxhorn play through fallout 1. I read through the wiki for them but a video will be helpful for me to connect the lore to in game events and more importantly remember information. I want a different channel because Oxhorn honestly bores me in some of his videos, especially him going over the first game. You may have seen me make posts before about putting together some possible alternate timelines to the games based on decisions or how major battles may turn out differently. This is part of my research for that [link] [comments] |

I like Father. I don't feel guilty siding with the institute. Posted: 30 Jun 2021 09:44 PM PDT When Sean is on his deathbed, I'm reminded of the beginning of the story while he is in the crib. As I went through the game the first few times, I sort of instinctively knew this man "father" was not really in charge of his destiny, and his entire reality was forced upon him. He was a victim like the sole survivor. So despite his twisted ideals, I didn't really have a problem just sort of fulfilling missions for him to see where things went. If you compare this to the missions you do above ground before seeing father, in most cases, it all ends up being silly anyways, as pretty much the entire game is a matter of slippery and inconsistent situational ethics no matter how you spin it (like the other below-ground-institutionalized-madness at Parson's assylum where you must choose which one of two psychopaths gets to keep living). I think the institute is rewarding this way: 1: Father and son (or Father and Father? :D) finally get to bond. Sean passes away happy, and the sole survivor got to reunite with this child. Plus he gets his own robot army and clean bathroom. 2: In theory, since your in charge of the institute anyways, at the end, you can reform them and use their power for good (and thus restoring toilet paper to the commonwealth), though this is not implemented in the game. Survival on F4 is amazing and changed the game for me Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:46 AM PDT I honestly can't go back to playing anything other than survival, it feels like cheating. Just fast travel and instant saving alone ruin a lot of the pressure and excitement of playing. I'm about 75 hours into my survival playthrough and can't believe people do it any other way. What’s your biggest criticism of F4 just one thing u hate the most about it Posted: 30 Jun 2021 11:59 PM PDT Mine is the voiced protagonist it makes it impossible to make anything other than a good character and it is also the reason for the limiting dialogue choice too [link] [comments] |
I think the BoS should die (warning: very long) Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:22 PM PDT I want to start this off by stating that I actually really like the Brotherhood. On my first play through in Fallout 3, Lyons' BoS as well as the Outcasts were easily my favorite thing about the game. Not only did they look and act cool, but they had a goal that seemed admirable to me for the most part. But nowadays, my love for the BoS has started to dwindle. So much so that I don't think I'd wanna see the BoS pop up again at least for a game or two. I think that they are now more than ever just a bunch of raiders with fancy toys and a superiority complex, and are oblivious to how ridiculous their mission is now. Here's why: In the early Fallout games, the Brotherhood's existence made sense. It hadn't been too long since they had started their mission, and the mission itself still made sense. There was a feeling of "we can still fix the world before it's too late". But now, over 200 years later, the wasteland has shown that it has no plans on returning to the exact America that came before. Mutants, ghouls, and synths alike have all showcased numerous times that they can have every bit of humanity that a normal person can (sometimes even more than most humans). The mission failed long ago. It's a new world with a different society. There isn't really a justifiable reason to try and "purge the wasteland" anymore. And as far as the tech recovery goes? I mean just look around. Energy weapons are in use by crazed drug addicts from Vegas, the Super mutants on the east coast are armed to the teeth with laser rifles, while the Gunners boast an arsenal of plasma weapons that would make even the Enclave jealous. Speaking of the Enclave, they are basically a more effective version of what the BoS strives to be. Who are the BoS keeping this stuff from? The victims of each of these various groups? The BoS is literally keeping innocents from being able to defend themselves, while completely failing to prevent the enemies from having them. I'm not so sure what Roger Maxson would've done had he known that even 200 after he created the Brotherhood that his descendants would just be fighting the same (if not a tougher) battle that he was, but I doubt he would've said "well let's try anyway". I think the BoS should've died along with Sarah Lyons. It would've been a story about a group that tried to prevent humanity from harming itself by being elitist and isolationist, only to realize much later that the best thing for the wasteland is to help innocents who have less than they do. To share the wealth, education and tech they have with the people of the wastes, not go to war with them. In conclusion, I think the BoS should be disbanded in the next Fallout game, or even show it happen canonically in said game. If you read this far like a madman thank you, and I'm anxious to hear the opinions of others on this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jul 2021 06:32 AM PDT For me, I prefer the one we have now since the OG OG Fallout which is Wastelanders is still alive and didn't switch genres, like Fallout did, (from the gameplay I've seen of it) but isn't, like, as popular as Bethesda Fallout [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2021 07:22 PM PDT I mean it's Boston, a city on the coast. You can explore a large part of the very present, albeit empty ocean in Fallout 4. No Ghoul Whale to fight? No "Use the Prydwen to bomb the ocean and kill it" mission? So sad. Oh, what could have been… [link] [comments] |
How many caps are within the city of New Vegas? Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:17 AM PDT The game makes it clear that New Vegas is obviously a highly concentrated center of wealth. Extremely rich guest, fully functioning casinos, etc. However, as far as I am aware the game never states how much money the city in total, individual casinos, or Mr. House himself poses. Mr.House If anyone has any information that could help me calculate these numbers, or has calculated them themselves it would be greatly appreciated if you could drop a comment. [link] [comments] |
Realistically, when do you think Fallout 5 will come out? Posted: 01 Jul 2021 06:27 AM PDT Maybe in the 2030s? Because that'd be insane since it'd be 15 years after from Fallout 4 But not THAT insane considering the gap between Fallout 2 and 3 was 10 years But then again, I don't think the Fallout IP is gonna switch companies again and some other company is gonna make Fallout 5 [link] [comments] |
Which game would you recommend Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:10 PM PDT I recently got Fallout 3, and I love it. It's definitely one of my favorite games and I haven't even finished it! I am looking forward to playing other fallout games. What one would you recommend I get first, New Vegas or Fo4. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:18 PM PDT Fallout 76 takes place only nine years after the collapse of Vault 11, and the only survivor of the vault is probably still alive, trying to give people a lesson on what happened in his sacrificial fallout shelter. [link] [comments] |
My communist playthrough of Fallout 4 Posted: 30 Jun 2021 07:43 PM PDT After reading this post from earlier today, I was inspired to share the story of how I took on the backstory of Nora and put my own imaginative twist on it. I'll start with some questions so many of us have asked when we're playing as her. Why can a pre-war attorney pilot power armour, craft weapons and armour, lockpick and hack like a pro, and use such an amazing assortment of weapons? My simple solution was to play her as a communist spy of course! You are no American, you are a great weapon from your communist state of choice. Your marriage to an American soldier was simply one step in the great plan to secure yourself as a citizen of trust. Why care about Shaun? What once was simply a means of cementing a place in your family and earning trust, it just so happens that having a child tied well with your particular mission. Your mission? Well, the particular details are up to you! Were you hoping to use stolen nuclear codes in order to cause the Americans to fire upon their own country? Were you looking to steal the blueprints of the great Liberty Prime? Were you looking to hack into the American communications network and spy on them for your own homelands gain? So what does that have to do with Shaun? Well of course you had something implanted into his body not long after his birth! Perhaps it carries those launch codes. Or the instructions for the most deadly bio weapon the world had yet to see. In any case whether you care about Shaun as your son or not, it's what inside him that you can use. After 200 years in the cold though, your state is long gone and dreams seemingly destroyed, but what remains is in fact the perfect foundations to build your communist utopia in the ruins of the dreadful America! Perhaps it will turn out too that whatever you once stored in Shaun will be the ultimate weapon to assure your dominance. (Yes, I do realise that this story is full of holes and probably has a lot of missed potential. This is just one fun and maybe plausible headcanon to play around with. You're quite welcome to come up with your own details which you like better!) The Gameplan Your new goal is simple, build your own communist state. Your build as a spy will naturally be oriented towards charisma, intelligence, and stealth. Earn and use the trust of others to stay ahead and achieve your own ends. Those who would oppose you or aren't a part of your factions should be eliminated efficiently and discreetly. My preferred style is silenced semi-auto ballistic weapons. It's just as viable though to go for quiet assassinations with discreet melee weapons, or wish to leave behind no traces of your fallen foes but ashes in the wind with energy weapons. Explosives aren't an unwelcome tool either for a skilled saboteur. When being offered caps for work, I prefer to not press for more even with high charisma. To seek wealth for wealths sake is against the code of this communist. However, it's understandable that a developing state needs assets which come at a cost in caps. Soon enough the day shall come in any case where all material is properly overseen and distributed to the deserving workers with your guidance. As many settlements as possible should be recruited into your fold. Materials are shared easily between settlements with the Local Leader perk to be best utilized by the state in any place they are needed. While they might not come with nuclear armaments, a concentrated artillery barrage can pack quite a bunch. Factions The Minutemen For the majority of the early game, the Minutemen are your closest friends and allies. A collectivist militia group which naturally appoints you as their commander in chief? I'm already signed up, and soon you and your settlement shall be too comrade! The Brotherhood of Steel Such a fortunate thing that your first meeting with the Brotherhood of Steel should soon bring you the trust of dear Danse. Work with the brotherhood, stay in their good graces and learn what you can from them. It makes it all the easier to strike when the time is right to eliminate the America loving filth. The Railroad A necessary part of accessing the institute, but why stop there? Like with the Brotherhood it's best to keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. The Railroad in particular has three great rewards. The Cloak & Dagger perk from Deacon, The Deliverer, and Ballistic Weave. The Institute Such fortune that your very goal, your own son, is there to welcome you into the Institute easily and with you soon to be the great leader. Synths are the perfect, inhuman, tools to work with absolute loyalty. While their technological supremacy is far superior to any others in the Commonwealth. As you yourself have already infiltrated the Railroad and BOS, their destructions will be swift and simple while the Minutemen fall easily into line. Nuka-World There's only two things that really matter with Nuka-World. The foolish traders and slaves must be kept in line, and the Ace Operator perk is essential. It is rather unfortunate that the Operators are so obsessed with profit, but as the supreme Overboss of Nuka-World, they surely can be re-educated later. Oh, and a third thing. John-Caleb Bradberton is a capitalist pig who deserves death, but might it be better to leave him living and suffering for who knows how long? The decision is yours, comrade. Far Harbour DiMA must die. That is all. His knowledge, abilities, and all of Acadia are a threat to your glorious synthetic state. What you do with the Children of Atom and Far Harbour are up to you. Quick Build - It's a shame you have so few points to work with, but at least you can always invest more later. You'd think a spy would have much more endurance and strength at least, but their later perks aren't so valuable. It is a shame too that Luck has to be so low, but with good stealth and high damage sneak attacks you can evade or eliminate many enemies with one shot with the right equipment. My Preffered Special Priority
Alternatively start with just 3 perception, since you get the bobblehead early and it just means delaying lockpick perks a bit. Then with intelligence 4, that means you have 3 points to spare in getting agility to 7 for ninja sneak attacks. Important Perks
Special Notes on certain decisions in the Commonwealth: Virgil is a loose end, too dangerous to be left to his own devices. He dies the moment he's outlived his usefulness. Covenant has some interesting possibilities, but at the end the, while unlikely, potential for them to truly develop a test to identify Gen 3 synths is a needless risk. Besides, their destruction will make the Railroad more trusting of you to allow for easy infiltration. While Covenant itself isn't a bad settlement to have. Vault 81 is best done like most other playthroughs. Just don't get bitten, and later give Austin the cure. This will earn their adoration, while you with Curie can perhaps create more later. Cabot House doesn't have a clear best option. I'd pick whichever sounds best to you. Either free Lorenzo for endless mysterious serum for your own use, or eradicate the Cabot's entirely. As they don't belong to a faction you control, their pre-war knowledge could be used in resistance against your total communist domination of the commonwealth. Isabel Cruz from Automatron also has her fate left to your preference. Though she doesn't become a controlled settler, she is knowledgeable, skilled, and shown willingness to bend to your will. Such a girl simply needs some good cummunist guidance. The Vault-Tec Rep while willing to work for you, also knows quite a bit about your past. Elimination is entirely reasonable. The USS Constitution and its robots are another relic of the past with dangerous potential. Especially after their identification of you on sight. However, their goals are specific and known and their outside contacts limited. Perhaps with further time with them, their past records which had included you might be of use. Even so, elimination is a fair possibility. The General Atomics Galleria is full of irregular, destructive, and capitalist robots. I suggest immediate disabling, to preserve salvageable parts, or self-destruct to set an example. Dogmeat is a good and loyal boy. Piper is a wildcard and should not be trusted. I don't support the news. Curie may be best kept as a robot rather than a synth to keep her from getting too many ideas. All in all I just think this is a fun backstory to have which isn't completely unreasonable to fit into the normal cookie-cutter backstory of Fallout 4. It's rather silly and strange too, but Fallout isn't a stranger to that either. I hope you found this interesting, and maybe you'd like to try it yourself sometime, :) [link] [comments] |
Who would a Legionary side with in Fallout 4? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 10:03 PM PDT So, I'm considering using an alternate start mod and making a Legion based character for Fallout 4. Melee, no chems, psychotic lunatic who wants to crucify people. All that good stuff. Here's where I'm hitting a roadblock; who does Legionman side with? I'm honestly leaning towards Minutemen, which creates a really funny mental image. "Another settlement needs our help. Would you PLEASE not crucify all the raiders in front of their gates? We don't want people afraid of us, General." [link] [comments] |
