The status of California after Fallout 2 Posted: 16 Jul 2021 04:33 PM PDT So I recently played a lot of Fallout 2 and New Vegas recently, mostly because I was interested in the lore. And I find the NCR quite interesting in concept as a developing nation after the bombs drop. Part of the reason why I find it so interesting is because you, the player, have helped it come into existence and development ever since the first Fallout game. The Vault Dweller canonically saves Tandi from a group of Raiders, called the Khans, after killing every single one of them except for one kid who survives and goes on to form the New Khans you see in Fallout 2. Tandi and her father become the leaders and presidents of the NCR, with Tandi living to over a hundred years old, which is surprising for the wasteland. In Fallout 2 you see the beginnings of the NCR, and by the end of Fallout 2 the Chosen One will use the G.E.C.K. they acquire to rebuild their small tribal village Arroyo into a major city called New Arroyo. Now, it's hard to remember specific details, but I believe I remember someone from the NCR saying that New Arroyo eventually becomes a major city in the NCR, though not the capital because the capital of the NCR is still Shady Sands. Regardless, by New Vegas, nearly every single town and providence you see in Fallout 2 becomes part of the NCR, including Vault City, New Reno, and presumably even Los Angeles. You can see a map of NCR territory in New Vegas. https://i.redd.it/c30nowmsxti41.jpg and a picture from Fallout 2 of what New Arroyo presumably looks like. This would make the NCR a pretty well developed nation, maybe even somewhat comparable to being better than America from before the Great War in terms of its development. That is, one might say that if news from New Vegas after the death of Tandi didn't contradict that. After Tandi died and NCR kept spreading they began to need more resources after the mines from Redding and Broken Hills began to run dry, and the G.E.C.K. stopped working. The NCR began to develop new issues that are similar to problems of the current real world Vegas, in that living in the middle of the desert requires a lot of water, and developing a nation especially requires a lot of water. They looked for just about anywhere they could siphon water from, including all the nearby lakes. The NCR faces a legion beyond the legion, and that's that it developed too much for the resources that were available to its region. That, and the fact that the Brahmin companies have developed too much power in the NCR for the government to function at maximum capacity, and the NCR is developing a lot of issues it may not know how to deal with. Shady Sands and New Arroyo may have changed by quite a lot since the NCR was in its prime, and there's no telling what the situation is like now. I would really, really like to visit California again sometime in the future, just to see what the main cities of the NCR are currently like. After all, the NCR was basically made and shaped by the player character since the very beginning, being carried on our backs since its conception. Edit: The map I linked to is a fan creation, and I'm very sorry that I misrepresented it as official canon. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 11:27 AM PDT Fallout 4 is criticized in the fallout community consistently for a few different things. Common complaints I've seen is a reliance on radiant quests, choices not existing OR not changing the world around you, barebones RPG systems, the works. You've seen them all, you know them all. However, almost all of these things were addressed in the Far Harbor expansion. If Fallout 4 received 2-3 more DLC's with the content that Nuka World and (especially) Far Harbor had, I genuinely think that fallout 4 would be regarded in a completely different light. A loose comparison I would make can be found in the series. Fallout: NV was poorly received at launch, though for different reasons (bugs, surprise), so a lot of people didn't fully enjoy the game. However, as time went on, Obsidian made several great DLC's that added a lot of content, the most overlooked and underrated being GRA. If you're unfamiliar, Gun Runners Arsenal was much closer to Automatron or the vault building DLC's in Fallout 4. It added a couple of quests, a lot of cool guns, and challenges to complete in your pip-boy. My point is these less substantial DLC's do have a place, and although I'd prefer basic content like vault building to be included in a free update, I think those DLC's were somewhat fine. The problem was that they took away from more story DLC's. Old World Blues and Lonesome Road changed the way a lot of people thought about F:NV. Although the base game was much richer in role-playing elements, and I enjoy it much, much more than F4, I do think that F4 could have had a resurgence from more hardcore fans. Bethesda created a beautiful (though I hate the art style personally), explorable, atmospheric world in F4, and I think the game was a lot less "lazy" than advertised. They focused on different things than they have in the past, and received some backlash for it. They responded by dropping the best DLC since shivering isles in Far Harbor, and I could only imagine if we got 2 or 3 more 10-15 hour experiences like such. Looking back, this post is may be a bit redundant and pointless, but I was just hoping to start a discussion and see what the community thinks of this (maybe?) hot take. Edit: Also, sorry if this is somewhat of a rehashed idea, I don't spend as much time on this sub as I used to and I'm not sure if this has been covered recently. [link] [comments] |
I don't understand the Tranquility Lounger. Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:46 PM PDT How was Braun able to extend his life for over 200 years using a regular Visiontron pod without any cables or tubes sticking out of him and looking pretty good while Mr. House need a purpose build pod with advanced aparature hooked up to him and looked like a raisin? Fallout 1 really has a way of making you feel desperate and alone Posted: 17 Jul 2021 03:50 AM PDT So, background, I decided to finally give the OG Fallout a try after years of trying and falling out by the end of Vault 15. I've actually beaten most side quests, leveled up, and made some actual progress...I also have every companion. For a brief moment I felt unstoppable, I had a gang of friends willing to back me up against the wastes themselves, I had a shotgun in my hand and combat armor to boot. That's when it went...downhill. I met the Brotherhood, I went to the Glow, I joined and did their quests. I was given the mission to save a soldier from the Hub. I walk in expecting a fight and get nuked. I had to reload about a hundred times ro save everyone. Eventually I take them down, roll call time! Dogmeat, injured but alive. Tycho, badass as always. Ian, alive and kicking, (literally, since he forgot how to use a gun). Katja? kATJA?? I lost Katja but gained some power armor and a new perk. It sucks, but at least I'm not alone, right? I get the flamer and the rocket launcher, ready to finally take on the milf deathclaw in order to get the Gun Runners on my side. A surprisingly easy fight...until the flamer hits both the mama AND dogmeat roasting them both alive. It hurt, but I had to keep moving. It didn't REALLY hurt until the Gun Runners, the Blades, and my squad attacked the Regulators. That's when I had ANOTHER stray bullet which hit a Civilian, making them all aggro. Now the Boneyard is living up to its name. The Cathedral...I lost here more times than anywhere else. Close corridors, a billion nightkin, and religious wackos everywhere, it was like a trip down South. I finally kill Morpheus, but a sly little nightkin walks in from a room down yonder with enough ammo to blow the brains out of both Ian AND Tycho. I saved, knowing I was almost to the Master and I was determined to finish this game after a decade. What Fallout 1 doesn't really tell you is when you're carrying to much. In order to get the badge to the LA Vault, I had to drop some stuff...namely my 10mm, my Rocket launcher, my ripper, my power fist, my spears, and all my trash. Now here I am, standing in front of the LA Vault with the bare essentials for healing, my minigun and flamer, a suit of ill-gotten power armor and the ghosts of all my companions screaming at me. I am about to lower myself into mutant hell with no one besides me. I am alone. FUCKING IAN, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS STOP ROUNDHOUSE KICKING AND USE YOUR GUN! [link] [comments] |
Which fallout protagonist had the roughest start of the game in terms of difficulty? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 11:09 PM PDT To explain the title, I mean in terms of what they had to deal with during the first hour or so of gameplay. For instance, the lone wanderer had to fight their way out of vault 101. [link] [comments] |
Y'all ever think about what happens outside after entering the vault? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:49 AM PDT I just started a new playthrough of Fallout 4 because I plan to review the game and I got really curious as to how Boston is looking just after the bomb goes off and you enter the vault. It's kinda crazy to think that while we're orderly waiting in line to get our suits and being frozen the outside world is probably a massive mess... I can think of that vertibird crashing into the museum of freedom, all the eventual skeletons you're going to find recently being dead or now waiting for the inevitable. The panic, the looting, wildfires consuming all. It's insane! It would be kinda cool if we could at least see through a flashback (of perhaps a ghoul in the memory den) of what the world looked like just after the war. P.S: I think it's a bummer the memory den is so underutilized... [link] [comments] |

Shin's greatest weakness was being shortsighted when it comes to technology. Posted: 16 Jul 2021 09:42 PM PDT When it comes to the scientists they were a great threat however also a great asset. Considering how varied West-Tek was with their research it's genuinely possible that one of the bunch had an abundance of first hand experience with Power Armor or high tech weaponry. The expeditions single scribe, Valdez admits that she doesn't posses the knowledge or the staff to even figure out what the purpose of their home base is. The expeditions has a vast lack of advanced technology, with only 3 (at most) power armor suits and the majority of members using the most basic of weaponry. This can be compared to even Raiders who have been shown to have PA and the Appalachian Enclave with an entire fleet of X0-1 in lockup. Using the scientists for their knowledge in maintaining / improving / even producing high tech equipment would have secured the brotherhoods dominance technologically and politically over Appalachia. In the short term he's ridding Appalachia of scientists with cabin fever. In the long term he's shooting the expedition in the leg and limiting them to 3 decaying power armour suits and almost no advanced weaponry. The West-Tek scientists would have first hand knowledge of the production and design locations of power armor. This would allow them to maintain and make improvements on the existing arsenal as well as providing locations to raid for their PA supply or even resume the production of. This can be seen in the Western Brotherhood as well, in their shunning of science they restricted themselves to simply maintaining a decaying fleet of PA. In the same time that they were maintaining the same PA the Enclave had managed to develop 4 new vast improvement on a model that was a cutting edge prototype. (X0-1 ~ APA ~ APA MK2 ~ Enclave PA ~ Hellfire PA) (half of these were developed after the enclave was almost wiped off the map and had to fly to the other side of the continent) Without their help the Appalachian brotherhood would eventually run out of their high tech technology at which point they would be at the same level as the local settlers. However with their help they could easily thrive and establish their dominance permanently. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 08:36 PM PDT This comment is 4 years old from a deleted account: "The older fallouts really tailor serial killer builds much better than the new ones. Dialogue opens up like crazy when you start murdering people around settlements. Settlers will start commenting on the people going missing, they'll stop trusting outsiders, and you'll have to talk your way out of encounters with the law after being suspected. If the word gets out, nobody will ever trust you again." Is this accurate? I'm assuming they mean FO1 & 2, which I own but have yet to play. I'm mostly curious on if the npcs actually respond like this to a random killing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 10:49 PM PDT Do you want Protagonist to be voiced in future Bethesda titles?? For one it brings the game to a more Mainstream role thus bringing alot of new players (I would have never played if FO4 didn't have a voiced protagonist) But on the other hand we know that the quest diversity and amount and Role play aspects will improve without a voiced protagonist. So, whats your take and your wish [link] [comments] |

Not liking new vegas so far, should i skip it? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:59 PM PDT Ive been playing all the games and i finished 3 and was excited to play new vegas because its praisee so much. I started it and i really dont like the games setting and theme overall, and it feels uninteresting to me. It feels very different from fallout 3. Is this just what early game is like, or does it stay the same? [link] [comments] |
Can anyone explain this settler? BOS Deserter maybe? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 02:19 AM PDT What da fuk goin on with this settler I just got? Can't post a photo for silly sub rules. I just got a settler in sturdy and heavy BOS armour with the BOS undersuit (typical bos gear) but with no helmet and like raider face paint. This NPC is just registered as a regular settler with no unique dialogue and I'm just curious to what's going on. If your curios I can DM a photo of him. Is this NPC rare or unique or does anyone know whats up with my game? Cheers 🥂 . [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 10:07 PM PDT In both his plays and illustrations, the accuracy of the portrayal of the Appalachian Wasteland's Cryptids is uncanny, most notably the Grafton Monster and the Snallygaster- both FEV mutants rather than true cryptids. Both, I believe, came about after the widespread publication of these radio plays. The illustrator recreated the exact appearance of each cryptid, even the ones that were as of yet to exist. I believe Steven H. Patterson was a psyker whose abilities manifested artistically. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 08:48 PM PDT It's like walking in a mine field trying to avoid an ending I don't want, I want the minutemen ending but the game seems like it has different plans no matter my choices. (I used to always have the Railroad ending but I'm mixing it up this time, and I don't know what's going on) [link] [comments] |
Conclusion to Vault 88 as a Brotherhood member? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 07:36 PM PDT I'm doing a Brotherhood Heavy play through and I'm wondering something. How would a brotherhood soldier handle vault 88? I'd say they obviously go with the most beneficial/dangerous options for experiments to help better their soldier capabilities but how do they feel about the overseer? Do they kill her for being a ghoul or let her live to help their research? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:55 PM PDT I'm wondering if I can exit Honest Hearts and go back to the wasteland while still doing the dlc. [link] [comments] |
Evacuate the Prydwen? (SPOILERS) Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:19 PM PDT I'm about to finish the Railroad ending of Fallout 4 and I was wondering if there was any way to try to evacuate the prydwen before you blow it up? I don't really feel bad for the BoS given how shitty they are to ghouls and synths but like there's kids on that thing, todd :/ I know you can try to evacuate scientists from the institute before you destroy it so is there any chance to do the same on the blimp?
