Fallout: New Vegas Heck Gunderson’s Easter egg

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 02:25 PM PDT

We meet Heck Gunderson in the Ultralux and learn that he's in the Brahmin industry. Long ago, in the 1600's the last wild Aurochs died and the species went extinct. However, one cattle farmer named Heinz Heck decided to try and breed them back into life.

The cattle he created were larger than normal domestic cows and bulls, he called them "Heck's Cattle". The Brahmin that Heck Gunderson owns are literally "Heck's Cattle"

Has anyone ever gotten a new weapon, saved the game and proceeded to open fire on what ever settlement you were in?

    Fallout 3 was pretty scary

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 11:20 PM PDT

This game was pretty scary if you didn't have the radio blaring at all times maybe it was the fact I was 8 when I first played it or that I thought the feral ghouls were zombies and I was scared of them back then and I didn't know how to turn on the radio but this game was scary Springvale school, the metro, dunwich, old olney, aliens most of point lookout the atmosphere itself just makes you feel scared everything thing is desolate and hopeless but this game just felt pretty scary at times also the behemoth jumpscare

    PSA: Settlements repair themselves

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 09:22 AM PDT

I've realized that a lot of people don't know this. All settlement objects - crops, water pumps, generators, turrets, everything - repair by themselves automatically after a few days (I can't remember the exact number) as long as there is at least one settler living there. So you only have to repair stuff if you want it working NOW, or if it's affecting happiness too badly. Otherwise stop wasting your resources.

After dozens of playthroughs, I've finally realised just how much shit the Vault Tec rep and other prewar ghouls have been through

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 04:29 PM PDT

Most prewar ghouls are pretty composed. They've come to terms with their life after 200 years and live relatively normal lives provided they're Living in a place that is tolerant of them (goodneighbor or the slog). But when the Vault Tec Rep recognises you it's like he snaps. He gets more emotional than any other prewar ghoul we meet. He's so happy to be offered a job and a place at your settlement.

But it got me thinking about how much ghouls like him saw after the bombs dropped. They would've survived the downfall of the society they knew, watched the worst years afterwards and god knows what they did in order to survive it. And throughout all that they had to deal with the process of ghoulificaton. Makes you think about how much mourning some of them did in the quieter parts of their life.

It must've been decades before settlements began to form and even then we don't know how tolerant they would've been towards ghouls. They've all seen the rising threat of the institute. They all remember a time before super mutants. The more adventurous ones might even remember the less mutated ancestors of the creatures found around the wasteland.

Makes me wish that we could get a prewar ghoul as a companion at some point. If they knew about the SS prewar origins then it could make for some really funny references during combat and more interesting comments on locations that you visit. Imagine one quoting the fat man advert when you pick one up "well our government has bullies too"

Do you think Vault-Tec ever made (or could make) any private or luxury vaults for a single family like how our worlds companies make luxurious bunkers?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 05:43 PM PDT

I been roping my head around the idea for awhile now.

Like, make a luxury version of the standard vault, make it so it fits 1 family instead of several, and whoever bids the highest on a particular luxury shelter gets and Vault-Tec gets a few extra funds outside of government investment.

And maybe conduct some secret experiments designed for lower populations.

    What do you guys think?

(Xbox one) how do I stop fallout 4 crashing?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 12:44 AM PDT

I have a question: Why does the Brotherhood not shoot Nick, Strong or X6-88 on sight if you bring them with you on the Prydwen?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 04:30 AM PDT

I mean, is there any in-lore explanation for that? Because as far as we are concerned even the stupidest of Brotherhood recruits can tell Nick and X6-88 are synths, as well as Strong being a super-mutant.

If they are so adamant on "cleansing the Commonwealth" of all the "undesirables", why are they acting so hypocritically when it comes to your companions? As far as Nick is concerned, him being a Gen2 prototype, could make an excuse for them seeing him as nothing more than a very advanced robot, but X6-88? Strong is even a dumb mutant, who is kind of arbitrary by default as to why he is not even hostile to humans in the first place (I don't like him, I admit), in my opinion I would have no hard feelings even getting him shot by the Brotherhood to be honest.

I want more places like Thicket Excavations in Fallout 5!

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 12:56 PM PDT

Ok, you might ask, WTF is so special about Thicket Excavations in Fallout 4?

Well, I think that the dryed place is quite cool, with the peaceful mirelurks and all. But what gets me most is how the place changes completely because of your actions.

Almost every other location doesn't change after you visited it. Let's take Meford Memorial Hospital as an example.

First time you're in, you face the super mutants kill them all, explore the location and you're done.

Then you have to complete the Jackpot quest. As you return there, the same super mutant suicider will be waiting at the first floor, there will be the same enemies, same debris, same lootboxes, same everything.

And if you receive another radiant quest pointing to the same location (greenskins, for example), expect to face the same enemies, spawning exactly at the same location (yes, boom goes the suicider AGAIN) and etc. etc. etc...

    Nothing ever change!

That's why I like Thicket Excavations so much. At first it's a boring location, with very few mirelurks and all. But after you complete the related quest, it becomes a total different location.

Because I don't expect the locations to change, I rarely visit once cleared locations (except on radiant quests, with tends to be extremely boring).

So, for Fallout 5 I expect having a lot more changing locations, mainly based on my actions or storyline progression. This certainly will raise my interest in visiting some places more than once.

Are there any coupon codes hidden around that I could use?

One of the things I hate about Fallout 4.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 08:12 PM PDT

They make you find the RailRoad. You should be able to do a play through without finding them but apparently they are the only ones that can decode the Courser chip. The Brotherhood of Steel has better technology but can't do it. I hate that.

Looking to replay a fallout game but which one should I choose?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 11:51 PM PDT

I've completed fo3 back in the day on the 360, and spent a fair amount of time in both nv and fo4 over the years but never completed either.

I'm looking to play on pc now and own all of the fallout games. Any opinions on which to play vanilla?

    Favorite Companion in Fallout Universe?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 02:42 PM PDT

    Title says it all,

    mine are:

FO3 - Fawkes and Dogmeat (Fawkes as tank and Dogmeat supporting Fawkes is incredible)

FONV - ED E and Boone (Great companions for support)

FO4 - Maccready and Dogmeat (Insanely powerful if you use companion mods)

Feel free to argue my point here

how much shame is there in using tgm?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 12:15 AM PDT

I pretty much use it either when I'm a next to impossible fight or really don't feel like going through the struggle of fighting 5 Assaultrons (exaggeration but still). I tried killing the overboss in nuka world after going through the gauntlet without cheats which was a pain in the ass because I was pretty low on health and it took me like, half an hour. Question is that is there a lot shame in occasionally using it in situations where having to endure an overly difficult fight while I'm low on supplies would give me a literal headache? 90% of the time I play the game normally and usually try to improvise my way through a fight like that with minutemen air strikes and killing raiders so I can get a critical hit to use on the particularly strong enemies but occasionally I just can't do that.

Playing Fallout 3 for the first time ever.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 03:18 AM PDT

Where to even start. Fallout 4 is easily my most played game of all time, around 1000+ hours in it (sure for some people thats not a lot but for someone who plays a ton of games thats a huge amount for me). Fallout New Vegas is also a game I love but have much less time in, probably about 300-400 hours, though it was my first Fallout game. It's been like 4-5 years since I got into the franchise and FINALLY decided to get into Fallout 3 and im so glad I did. Besides some weird writing (but yknow, FO4 fan so I should shut it lol) and some absolutely jank as hell gunplay, I very much enjoy it. The world just feels so dead and desolate. It feels easy to just take the evil route in this game because the game really makes it feel like everything is so fucked you might as well just do it. It's the apocalypse, who cares anymore? But your character can choose not to be evil. They can choose to try and put some good into the world, to give people hope and inspire them. It's a feeling I never got while playing Fallout 4, where as in that game it felt more like im "the hero" I guess? But in this game when my character does something good, I feel really happy with myself. My character doesn't feel like some badass who's OP as shit and is just steamrolling everything in their path and being the cool good guy or whatever. My character just feels like a human. Compared to FO4 where you're the boss, I feel like im just kind of someone who's just helping out the BoS. Hell im borderline a pawn for them with how much shit they make me do, even though im not really the biggest fan of them besides the fact they do seem to actually care about humanities best interest. I don't know what else to say without making this wall of text larger so i'll just say FO3 is an amazing game and I will be playing this for a very long time. In my current play through my character is level 20 and i've beaten Broken Steel. If y'all have a suggestion on what DLC to play next please tell me, as im running low on side quests it seems lol.
