Why do people say Maxson is like the Western Elders when he's closer in ideology to Lyons?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:48 PM PDT

A lot about the statements regarding Athur Maxson claim that he shifted the Brotherhood on the east coast to be more like the current iteration of the Western chapters, but this makes no sense with what we actually see in-game. Danse rewards the player (a civilian at the time) with an energy weapon (something that would never happen with the Western chapters), Maxson has Scribes engaging in scientific innovations (something that Veronica says the Western chapters aren't going at the present time), Maxson allows outsiders to join like Lyons did (as Ingram mentions a group of wastelander recruits joining prior to the protagonist), and Maxson is giving speeches about protecting the people of the wasteland (which the Outcasts and the Western Elders would never do).

We read the Prydwen terminal entries about how trade is going on with traders (I'm not touching on Teagan's unsanctioned op), and we see this continued with a victory against the Institute where we see soldiers and scribes making (as the residents of Diamond City say) "large purchases". If Maxson was more like the Western chapters, then why are his people making purchases instead of seizing what they want from the civilians of this settlement?

Although the Outcasts returned to the fold, we see that Maxson allocates soldiers to fight raiders, Gunners, Super Mutants, and ferals. He's going out of his way to focus some of his people on dealing with threats, not simply focusing on the retrieval of technology (something that isn't in line with what we see from the modern Western Brotherhood in New Vegas or the conduct of the Outcasts who we see in Fallout 3).

Danse even says that killing ghouls is murder and is prohibited, speaks about how killing civilians isn't sanctioned even if they have tech on them, and random Brotherhood soldiers at the airport will speak to each other about being concerned about the potential for collateral damage because of Gen 3 synths. None of this is in line with the mentality of the current Western chapters.

Recruit Scara instead of Li, and Maxson doesn't even prohibit her from continuing to see her significant other, Duff, despite the stance that the Western Brotherhood took when it comes to same sex relationships. This is the person who people think changed the Brotherhood on the east coast to be like their Western counterparts? I don't see how.

Destroy the Institute (because taking over an entire society is implausible, even for the Brotherhood) and tell Maxson that you stopped them for the people of the Commonwealth, and he says, "You've truly become one of us, brother/sister". That's about as far as you can get from being like the Outcasts or the Western chapters of the Brotherhood. I don't get why some people act like Maxson completely changed to being like the Western Elders when he's clearly closer in ideology to Lyons than he is to the Outcasts or the Western Elders.

So what's the deal with the Nuka Brand Power Armor?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:30 AM PDT

You know the one(s), that T-51 Nuka Cola Power Armor, and that other Quantum variant you find in that space attraction? You find them in Nuka World? I understand the game contains a HUGE parody of consumerism in a sense, but uhh, aren't these things supposed to be technological marvels of military equipment? Imagine an entire unit of power armor soldiers fighting in Nuka Cola branded power armor on the battlefield!

"YOUR IMMINENT DEATH HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY NUKA COLA, BOTTOMS UP!!"

EDIT: I appreciate the replies, and my question has been answered. Feel free to keep answering if you so choose, but I get the gist now! :)

Why didn't the enclave show themselves sooner?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 01:15 AM PDT

Post says it all. If the enclave really wanted to rebuild America, then why didn't they come 10-20 years after the war? Yeah the radiation levels were probably very high. But they've been shown to have high tech gear. They could have been the founders of a new nation in place of the NCR. Instead they wait until the events of fallout 2 and let a tribal destroy them. It just doesn't make any sense. Thoughts?

    How advanced was prewar medicine?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:26 PM PDT

We all know F.E.V and House mentions "artificial organs". Apart from these and the autodoc, are there any other prewar miracles of medicine?

Why is it said that the legion would fail if they defeat NCR and reach the coast?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 08:00 AM PDT

I get the whole idea that they'd have no one else to conquer but that's only when looking west, even the legion would think "hmmm we've been as far a Colorado and now Southern California....guess no tribes exist in any other direction since only north and west exist!" The legion aren't that stupid, I don't believe the only tribe they'd have left to conquer would be itself if they took down the NCR, they'd obviously go anywhere else after words

What are some examples of wasteland entertainment as depicted in lore?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 09:27 AM PDT

For example, gambling (either Caravan, Tragic the Garnering or casinos) seems like a good way to pass the time for many wasteland travelers.

Then there is always drinking at local bars which a lot of wasteland settlers enjoy. While also passing stories and gossip.

Raiders seem to be fond of getting doped up on any chem they can find and reacting to that. So that counts too.

Music is always a source of entertainment as well in the real world and Fallout world.

    Any other examples?

Is there any enclave members or groups that aren’t mustache twirling bad guys

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 07:57 AM PDT

Im kinda new to fallout lore and Ive been looking into the lore of the enclave recently and tbh I haven't found one good thing they've ever done or members that aren't evil.So is there any enclave members or groups that just want to unite America and help people, instead of being apocalyptic Nazis

How is it that pre-war food hasn't been all eaten by now?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:45 PM PDT

I get that they have been preserved for 200 years from all the preservatives they have inside, and the radiation that sterilizes them. But how is it that they haven't been all eaten by now?

Well I guess there could a be few reasons for it. First of all, the population of the US has dropped massively from the great war. It's likely that more than 90% of the population died from the nukes. Then the radiation and shortage that came shortly after. And a lot of people that survived were in the vaults, growing their own food from the inside. People that were outside also started herding brahmin and wasteland crops at some point.

However a lot of them still did eat pre-war food. They didn't just entirely rely on their own produce. I'm kinda surprised it somehow didn't run out by now. You'd think they would be pretty rare by now.

America as the bombs were falling.

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:34 PM PDT

So the lore of the fallout universe tells us that due to oil "needs" the U.S. annexes Mexico and replenishes their supply there. It also states that after the Chinese invade Alaska they annex Canada to aid in troop movements and logistics. With that being said does that mean that right as the bombs were falling the U.S. consited of all of North America and became the largest country by landmass in the world or is Greenland a part of North America and henceforth the U.S. didn't control all of N.A.?

    How big the NCR army?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 09:03 AM PDT

Starting the fact that NCR should be the most populous country known, with about 700,000 citizens. How big do you think its army should be? And one more question, do you really think an army well organized and with the dimension as the NCR army could be beaten by any enemies seen in the game?

Was there something like the Internet in Fallout?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 07:59 AM PDT

I was playing Fallout 76 (which I dont consider canon because its made by a completly different company and only published by Bethesda) and I was reading trough some terminals when I saw a terminal entry in which a person stated they ordered something online. I cant remember what he ordered but I am 100% sure it said he bought the item online.
I've never encountered another entry mentioning buying stuff online anywhere else in any of the 3D Fallouts, besides how would one go about browsing trough websites when the terminal can only display text?
