Reviving the Psyker Discussion Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:30 PM PST I was replaying Fallout 4 and decided to actually take interest in Mama Murphy this time around- I didn't dislike her or anything, but just wasn't interested in giving her drugs for more dialogue. Immediately I was sort of blown away by certain things she said/knew (I guess I didn't pay much attention my first play-through) which led me down a rabbit hole into looking into Psykers. So now I just have all these thoughts/theories/questions that I need to discuss before I lose my mind. First of all, what are your thoughts on them being included into Fallout? Telepathic powers aren't exactly new to a sci-fi setting (looking at you Star Wars and Mass Effect, and arguably Cloud Atlas and Avatar too) but it definitely caught me off guard. Then again we do have confirmed aliens in this game and "evil plants" in earlier installments. Personally, I like them. They're weird and stroke that "mystical" itch I find is lacking in most sci-fi media. Now, what do you think the origins are? First of all we know there are quite a few characters who can "see" or know things in advance- Forecaster and Mama Murphy being the first two that come to mind. As far as we know they're just regular everyday people who were born with these abilities. There's also Lorenzo who gains abilities from his Crown he discovered, and Dr. Calvert who gains abilities after being a brain-in-a-jar for 200 years. (Which means arguably the Crown itself could just be a way to hold a consciousness, which then takes over and enhances whoever wears it.) BUT, we also know that it can be mutated with certain strands of the FEV, particularly when injected into the brain. These abilities are much more unpredictable, often lead to insanity, and tend to be more destructive than information-based or at the very least uncontrollable. It's possible though that the FEV just so happens to be mutating the DNA in such a way that it resembles/mimics the dna of the people naturally born with this- but it's not for certain. In addition, the Beastlords who were cannibals gained powers from being exposed to a purity lad kind of radiation and could control certain creatures (like that Ant girl with the special suit to help boost her control- except she may have never been exposed to radiation.) Another question: We know mutants can have these Psyker abilities if mutated right, and some humans can be mutated or born with it- plus there's actually a mole rat that has the power too... what about Ghouls and Synths though? Since Synths are a hybrid (sort of) I'd assume they may not be born with it unless a specific FEV strand was developed for it, but may be able to receive the powers in some way? And Ghouls, well... I think they'd either need it before-hand as a naturally born ability or the radiation would have to be the same kind as the Beastlords. Regardless it's all very interesting, because it's still up in the air. Who's to say the people "born naturally with it" haven't been exposed to some radiation, or been experimented on by aliens for all we know? Who's to say they aren't just descendants of someone who's had the FEV grant them powers, they had kids, and the powers are now hereditary? (Unlikely though since almost everyone exposed to FEV becomes sterile as it attacks the gametes and neutralizes them.) I also wonder what kind of powers are available; we know beast control, telepathic communication, telekinesis, photokinesis, pyrokinesis, seeing the past, future, present (other locations), and contacting people via dreams is all possible. Also- doesn't this lend slightly more credibility to the "Fallout is Elder Scrolls" theory?? Who's to say magic isn't just triggered activation of Psyker abilities that have been cross-bred and advanced via new FEV strains, radiation, or natural selection?? Mama Murphy needs her chems to hell bring on the visions after all. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Dec 2020 10:30 PM PST why would they do that experimenting on people after a great wars they have no reason too the world is destroy it would be useless information for them all that shit...it would cost them more money do that then doing normal vault(except for the vault they purpusfully don't make as strong as the other to see how the humain would react to nuclearity which is weird my ass they don't already know that ) unless a third party was involve that could benefict from all these experiment and i don't know nobody who could use theat except the alien? maybe that why they are just watching us in the space and not taking our land? they wait til the experiment is over. weird we never hear of anybody that was at the top of the companie no boss [link] [comments] |
