One of my reoccurring fallout pain moments

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:35 PM PDT

    Pain

When you think it's a typical door but it's a load door and you have to sit through 2 long loading screens with nothing but shame and utter disappointment in your actions.

Always something new with these games

Walking the train tracks in fallout 4 and came across a small cemetery where a psycho raider was mourning/praying in front of a dead raider. I honestly wasn't expecting such depth five years later

What is your Favourite moment from each fallout game that you have played. SPOILERS

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 01:38 AM PDT

Here are my personal favourites and why.

Fallout 1: Getting dipped in the vats at Mariposa. I was not expecting the cut scene showing the dipping. When I first played it in 98 it blew my little mind, I just couldn't believe that I had the option to kill my Character like that.

Fallout 2: First time entering combat after recruiting Goris from Vault 13. I thought Goris was a human follower who just wore a cloak. When he threw that coat off and I saw my own personal deathclaw buddy rip into that poor slaver, oooh it was just magical.

Fallout Tactics: Finding Vault Boy as a recruitable NPC. Wasn't expecting that, and loved his conversations. He didn't fit with the tone, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Fallout Brotherhood of Steel: Never had the......pleasure?

Fallout 3: Finding Dogmeat at the scrap heap. I'm a sucker for dogmeat, and finding out he could come along, just like 1 and 2 hit me with another smack of nostalgia. Made better by the Puppies! Perk. I'm a sucker for dogmeat.

Fallout New Vegas: Finding and reading the story of the Survivalist in Zion Canyon (Honest Hearts). Such and amazing bit of story hidden away in terminals. It brought me to tears the first time I read through it. I bring it up all the time when talking to people about storytelling in video games. Wiki link to full story

Fallout 4: Marching to the Institute with Liberty Prime for the glory of the Brotherhood. Loved hearing his anti communist propaganda, definitely a good time.

Fallout 76: The responders. I love them as a faction, I love the sense of community, I love them helping everyone wherever they could. One of the most believable factions in Fallout, shame we didn't get to meet them properly.

    What are yours?

(FNV) Anyone else wanted the Battle at Hoover Dam to be more epic than it should be?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:10 PM PDT

We all know the engine will probably go haywire of there are more than 20 NPC's in one place.

It was just kind of underwhelming to be honest with all the setup to all the factions leading up to that point with only having about 10-15 Legionnaires storming the front.

I expected it to be something epic on both sides like seeing a horde of Legionnaires from afar while standing on top of the Dam as an NCR sniper or charging in the Dam with a horde of your Legion homies as a Legion advocate for one epic battle for the ages..

I hope the Fallout 4 New Vegas remake will do something like that..

Some counterpoints and correction of misinformation on a recent post about "Why the NCR can more than easily defeat the Legion in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, even without the Courier's help."

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 02:03 PM PDT

The post is incredibly biased and is clearly written from the point of someone who strongly favors the NCR. Yes it's incredibly well written and much research was done into presenting the case the OP was going for. However I find that much of the information is made to be made more pallatable to a general audience. My biggest issue with it being the presentation of the regular NCR Army. To quote https://www.reddit.com/user/GodBlessTheNCR316/

"First, let's start with an analysis of the respective weapons, equipment and gear of the respective ranks of the NCR and the Legion going into the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. Beginning with the NCR. The NCR Trooper comprises the core of the Republic's colossal armies and is the prime component of the NCR Army. A superb combination of volunteers and conscripts whose degrees of training, motivation, combat experience and access to equipment vary across the ranks, they're some of the most disciplined, most professional soldiers in all of the Wastes."

The NCR Regular's are hardly a superb combination when compared to their Legion counterparts. To quote Colonel Cassandra Moore: "I've encountered them firsthand, I've been impressed with their discipline. I've heard they don't allow women in their military, considering them nothing more than breeding stock. Their men, however, are typically quite large, in phenomenal condition, and prefer close-quarter weapons. Recent engagements have taught us to fear their shock attacks, so it's a blessing that we seem to have superior firearms." In comparison NCR Trooper discipline is questionable at best as we see corruption among the NCR Army by the likes men of Contreras, Troopers fooling around the New Vegas Strip, and other acts such as when one happens upon Ranger Milo and the 2 NCR Troopers with him. He's all set to attack Nelson... but the troopers with him in part due to not having to follow his orders... but an unwillingness to even consider helping him. To quote Milo: "Nope. I'm just the only ranger around. The rest of the kids here are troopers, inexperienced, out-numbered and under-equipped." Another statement from Moore even furthers how disciplined Legionaries are in comparison to their NCR counterparts: " I've never once seen a single one of them back down, or disobey an order. They'll happily charge a fortified position with little more than a sharpened stick if ordered to, and do so without hesitation." Another excellent From this we can infer that had the situation been reversed, Legionaries in the same situation would be more than happy to do the very thing that the NCR's troopers refuse to. Perhaps an even more direct source for the NCR Regulars is the Route 188 Arms Merchant who herself was a former NCR Army NCO: "It means my C.O. was an asshole, and I told him to eat shit. He ordered me to flog a couple deserters. Those kids didn't desert. They just got liquored up on the Strip and missed roll call. I don't know what else the brass expects... half these kids don't get more than two weeks of training before they ship 'em out here." Not only is she matter of factly stating that the NCR Troopers are undisciplined... but they're poorly trained as well. Perhaps the most accurate statement in the poster's claim is the NCR Army's sheer manpower which according to an in game loading screen: "Troopers are volunteer and conscripted forces in NCR's military. They vary widely in devotion, experience, and even in basic equipment. What they lack in consistency they make up for in numbers." However the Legion is certainly a more professional army, and exceptionally better disciplined.

"They're outfitted with modern military-grade ballistic vests that offer excellent protection against small arms fire, shrapnel and melee weapons alongside steel helmets. They're armed with 5.56 × .44mm NATO Service Rifles (for the average conscripted NCR Trooper) in addition to 5.56 × .44mm NATO Marksman Carbines, 5mm Assault Rifles, 12-gauge Riot Shotguns and .308 Sniper Rifles (for the battle-hardened, fully-trained volunteer veteran NCR Troopers)."

They most certainly are not equipped with "modern military-grade ballistic vests that offer excellent protection against small arms fire". To quote the 188 Arms Merchant who was a former NCR Army NCO: "Anyway, I was always complaining about the standard issue gear. The new kids don't even get body armor, can you believe that? " Only some of their troopers are equipped with body armor... not the newer ones, and the body armor issued is certainly better than a recruit legionaries, but equal in terms of Damage Threshold to Veteran Legion armor. However with a weight of 26, it is 10 full pounds heavier than the Veteran Legion armor. This gives the Veteran Legionary the same protection as the "battle-hardened, fully-trained volunteer veteran NCR Troopers"... with the additional benefit of being 10 pounds less. Those 10 pounds could potentially mean 10 more pounds of extra ammo, food, supplies, etc... However the statement "battle-hardened, fully-trained volunteer veteran NCR Troopers" is a statement that has no concrete evidence behind it. The statement appears to be made based on the fact that NCR Troopers at Hoover Dam are armed with "Marksman Carbines, 5mm Assault Rifles, 12-gauge Riot Shotguns and .308 Sniper Rifles" that are generally superior to the standard issue Service Rifle. However in all likelihood this is done for game balancing as the Legionaries at the Battle of Hoover Dam are armed with practically the same equipment more or less. It appears as if this statement was made by the OP to compensate for the NCR Army's relative lack of "battle-hardened, fully-trained volunteer veteran NCR Troopers" in comparison to the Legion. In comparison to the Veteran Legionaries who to quote NCR Ranger Chief Hanlon "Take a regular legionary and age him ten years. Whatever they lose to age they make up for with experience. Life expectancy isn't long in the Legion. You live ten years in Caesar's army, you're a force to be reckoned with." One must also mention that there are also indeed NCR Troopers equipped with firearms of lower quality than the general issue Service Rifle E.G. Varmint Rifle and Caravan Shotgun. Yet the poster conveniently "forgot" to mention this, or more likely didn't want to mention it. You also didn't mention how many Legionaries can obtain their arms which according to Colonel Cassandra Moore is: "While they prefer to use their blades, it's common for them to scavenge better weapons from their enemies and use those. The men have been told to toss their weapons over the side of the dam if they receive a fatal wound, but I doubt many will remember." Yes the Legion prefer to use their blades yet they have no hesitation to use firearms at all. Even to the point of the NCR telling their rank and file to ditch their weapon if they're fatally wounded, despite the fact that the average NCR soldier is likely not disciplined enough to do that. While in comparison the average legionary will according to Lt. Carrie Boyd: "Better believe it. Everybody, everybody in Caesar's Legion from Caesar on down will kill themselves before they can be captured." That's fanatical commitment that I doubt many in the NCR's Regular Army having.

Select elite units of veteran NCR Troopers can also be equipped with Laser Rifles, Plasma Rifles, Tri-Beam Laser Rifles and Multi-Plas Rifles, as well (though not anywhere in the Mojave Wasteland, mind you).

    A) Where is there any concrete evidence of the soldiers wielding these energy weapons being "Select elite units of veteran NCR Troopers"? Because as far as I can tell that's again yet another matter of conjecture. B) What is the point of even mentioning these units if your post is "Why the NCR can more than easily defeat the Legion in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, even without the Courier's help." when these units are "though not anywhere in the Mojave Wasteland, mind you."? I mean yeah sure it's cool that there are NCR soldiers with energy weapons, but if your post is about the 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam... than why are you mentioning units that aren't even in the Mojave let alone Hoover Dam?

In conclusion despite the efforts of the OP to sway the reader's view to respect the NCR Army, it's been done in a very biased way. Despite the mountains of evidence against such a case. Note that most of my sources are from either current of former NCR Army Personnel. This is the first phase of my planned breakdown of the OP's original post and I will follow with more throughout the next few days. Granted I'm sure I'll definitely get extreme backlash from rabid and rampant NCR supporters.

Fallout 4 is my personal favourite

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 12:02 AM PDT

Whilst i dislike the main campaign, i love the atmosphere of F4. It really feels like you're alone out there, with small settlements dotted around the world. I use the nuclear winter mods and it makes it 10x better. I would highly recommend F4 to anyone who wants that shoot em up, lone wolf kind of game, not a story based one

Fallout 3’s quest number vs NV’s quest number

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:42 PM PDT

I'm currently replaying 3 for a minmax run and I was a bit starved for exp, so I went on the wiki to look for sidequests to do. It seemed like there was a severe lack of quests in general.

I thought "that isn't right." So I thought about, you guessed it, New Vegas's quests and looked them up. I was pretty surprised, but I wasn't really expecting anything else. According to the wiki, the amount of quests for each game are below, this includes repeatable quests like scrap metal for the water purifier guy in Megaton.

    Fallout 3

    • 15 main quests

    • 17 side quests

    • 37 unmarked quests

    • 4 Operation Anchorage quests

    • 7 Pitt quests

    • 10 Broken Steel quests

    • 11 Point Lookout quests

    • 4 Mothership Zeta quests

    • 105 total quests

    Fallout New Vegas

    • 30 main quests

    • 81 side quests

    • 84 unmarked quests

    • 13 Dead Money quests

    • 22 Honest Hearts quests

    • 19 Old World Blues quests

    • 9 Lonesome Road quests

    • 258 total quests

Can someone explain map HUD in New Vegas like I'm 5?

Trying to figure out how to plug in the places mentioned in the tutorial to go find them. I wasn't allowed to have video games as a kid, so running games that everybody else played already on Steam on Windows 10 and asking stupid questions. Can't find answer on Google or youtube; all the tutorials I've seen skip over these kind of details.

Best side quest in the fallout series?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 01:06 PM PDT

Maybe not the best one but 'the big dig' with bobbi from fallout 4 was a fun one. New set of power armour, mirelurk kings in the tunnels and a tricky decision to make at the end of it.

    What is your favourite dlc?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 07:15 PM PDT

Mine is the pit from fallout 3, just everything about it seems post apocolyptic. An army of raiders, ruling over slaves who work a massive steel mill, have a mutating cancer turning them into vicious animals over time. The atmosphere was great, the ambient sounds from the steel mill. You can either start a slave rebellion or join the ruler, a former paladin and rule with him. I honestly think that the Pit was the best dlc.

Looking for mod that has dynamic A.I where NPCS build, have perks, scavenge, and level up independently of the player

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 01:04 AM PDT

I've been playing Fallout 4 for almost 2 years now and I've loved every aspect of the game, but most of all I've liked the base building, I was wondering if there is some kinda mod out there that allows NPCS to build their own bases or perhaps even scavenge for resources and have perks as well. I've started playing another game that has this feature implemented called Subsistence(if anyone has played it here).

New Vegas possibly being delisted from Microsoft Store.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:45 AM PDT

I was looking through the Xbox deals and noticed that New Vegas had an absurdly long sale time of 44 days as of 9/1/2020. If you line that up, it would end on October 15, 2020 which is close to 10 years from the release date of New Vegas. My hunch is it's a music licensing issue that is forcing it to be taken down. I've never seen any game have that long of a sale time unless it was going to be delisted like the Forza Horizons so if you want New Vegas on Xbox, these next 44 days may be the last time you can get it digitally.

Speech, Skill, and Other Forms of Checks

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 10:46 PM PDT

I'd like to think in execution, Fallout 3 did Speech/Skill checks better than New Vegas.

Fallout 3 has a percentile chance when doing Speech checks, meaning room for failure. Even more, Charisma actually means something because even with a Speech of 100 but a Charisma of 1, you don't always get a 100% roll.

Their skill checks are also hidden. They tell you the Skill but only if you have the right amount. The ghoul in the Ninth Circle for example (I know the name I would just botch it if I tried spelling it) that has Charon's contract. With a Barter of 50 it gives you an additional way to get Charon's contract but you wouldn't see the option if you had low Barter.

And that's something I feel New Vegas did wrong, showing you the options. You should get rewarded for investing in a Skill rather than seeing what you missed out on, leaving, then coming back. It adds replayability as well, all new builds. Fallout 3 does the same with Perks and other Attributes like New Vegas did, but (Perks aside) Fallout 3 executed it better than New Vegas did IMO.

(FNV) What features/content from New Vegas were removed from the official release of the game due to limits of porting the game to console?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 07:52 PM PDT

To name a few, we all know the Vegas Strip was supposed to be open and not divided into sections but the console couldn't handle that so they has to chop down Vegas into parts..

Another one I noticed is that Cass was supposed to be the most talkative companion but they had to omit some of her voice lines. She had a banter and comment on most of the places you travel to and it's still in the files which can be enabled by the Cass Bark fix mod..

What other contents were removed because of console limits?

The New Vegas Strip is incredibly disappointing.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:53 AM PDT

In the opening of the game we see the strip as a bustling place with lights people on the streets and many buildings with their lights on. It seems like the place is full of life and activities to do and it truly seems like a pre war city but in my opinion, it feels empty and unfinished. There are just 3 casinos (minus the lucky 38), the ncr embassy, vault 21 and the radio station. Another thing that disappointed me is that the casinos only have 3 games that you can play. The strip compared to the opening and the art for the game feels tiny and boring. The only people you see are some drunk ncr soldiers and a few traders. Hell, Freeside has more personality and life than the strip which is supposedly the reason most people go to Nevada for. The casinos are practically empty which is ridiculous since that is were most people should be at you only see up to 5 people gambling and maybe 2-3 people at the bar area. Also why are there no big hotels? Or restaurants? Even if they were inaccessible it would have felt more alive. It would have been better if there were gangsters on the streets or if you were able to plan heists with other criminals instead it just feels like a place you go to just get quests from you favorite faction so you can progress the story not a place to just have fun or work for crime families.

Something interesting about Fallout 4 I noticed in the files

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:17 AM PDT

I was troubleshooting my fallout 4 bc it was crashing whenever I would quickload/ load and was looking through the files and noticed that some of the first creation club items were located in the fallout 4 data file I didn't own any so i was curious. They are all in .ba2 format and they have all the textures and function but no .esp although the main which would be a .esp file are formatted in .ba2. I'm just wondering if anyone can explain why these are here and if they can be formatted into a usable format. Overall interesting tho and hope i can get some answers just to see if i can look in further.

It seems that I am not the only one that has this problem and the only fix is, to change the game to borderless windowed mode, so i tried to change it but everytime i launch the game in windowed or borderless windowed mode i get the icon on my task bar and the music in the background but no visuals whatsoever. Help in Xbox1 Fallout 4

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:18 PM PDT

Since the recent update, I have been unable to start new campains. I have tried with and without mods as support. I get the black screen with the vault-tech loading symbol in the corner. The game never starts. I can't be the only one with this. I have a digital copy on XB1, with dlcs. Not enough money right now to get it on computer and go from there. Update: I double tapped "A" and it jumped right to character creation. ( after about 30 mins of waiting).
