Hey guys, just a little protip: All you're doing is setting yourselves up for disappointment by acting like a shrugging tweet from Obsidian means New Vegas 2/Obsidian Fallout is coming.

You're either gonna set your expectations wildly high and never have them realized like the folks who were utterly convinced Project Lousisiana was Fallout New Orleans for the past eight years.

Or worse- you get what you ask for and the Outer Worlds team makes you a fallout that's incredibly shallow, black and white, and lacking many aspects of what makes an RPG an RPG.

    Chill.

Fallout New Vegas, where are they now? A look into who is left from the original New Vegas dev team at Obsidian

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:51 AM PDT

Hey guys! Since I know we are all excited about the fact that the chance of a "Fallout New Vegas 2" isn't 0% anymore, I figured I would talk about who on the original New Vegas team is still around at Obsidian. I think many people don't realize that Obsidian is not just one dev team, it is actually split up into 3 to 4 separate teams depending on how many games Obsidian has in production. For example right now Obsidian has 4 teams in no particular order: Team 1 is working on Avowed, Team 2 is working on Grounded, Team 3 recently released The Outer Worlds and is currently working on it's DLC, and Team 4, headed up by Josh Sawyer, is currently working on an unannounced project that has been in development since the release of Pillars of Eternity 2 back in mid 2018.

Below I'll be going over the Lead developers and writers who worked on New Vegas, as well as what they have been working on since, and whether or not they are still at Obsidian. The titles next to their name correspond to the role they played in developing New Vegas.

Josh Sawyer: Project Director, Lead Designer, and System Designer (Still there)

John Gonzalez: Creative Design Lead, Lead Writer (No longer there)

    • Prior to New Vegas, John would be most well known for his role as the Lead Narrative Designer of Tom Clancy's EndWar over at Ubisoft, before joining Obsidian to work on New Vegas as the Lead Writer & Creative Design Lead. Following New Vegas, John left the company sometime after all of the New Vegas DLC was finished in order to go work at Guerrilla Games as the Lead Writer for Horizon Zero Dawn. He recently left Guerrilla in order to work at a new studio called Smilegate Barcelona, a spinoff of the South Korean developer Smilegate, where he is working on an unannounced AAA open-world game.

Chris Avellone: Writer (No longer there)

    • Prior to New Vegas, Chris would be most well known as the Lead Writer and Designer for Planescape: Torment and Kotor 2, as well as a designer for Fallout 2 and Icewind Dale 1 & 2. He was also the Lead Designer for the cancelled "Van Buren" also known as "Fallout 3" over at Interplay before their closure and sale of the IP to Bethesda. Following New Vegas, Chris would work as a writer for Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny before leaving Obsidian in 2015 to work as a freelance writer. As a freelance he would write for Torment: Tides of Numenera, Prey, Divinity: Original Sin II, Pathfinder Kingmaker, and Jedi: Fallen Order.

Eric Fenstermaker: Writer, Area Designer (Still there) (No longer there)

    • Prior to New Vegas, Erik was a writer for Neverwinter Nights 2. Following the release of New Vegas, as well as the departure of New Vegas Lead Writer "John Gonzalez", Erik would serve as the Lead Writer for South Park: The Stick of Truth, as well as the Lead Narrative Designer on Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2. He did not work on The Outer Worlds and is seemingly working on either Avowed, or the aforementioned unannounced game along with Josh Sawyer, most likely as its Lead Narrative Designer.

    • Edit: According to /u/ProfessorWheels comment below, Eric is sadly no longer with Obsidian following the release of Pillars 2. I'm going to do some more digging and try and figure out what Eric is currently working on.

Travis Stout: Writer, Area Designer (No longer there)

    • Prior to New Vegas, Travis's only credit is as an additional designer for Neverwinter Nights 2. Following New Vegas, he began work as an area designer for South Park: The Stick of Truth, but left during development to work on State of Decay as a designer. Since then Travis went to Ubisoft where he worked as a writer on Assassin's Creed Unity & Syndicate, and For Honor.

Joe Sanabria: Lead Artist (No longer there)

    • Following New Vegas, Joe was laid off from Obsidian in 2011 and currently works as a freelance artist as well as an adjunct professor over at Laguna College of Art and Design.

Scott Everts: World Building Lead (Still there)

    • A Technical/Level Designer on Fallout 1 & 2, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Scott would leave the defunct Interplay Entertainment in 2004 to join the newly formed Obsidian Entertainment. Here he would be a designer on Kotor 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2, before becoming the World Building Lead on Fallout New Vegas. Following New Vegas, his name does not pop up again until the release of The Outer Worlds, where he was one of 10 different Environment Artists that worked on the game. I'm not sure if he was demoted, or what he was doing in the interim between the two games but if anyone does know, please let me know as I was unable to find more info.

Mark Bremerkamp: Lead Animator (No longer there)

    • Prior to New Vegas, Mark would be most well known for being the Lead Animator on the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. At Obsidian he would work as the Lead Animator on Fallout: New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, and Pillars of Eternity. During production of Pillars, Mark left Obsidian and moved to Michigan in order to be closer to his family.

Charlie Staples: Area Design Lead, Lead Level Designer (Still there)

    • After New Vegas, Charlie would act as the Level Design Lead on South Park: The Stick of Truth, the Systems Designer on the cancelled Armored Warfare, and the Design Director on The Outer Worlds.

Frank Kowalkowski: Lead Programmer (No longer there)

    • Prior to New Vegas, Frank was a programmer on Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, and Kotor 2. And was the Lead Programmer on Neverwinter Nights 2. Following the release of New Vegas, Frank joined Blizzard as a programmer for World of Warcraft and has since been promoted to Technical Director as of the latest expansion pack, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

Now obviously this list is a mere fraction of the 100+ people who worked on the game, but I felt that focusing on the Lead roles (since they had the largest impact on the game), as well as the writers (Since New Vegas's script is so beloved) would be the best way to display the information without going overboard and listing dozens upon dozens of people. It was surprising for me to find out how few people from the New Vegas team actually worked on The Outer Worlds. That's likely why The Outer Worlds was so different from New Vegas, which is what many people expected it to play similar too. I think anyone worried however after reading this that Obsidian no longer has the talent they once had needn't worry since Obsidian has hired many new talented devs since, and also Josh Sawyer is still at the company and he played the largest role in the development of the game by far. Anyway, thanks for reading!

We all know who the REAL villain of Fallout 4 is.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:34 AM PDT

    It's not Kellogg.

It's not Father, Desdemona, or Arthur Maxson.

It's not Slag, Bosco, or Zeller.

    It's not the Mechanist.

It's not DiMA, Allen Lee, or Textus.

It's not Colter, Nisha, Mason, or the Black siblings.

The real villain of Fallout 4 is that BLOODY GUNNER with the Rocket Launcher in Greentech Genetics.

Who else wants to see the return of the Enclave in a Future Fallout Game?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:00 AM PDT

Let's be honest, the Enclave has always been an incredibly lore-rich and superbly interesting faction that has always had an immensely vast untapped potential. If not for the Enclave always getting screwed over in previous games, they could've very easily been an excellent faction to work with. Talking to the Enclave Remnants in Fallout: New Vegas in particular definitely exposed their more human side and perfectly demonstrated that they could most certainly be a compelling major faction in an all-new Fallout experience.

After all, we know for a fact that the Enclave has at the very least 1 known presence in Chicago and could very well have far more strongholds and bases somewhere within the vast expanse that is the still-relatively unexplored Post-War America. The Enclave would most certainly be a welcome change from the likes of the Brotherhood of Steel, which has always been shoved into every Fallout game that was ever made regardless of whether or not they were wanted there. All in all, I personally believe that the return of the Enclave as a major faction (with a more humanistic element, excellent writing and far more relatable, justifiable goals, mind you) would be a very wise move to make. A penny for your thoughts?

Anyone else having this daily op bug?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:25 PM PDT

I was doing a daily op with a friend and the final report said it was giving me three legendaries which I thought was odd. When I got out of the op I wanted to take a look at one of them and it wasn't in my inventory. Just checking if this has happened to anyone else.

Fallout 4 power armour hand mods

Do Tesla bracers and hydraulic bracers increase damage dealt by meele weapons? Or only work when no meele weapons are equipped? If it's the former which is better? If it's the latter is it worthless to craft or there are some other bonuses?

Could Fallout 3’s GECK be reused?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:12 AM PDT

Once the G.E.C.K. has been used to create the water purifier, could it (theoretically - ie not in game) still be reused to terraform the wasteland?

Since the G.E.C.K. in Fallout 3 seems a somewhat magical, almost god-like, device it seems a waste to have just used it on the water purifier. But now that the water in the basin is clean, is there any reason why it couldn't be reused for greater purposes?

Or is the answer ultimately up to my imagination?

All my weapons do insanely low damage [Fallout 4]

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:44 PM PDT

All of my weapons do insanely low damage. My 10mm pistol now does 2 damage. Every other weapon is similar 2-10. I've reset made new characters, without mods, nothing works.

FO 1 shower thought - stealing ruins the game. Conclusion - swiper no swiping.

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:47 PM PDT

Started the game, decided to bee line to V15 and skip sands. Wanted to beat on some extra critters for xp.

On my way back - I encounter a merchant heading to sands aaaand his 5 guards who are all armed with - hunting rifles. They all carry 50 bullets each + what's inside the rifle.

I trade away some junk for stuff I need and for the jollies save on a vacant spot and start a firefight.

They all have terrible aim and I actually manage to survive without using a single stimpack (with 5 hp but still)

And theeeeeen I decide... you know what? let's not kill em cause I wanna be a "good guy" and instead - steal every single thing on that map not nailed down.

Takes me 10-12 reloads to nail everyone and the merchant. I now have 500 223s, 5 rifles and a shit ton of loot.

Now. This lets me start the game with a good 6-7k worth of caps in tradeables.

I pick up Ian in sands, head to junk town to sell the stuff, save killian aaaaand steal from him.

I now have over 10k worth of stuff and I didn't even touch the safe or gizmo.

Stealing is bad, I should feel bad... but why does it feel sooooo good to get away with it?

    Fallout 4 Survival mode

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:11 PM PDT

Anyone else love the vunerable feeling you get when playing on Survival mode? Something about save-scumming, insta-heal and fast traveling really breaks the immersion for me after the first 20 levels or so in the base game. Survival is soo much more rewarding when you take down enemies that could easily one-shot you as well. Now if only the infamous crashes didn't happen after 43 mins of not being able to find a damn bed :/

[FO4] [PC] Are there any Children of Atom or Nucleus mods?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 03:44 AM PDT

I've been wanting to have a more detailed playthrough of FO4 and wished there was much more content around the Children Of Atom since i find them to be a very cool faction besides my fav faction of the Institute.

I found a few mods round CoA but mostly just clothing and not much content related stuff or even a CoA settlement stuff which i was interested in finding and things mostly around the nucleus location itself (doesn't have to be settlement related)

Fallout 4: Frost Mod HELP NEEDED

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 03:44 AM PDT

Hi guys, having some issues with fallout 4 frost. I've downloaded everything via nexus mod manager and it seems to have downloaded/installed all good. However when starting the game from the save file, I start in a bunker in Sanctuary Hills and the game is just the normal fallout 4 campaign, no frost campaign or the usual frost start.

When loading the save I'm greeted with a pop up saying "this save relies on content that is no longer present, some objects may no longer be available. Continue loading?" It then lists all the DLC's (since I don't have fallout 4 DLC's and at the bottom has FROST.esp.

Does anyone know why my save doesn't start like any other Frost save?

    Thanks

    Fallout 76 Question

My speculation about the TV series, please add yours.

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:43 PM PDT

I think it will be mix of drama, politics, and action similar to later seasons of The Walking Dead.

Desert type setting for that apocalypse scenery without having to spend too much.

At least one regular location like a vault or settlement where much of the filming will take place(shooting somewhere new all the time gets expensive and is time-consuming).

Minimal use of expensive special effects/makeup at first. We won't see much of the super mutants or things like the Prydwen. Not much power armor.

No vehicles or minimal use of vehicles. They won't want to look like Mad Max copycats.

The plot of the first few seasons will center around clean water.

There should be a quest to help Caesae choose a successor

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 03:39 PM PDT

One of the biggest cons of siding with the Legion in New Vegas is that, even if you can save Caesar from his brain tumor, he will die in a few years and an incompetent leader might take over the Legion.

If we had a quest, after "Et Tumor, Brute?", to help Caesar choose a sucessor, it would make that much much better.

We could get to know some of the best young men training to be legionaries, see what they think about slavery, the NCR, women rights, maybe even help them in doing some task. After that, we would recommend our favorite one to Caesar.

What do you think? What would the perfect successor be like in terms of personality and ideas?
