Just reached 100% in Fallout 4 to get my first ever platinum trophy on PS4! I've come close in a few games but I don't play online and most games you need to achieve online trophies to reach 100% and thankfully Fallout 4 doesn't have any online stuff. Thanks to those that gave me advice on getting 100% happiness in a settlement 🥰

Why the NCR can more than easily defeat the Legion in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, even without the Courier's help.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:45 AM PDT

As stated above, the following analysis will assume that the Courier died in Goodsprings, meaning there will be absolutely no interference from the player, at all.

First, let's start with an analysis of the respective weapons, equipment and gear of the respective ranks of the NCR and the Legion going into the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. Beginning with the NCR. The NCR Trooper comprises the core of the Republic's colossal armies and is the prime component of the NCR Army. A superb combination of volunteers and conscripts whose degrees of training, motivation, combat experience and access to equipment vary across the ranks, they're some of the most disciplined, most professional soldiers in all of the Wastes.

They're outfitted with modern military-grade ballistic vests that offer excellent protection against small arms fire, shrapnel and melee weapons alongside steel helmets. They're armed with 5.56 × .44mm NATO Service Rifles (for the average conscripted NCR Trooper) in addition to 5.56 × .44mm NATO Marksman Carbines, 5mm Assault Rifles, 12-gauge Riot Shotguns and .308 Sniper Rifles (for the battle-hardened, fully-trained volunteer veteran NCR Troopers).

Select elite units of veteran NCR Troopers can also be equipped with Laser Rifles, Plasma Rifles, Tri-Beam Laser Rifles and Multi-Plas Rifles, as well (though not anywhere in the Mojave Wasteland, mind you).

The NCR Patrol Ranger is one of the finest, most elite warriors in both the NCR military and the Wastelands, overall. Having survived a brutal training regimen that's so ludicrously difficult that 8-out-of-10 aspiring recruits wash-out, these purely volunteer harbingers of death have little to no equals in terms of skill, fighting prowess and strength.

They're outfitted with a suit of hand-made First-Generation Combat sporting a knife sheath, a hydration pouch and spiked spurs for unarmed combat that is impervious to any and all small arms fire, shrapnel and melee attacks. They're armed with 5.56 × .44mm NATO Marksman Carbines, .308 Sniper Rifles and .44 Magnum Trail Carbines.

The NCR Heavy Trooper is not only the elite heavy shock infantry of the NCR Army, but is also the proverbial sledgehammer through which the Republic may crush its enemies and obliterate all that may threaten its values.

Having earned their distinctive armor through immense sacrifice in blood, sweat and most of their young lives, they're the absolute best-trained, best-equipped, most battle-hardened, most professional, most skilled, most fanatically-devoted warriors in the whole of the NCR Armed Forces (rivaled only by the legendary NCR Veteran Rangers). Warriors that are more than willing to fight to their absolute last breath in defense of the Republic and all that it represents.

They're outfitted with NCR Salvaged Power Armor, suits of T-45d Power Armor that were captured from the Brotherhood of Steel during the Brotherhood War that have had their joint servomotors removed and their back-mounted power cylinders replaced with custom-built energy modules and built-in air-conditioning units so that Power Armor Training wouldn't be needed to wear them.

And while they're no longer legitimate suits of Power Armor in that they're no longer powered, they're still some of the absolute best and most protective suits of armor within the Republic's entire mammoth arsenal. Completely invulnerable to all but the most powerful conventional firearms, highly-advanced energy weapons, specialized ammunition and high-powered explosives, they can truly absorb Hellish amounts of punishment.

They're armed with 5.56 × .44mm NATO Light Machine Guns, 5mm Miniguns, Heavy Incinerators, Flamers and Missile Launchers (albeit rarely) with select hand-picked NCR Heavy Troopers having the honor of wielding the likes of Gatling Lasers, Plasma Casters, Gauss Rifles and even Tesla Cannons (though this is only the case back West, mind you).

The NCR Veteran Ranger is a living, breathing legend walking amongst the ruins and ashes of the Old World, drawing inspiration and hope from soldiers and citizens of the Republic as well as fear and terror from enemies and all those who dare to oppose the NCR.

Fabled for their unmatched fighting prowess, envied for their flawlessly unequalled marksmanship technique, feared for their unrivaled warfighting skills, awe-inspiring for their unsurpassed pugilist talent and legendary for their innate mastery over hardcore survivalist skills, the NCR Veteran Rangers are the absolute finest, best-trained, most battle-hardened, most professional, most skilled, most-elite and all-around most bad-ass warriors in not only the entire history of the Republic military, but also the whole of the Western Wastes, as well.

Centurions and Praetorian Guards of Caesar's Legion, Knights and Paladins of the Brotherhood of Steel and even the Republic's very own NCR Heavy Troopers have learned to shudder in terror and fear at the mere mention of the mythical phenoms of the Wastelands that are the NCR Veteran Rangers

These fabled guardian angels of the Republic are outfitted with the equally legendary Black Armor, a hyper-advanced suit of Third-Generation Combat Armor consisting of a highly-flexible vest of incredibly-rigid high-impact armored plating with adjustable straps on both the sides and the shoulders and a built-in throat protector that's mounted on the vest.

Combined with the state-of-the-art rounded-shell ballistic helmet sporting built-in lamps and infrared/visible light projectors as well as the complimentary highly-sophisticated armored mask with built-in low-light optics, an incorporated locking mechanism that joins the mask itself with the helmet shell, ear covers with built-in membranes that confer additional protection without inhibiting the wearer's hearing and built-in air filters, the mythical Black Armor is well-deserving of its stellar reputation.

As you can see, the NCR's forces are extremely heavily-armed, well-equipped and armed to the teeth with the absolute latest in top-of-the-line, high-powered firearms and state-of-the-art, highly-sophisticated energy weapons as well as superbly well-protected with an abundance of different varieties of military-grade body armors with varying degrees of effectiveness and even Power Armor (both Salvaged and fully-operational (though only back West)).

Now it's time for an evaluation of the Legion's weapons and technology. The Recruit Legionary is the primary foot soldier of Caesar's army and comprises the vast majority of the Legion's ranks. Trained and conditioned from before they could walk to become the perfect warriors, Recruit Legionaries are incredibly well-conditioned and in phenomenal physical shape, owing to a savagely intense training regimen that even the NCR Rangers would envy. Despite said conditioning, however, they're still the equivalent of literal cannon fodder with little-to-no actual skill in firearms usage and maintenance.

They're outfitted with a suit of makeshift featherweight armor that consists of sports equipment with bits and pieces of scrap metal atop a cloth tunic that's all lashed together with leather straps. An armor that's so weak that it couldn't even protect its wearer against the likes of a straight razor.

They're armed primarily with a "Machete" (what's really a lawnmower blade that's lashed to a stick) and "Throwing Spears" (what's really even bigger sticks with pieces of sharpened scrap metal fastened and jabbed into the tips), though they can rarely get their hands on firearms (albeit damn near broken ones) such as .357 Magnum Revolvers, .357 Magnum Cowboy Repeaters, 9mm Pistols, 20-gauge Single Shotguns, 20-gauge Caravan Shotguns, 5.56 × .44mm NATO Varmint Rifles and 10mm Pistols.

The Prime Legionary is the centerpiece of the Legion's fighting force and the core component of any Legion formation. Having survived 5 years in Caesar's forces, a remarkable accomplishment in and of itself, Prime Legionaries are no longer mere cannon fodder but are now the main frontline fighting force of the Legion. With the accompanying improvement in weapons and equipment as well as adequate firearms skills to make the promotion that much sweeter.

They're outfitted with the exact same armor as before, only with a slight improvement in protection. It still can't protect the wearer from shit, however. They're armed with the standard-issued "Machetes" and "Throwing Spears" though they also have much better access to more advanced weapons than before.

Melee weapons, such as Machete Gladius', Power Fists and Chainsaws, and firearms (of decent quality), such as 10mm SMGs, 12-gauge Sawn-Off Shotguns .44 Magnum Revolvers and .308 Hunting Rifles are all available to them in significant quantities.

The Veteran Legionary is the oldest, most experienced, most elite warrior within the lesser ranks of the Legion and is also the precise scalpel to the blunt, destructive warhammer of the Recruit and Prime Legionaries.

Having survived a full decade in Caesar's service, a monumental achievement in its own right, Veteran Legionaries are the elite rapid reaction force of the Legion that's tasked with neutralizing particularly tough adversaries that their lesser counterparts can't defeat and typically remain in reserve until otherwise needed for tipping the scales of a pivotal battle or campaign in the Legion's favor.

As they're the oldest Legionaries (a lot of whom have been with Caesar since day 1), they're also the most experienced, most capable Legionaries who are in their absolute prime in regards to martial prowess and physical resilience. They're second only to Centurions in terms of skill and experience, which is reflected in their improved access to superior weapons and equipment. They can also use and maintain firearms with frightening levels of efficiency.

They're outfitted with the same armor as before, though with even better protection. Still couldn't protect you from anything meaningful, though. They're armed with the usual standard kit in addition to melee weapons such as Fire Axes and Power Fists as well as firearms (of mint condition and with virtually unlimited access to) such as .44 Magnum Revolvers, .308 Hunting Rifles, 5.56 × .44mm NATO Marksman Carbines and 12.7mm SMGs.

The Decanus of the Legion is the lesser officer beneath the Centurion and is responsible for tactical small-unit operations and squad-level leadership. While not too different from ordinary Legionaries in terms of skill, equipment and even appearance, they still have slightly better access to weapons hence they deserve a separate segment.

Recruit Decanii can get access to 9mm SMGs and 10mm SMGs unlike Recruit Legionaries, Prime Decanii aren't any different from Prime Legionaries and Veteran Decanii can get access to 12.7mm Pistols unlike Veteran Legionaries (not a real improvement, I know). Everything else is exactly the same.

The Centurion is the absolute apex of the Legion's strength and the top field commanders of Caesar's armies, second in authority only to Legate Lanius and Caesar himself amongst a tiny select few of other superiors.

Having survived 15-20 years of a long, arduous life of fighting in Caesar's name (a completely unimaginable phenomenon, indeed) before finally earning the treasured armor of the Centurion (which they can decorate with the trophies of their fallen enemies at their leisure), Centurions are the absolute most elite, most skilled, most battle-hardened and ultimately the most dangerous warriors in the entirety of the Legion.

To even BEGIN to qualify for Centurion status, one must have fought in and survived numerous Legion campaigns as well as slain countless opponents in battle alongside the time requirement. All to ensure that only the finest of Caesar's warriors ever reach that level of authority in his Legion.

As the oldest, most experienced warriors in Caesar's army, the Centurions comprise the old guard of Caesar's army, most of them having served their lord since the very beginning. Their status all but ensures that they're reserved for only the absolute deadliest, most lethal of assignments that even Veteran Legionaries can't handle. They're ultimately only deployed if absolutely necessary.

In order to ensure that his Centurions can both accomplish their missions without even the slightest chance of failure and protect themselves without difficulty, Caesar has granted them unlimited access to the absolute finest weapons in his Legion's arsenal and has seen to it that they have acquired the absolute sharpest firearms skills that money can buy as a corresponding reward for their reaching Centurion status.

They're outfitted with Centurion armor which, while legendary amongst the Legion, really isn't that special. It's actually just Veteran Legionary armor with some cool decorations on it at the end of day.

Pieces of T-45d Power Armor on the right arm, the sleeve from a suit of NCR Ranger Patrol Armor and the pauldrons from an Armored Vault Suit on the left arm, the boots and shin guards from a suit of First-Generation Combat Armor on the lower legs, the crotch/thigh guards from a suit of NCR Ranger Patrol Armor on the upper legs, gloves from a suit of Leather Armor on the hands and a Super Mutant Brute chestplate on the torso, to be exact.

Realistically speaking, Centurion armor would be just about useless against virtually any weapon in the NCR's arsenal. Even a single 5.56 × .44mm NATO round fired from a basic Service Rifle could most certainly do the job, flawlessly.

They're armed with basic melee weapons such as Machete Gladius' and Chainsaws as well as high-tech melee weapons such as Thermic Lances (which are actually just repurposed metalworking tools) and Super Sledges in addition to powerful firearms such as .308 Hunting Rifles, 12-gauge Hunting Shotguns, 5.56 x .44mm NATO Marksman Carbines and even .50 BMG Anti-Materiel Rifles (albeit rarely).

Now that we've got that order of business out of the way, we must now examine what will inevitably be a huge problem for the Legion going into this bout. The Legion, even though it does in fact have access to some top-of-the-line weapons, only has them in an extremely limited capacity and strictly reserves them for only the highest-ranking, most elite Legion forces and field commanders.

The overwhelming bulk of the Legion's troops have little-to-no real firearms and what pitifully little that they can get their hands on are in extremely piss-poor condition. Not that it would matter, considering the fact that they don't have the proper training that's necessary to actually use them, much less maintain them.

The vast majority of Caesar's troops rely almost entirely on primitive makeshift melee weapons and their own martial prowess to fight their battles, which inevitably means that the Legion has to avoid direct engagement with NCR forces, instead relying on subterfuge and guerilla warfare to combat the Republic.

And it gets even worse for the Legion when one considers that the higher that its troops advance up the totem pole, the fewer Legionaries that it finds at the higher levels. A direct consequence of the Legion's overprioritization of quality and individual skill in combat is that it inevitably results in an extremely small cadre of elite warriors and field commanders surrounded by a sea of lesser soldiers and officers.

Combined with the fact that the Legion is only 34 years-old by the events of F:NV (meaning that even if one were to ignore things like inevitable attrition all throughout the Legion's war-filled history of expansion and conquest, they still wouldn't have that many Veteran Legionaries/Decanii and Centurions) as well as the fact that attrition over the years must be taken into account (the First Battle of Hoover Dam and the Legion's invasion of Colorado alone absolutely devastated their elite ranks), it's only obvious that the Legion's elite forces are relatively puny.

Furthermore, we know for a fact that there's enough Veteran Legionaries/Decanii for them to form a few of their own exclusive Centuria (a Century is 80-men-strong, I might add), with the Red Okie Centuria being a prime example of this. This definitely suggests that the Legion has at least a couple hundred Veteran Legionaries/Decanii at its disposal. As for Centurions, it's a little known fact that they're so incredibly rare in the Legion that they're actually explicitly ordered to not enter combat until absolutely necessary (i.e self-defense or if they're ordered into battle by a superior).

This, along with the fact that they're never really seen in any meaningful numbers in-game until the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, strongly suggests that there might only be at most several dozen Centurions in the whole of the Legion (there definitely wouldn't be over 100 of them). Either way, however, the Legion's elite forces are so pathetically tiny that they couldn't possibly justify the Legion having any meaningful amount of high-end weaponry.

The NCR, on other hand, doesn't have these problems as 1. the NCR prioritizes protection and firepower above all else for their forces and 2. even their most basic troops have exclusive access to essentially unlimited supplies of all manner of firearms and explosives as well as highly superb protection in the form of military-grade body armor.

Meaning that the NCR not only has a hopelessly insurmountable edge in firepower, technology and protection over the Legion, but that soldiers of the NCR also have a far higher life expectancy than their Legion counterparts, as well. All but ensuring that the NCR has a vastly higher volume of surviving battle-hardened combat veterans relative to the Legion that enables for the Republic to easily distribute extremely invaluable, ultimately irreplaceable combat experience and lessons learned in battle across the entirety of their military to a far greater extent than the Legion.

Scores of battle-hardened NCR Troopers that distinguish themselves on the battlefield go on to enlist with the NCR Rangers upon receiving an invitation to do so (fun fact: the vast majority of NCR Ranger recruits and even NCR Rangers themselves are/were NCR Troopers who earned their new status while serving in the NCR Army), earn the coveted Salvaged Power Armor and become NCR Heavy Troopers or earn promotions to positions of authority in the NCR Army (prime examples being Colonel Cassandra Moore and Colonel James Hsu). All of the above information will have colossal consequences for the Legion going into the battle, at the end of the day.

Now for one final issue before we get into the battle itself: the minor factions and the fates of both Mr. House and Benny. With the Courier dead and both the NCR and the Legion being incapable of completely altering the geopolitical landscape of the Mojave Wasteland on their own, what roles would the minor factions and Mr. House/Benny play in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam?

Well for starters, the Boomers will remain absolutely neutral and avoid the battle entirely given that the Courier (who is canonically the only person who can survive their artillery barrage) never earns their allegiance. The Mojave Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel will never have its lockdown lifted and will never have its fear of the NCR suppressed without the Courier's help, meaning that it will also remain neutral and never leave Hidden Valley.

And as there isn't anybody outside of the Courier who is capable of wiping them out, the Mojave Chapter will also survive until the battle is over. The Great Khans will still retain their alliance with the Legion without the Courier's involvement, but, as the Great Khans are little more than a shattered, decimated tribe to begin with due to both the Bitter Springs Massacre and the fact that Mr. House kicked their asses before that particular incident, they can't do much more than offer a single war party to assist with the Legion assault on Hoover Dam (who only ever intended to use them as mere cannon fodder, anyways).

The Followers of the Apocalypse might convince themselves to support the NCR considering the alternative, but that would matter little considering just how useless they are as a faction. The Fiends will still have all of their leaders but Motor Runner assassinated by the NCR (I find it impossibly difficult to believe that Alpha Squad of NCR First Recon couldn't kill Driver Nephi, Cook-Cook and Violet on their own, but I digress), therefore crippling the Fiends and effectively shattering their strength as an organization.

The Kings will continue to be hostile to the NCR, an act that will effectively condemn them to extinction as without the Courier's involvement, Colonel Moore would have free reign to deploy an entire squad of NCR Troopers to Freeside and exterminate them without even the slightest effort. An act that will in effect intimidate the people of Freeside into "respecting" Republic authority.

The Omertas will still be able to plan and prepare for their coup de'tat against Mr. House on the Strip without the Courier's involvement, though they'll ultimately be able to make little difference in the fight due to a major development (more on that here, soon) in favor of the Republic. All in all, the geopolitical situation in the Mojave Wasteland seems to favor the NCR more than the Legion, at the end of the day.

As for Mr. House and Benny, neither of them will be capable of challenging the NCR and the Legion with any realistic chance of success without the Courier's assistance. Without the Courier, Mr. House has no means of reacquiring the Platinum Chip from Benny without either prompting Benny to flee or causing him to destroy it out of spite, for instance. Still, even assuming that Mr. House is by some miracle able to recover the Platinum Chip without the Courier's help, there's a massive series of hurdles to his plan that'll all but doom them to failure.

Upon recovery of the Platinum Chip, Mr. House will have to find someone who can infiltrate Fortification Hill and slip past what essentially amounts to the ENTIRE Legion in order to enter the Securitron Bunker and survive its internal defenses before uploading the Mk.II Operating Software to the Securitron Army within. However, as that only upgrades the Securitron Army, there will still be plenty of work to be done.

The next step will be to infiltrate the El Dorado Substation, easily the absolute most vital and most important Republic installation in the entirety of the Mojave Wasteland outside of Hoover Dam itself (this is where all of the power that's generated by Hoover Dam is transmitted across the Mojave Wasteland and even to the Republic Core Regions themselves, after all) and plant an override module in the power control terminal within.

Doing so is not only necessary to jumpstart the Lucky 38's nuclear reactor and make the New Vegas Strip completely energy independent, but is also required to grant Mr. House enough broadcasting power to remote control the Securitron Army outside of New Vegas, as well. However, considering the grave importance of this location to the Republic, it's obviously extremely well defended by Republic troops. Meaning that anybody trying to get inside without authorization will be in for one Helluva fight.

Last, but not least, Mr. House and his new henchman have to find a way to infiltrate Hoover Dam itself and make their way into Hoover Dam's control center where they must plant an override chip that will channel the energy from Hoover Dam that's required to finally activate the Securitron Army. To do so, however, they'll have to get past THOUSANDS of elite Republic soldiers that are currently defending Hoover Dam, with the control center itself being protected by 2 elite NCR Heavy Troopers. All I've got to say to that is good luck.

And the best part: Mr. House needs to have all of this done BEFORE the Second Battle of Hoover Dam erupts. The fact that Mr. House will have a deck stacked against him just searching for a new protege ALONE will all but ensure that he won't have enough time. Meaning that Mr. House is as good as screwed.

Benny, of course, will have to deal with the exact same hurdles as Mr. House, but with the added difficulty of finding a way to infiltrate the Lucky 38, get past Mr. House's defenses and assassinate Mr. House so that he can upload Yes Man to the Lucky 38 mainframe and seize control of the Securitron Army for himself. And given that Mr. House has already caught on to Benny's scheming, we all know just how impossible that will be for Benny.

In short, neither Mr. House nor Benny are in a position to intimidate the NCR into retreat and wipe the Legion from the face of the Earth for good. Without the Securitron Army, none of this is even remotely feasible. It isn't to say that Mr. House can't play a role in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, however. Indeed, if the Courier did die in Goodsprings, that would mean that the Lucky 38 never gets unsealed and still remains closed off to the outside world.

Meaning that neither the NCR, the Legion nor Benny can kill him and that he'll remain alive to participate in battle. Even without the Securitron Army and the Mk.II OS, Mr. House would still have dozens of Mk.I Securitrons armed with 9mm SMGs and Gatling Lasers at his disposal. And while such an army is hardly strong enough to make Mr. House an independent player, it could still play a major role in the coming confrontation at Hoover Dam.

How so, some might ask? Simple: if Mr. House is no longer capable of establishing the New Vegas Strip as an independent domain of his own, he'll throw in his lot with the Republic, instead. Now why would he do such a thing, some would say? Doesn't he absolutely abhor the NCR? Yes he does. HOWEVER, if he was forced to make a decision between the NCR and the Legion taking over New Vegas, he'd undoubtedly choose the NCR.

Mr. House is hardly an idiot. He knows full well that "allying" himself with Caesar would be tantamount to a death sentence given that he'd inevitably betray him and try to have him killed. Nevermind the fact that his precious New Vegas Strip would be effectively run into the ground by the Legion once they take it over. The NCR would be a much better alternative by comparison.

The reason: they don't hate him enough to want him dead regardless of his decisions and are more than willing to negotiate with him as well as actually honor their word. All Mr. House will have to do is give in to the Republic's demands and allow the NCR to formally and officially annex the New Vegas Strip and vow to support the NCR against the Legion during the looming engagement. In exchange, the NCR will let him live and leave him in nominal control of the New Vegas Strip.

Something that's not entirely without precedent given the fact that this was originally going to be an option for Mr. House in-game before it was cut from the final version of F:NV. Even Caesar himself will go on to admit that Mr. House WILL back the NCR if it comes down to it which is exactly why he wants the Courier to assassinate him. With Mr. House firmly at the side of the NCR, victory for the Republic over the Legion is all but guaranteed.

After all, his Mk.I Securitrons will be an enormously invaluable asset to the NCR by shouldering the burden of the defense of New Vegas. For example, the Mk.I Securitrons can single-handedly stop the Omertas' coup on the New Vegas Strip due to both their superior firepower and the fact that Mr. House already suspects that they're up to no good (though he admittedly doesn't know about the coup).

They can also single-handedly maintain order in Freeside by effortlessly containing any potential anti-NCR riots there in addition to playing a huge role in protecting Outer Vegas against the Fiends (who will already be little more than lambs to the slaughter due to the loss of most of their leaders, but I digress). Just imagine all of the Republic troops that would be freed up for the defense of the frontline thanks to Mr. House and his actions. This alone would all but hand victory to the Republic on a silver platter.

And now, without further ado, the epic showdown of military might that is the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. The Legion's strategy for their assault on Hoover Dam is simple: their main force will launch a full-scale assault on the NCR's defensive positions on the surface of the Dam as a diversion whilst small Legion infiltration teams will use the intake tunnels and towers to enter the Dam's power plants so as to both spark confusion and disarray amongst the NCR's forces and to assassinate General Oliver.

An act that will completely shatter the NCR chain of command and force the NCR to withdraw from the Mojave Wasteland so as to reorganize and regroup (Legate Lanius himself strongly stresses that this last part is absolutely vital to a Legion victory at the Dam and is the only way for the Legion to defeat the NCR). The Legion infiltration teams will initially catch the NCR fire teams guarding the power plants off guard and have an early advantage but in the end they'll ultimately fail in their primary objective.

General Oliver's Compound is extremely well-defended with force fields, a turret system, NCR Veteran Rangers, NCR Heavy Troopers, elite NCR Troopers and an absolute labyrinth that's filled to the brim with all manner of booby traps ranging from rigged shotguns, bear traps and mines of all types to grenade bouquets and overhanging objects.

And given that you see a pile of fresh Legionary and Centurion corpses at your feet whenever you enter the Compound during the "Veni, Vidi, Vici" quest it's more than safe to assume that Oliver's as safe as a house and that the Legion will be unable to assassinate him. Therefore losing the battle in the process.

Meanwhile, the NCR fire teams in the power plants eventually snap out of their state of confusion and begin to fight back, slowly but surely wiping out the Legion infiltration teams. Mike Lawson, the NCR's chief engineer of Hoover Dam, then proceeds to activate the intake override system in Power Plant 3, directing an NCR Veteran Ranger to turn the main override valve out in the exterior of the Dam before running to safety.

Once this is done, the intake tunnels and towers are now completely cut off and the Legion is no longer able to use them, with any and all Legionaries and Centurions still within being shredded into hamburger. Trapped and permanently cut off from reinforcements, the Legion infiltration teams are completely wiped out by the NCR fire teams thus dooming the Legion assault on the surface to fail.

On the surface, intensive sniper fire has prevented the Legion's main force from advancing not to mention that the NCR has managed to seal off the intake towers on the western side of the Dam so as to prevent the Legion from using them (as evidenced by the "Veni, Vidi, Vici" quest). Meanwhile, elite NCR Troopers, NCR Heavy Troopers, NCR Veteran Rangers and NCR Patrol Rangers are mowing down wave after wave after wave of Legionaries and Centurions.

Sustaining massive losses and unable to advance even an inch, the main force resumes its diversion until learning that their infiltration teams had been wiped out and that General Oliver still lives. Realizing that all is lost, the Legion braces itself for their inevitable defeat while NCR reinforcements finally arrive from Camp McCarran in preparation for the NCR's counteroffensive. With fresh reinforcements and the power plants secured, General Oliver gives the order for his troops to mount a massive counterattack against the Legion, routing them and destroying them permanently thus securing victory for the NCR at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.

Of course, this is only discussing the battle on Hoover Dam itself. As with the first battle, the Legion will be striking the entire frontline across the full length of the Colorado though unlike the first battle, the Second Battle of Hoover Dam will engulf virtually the entire region. Now let us examine the battle outside of Hoover Dam, shall we?

The Legion will be mounting simultaneous assaults on Camp Golf and Camp Forlorn Hope that will coincide with their primary attack on Hoover Dam. As confirmed by the NCR Emergency Radio Broadcast, the NCR Rangers will successfully defend Camp Golf regardless of whether or not the "Flags of Our Foul-Ups" quest is completed. Furthermore, thanks to Mr. House's contributions to the defense of New Vegas, Camp Forlorn Hope will be able to successfully repel the Legion attack there with relatively few casualties.

A combination of Alpha Squad's redeployment to Camp Forlorn Hope from Camp McCarran upon the successful assassination of ¾ of the Fiends' leaders, the fact that Camp Forlorn Hope is later reinforced with NCR Heavy Troopers and NCR Veteran Rangers and Mr. House's Mk.I Securitrons handling the bulk of the defense of Outer Vegas against the Fiends all but guarantees it.

The Omertas will launch their coup on the New Vegas Strip and bomb the NCR Embassy but an alert Mr. House and his Mk.I Securitrons should be able to effortlessly massacre them without much trouble. The Fiends launch an all-out assault on Outer Vegas, concentrating the bulk of their strength on Camp McCarran. The loss of Driver Nephi, Cook-Cook and Violet as well as an extremely powerful defense by a small concentration of NCR forces and Mr. House's Mk.I Securitrons results in a ridiculously one-sided slaughter in favor of the NCR and Mr. House, however.

Anti-NCR riots erupt in Freeside in retaliation for the slaughter of the Kings but they're easily crushed by Mk.I Securitrons. The Legion Frumentarius Picus is able to successfully bomb the Camp McCarran Monorail, preventing the NCR from reinforcing the New Vegas Strip in time for the Omertas' coup. It will have absolutely no effect on the battle given that Mr. House is perfectly capable of crushing the coup alone, though. With all of the above information, I do believe that it's very safe to say that the NCR also wins the battle outside of Hoover Dam, as well.

In conclusion, the NCR wins the Second Battle of Hoover Dam without question. The reasons as to why that is boils down to the following. The NCR has an ultimately hopelessly insurmountable edge in firepower, protection and technology over the Legion that by itself completely fucks them over, the NCR has a far larger concentration of elite forces defending Hoover Dam than the Legion has attacking Hoover Dam, the geopolitical landscape of the Mojave Wasteland tilts in favor of the Republic and the NCR just has vastly superior allies compared to the Legion.

At the end of the day, the Legion just doesn't stand a chance. Here's some sources for verification:

Full definitive guide on how to play fallout 1,2,3,NV and 4 on chrome OS

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:04 PM PDT

A few of you may remember me from my plan on trying to run fallout 3 on android which was a year ago. That plan failed and my android phone broke and I got an iPhone instead (which sucks). But this time I finally got results worth sharing and all full step by step walk through on how to do it. Note you should have your device in dev mode.

This only works on x86 machines, haven't tried arm yet

Firstly you should update your chrome book to the latest version of chrome OS, should be easy as there should be a notification telling you to update it.

If your Chrome book is up to date skip this step. Once you select to update the chrome book it should restart and bring back to the lock screen.

Once those steps are completed, go to settings and on the left side you should see "Linux (Beta)" (should be at the bottom above "advanced") select that and it and it will ask you to create a partition and make it 20+GB if you're going for fallout 3 and NV. If going for 4 make it 40+GB. Once that you're done that it should take about 10 or so minutes to install. Once that installs a new window should pop up called "Terminal" and should have this symbol ">_".

Now it's time to update your drivers. First you type this- sudo apt update . With that, it will show you everything that needs to be updated. Then you will type - sudo apt upgrade . It will ask you [Y/n] for the upgrade and just type "Y" and then press enter. Congratulations you have now installed Linux on your chrome book

Now it's time to add GPU acceleration. In the search bar type this- chrome://flags/#crostini-gpu-support and enable the flag. Once you do that you are prompted to restart your device and do that.

Now run "sudo apt-get update" . Now run "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" if that doesn't work then type this instead "sudo apt-get install mesa-utils". Once you do that restart your device and once you're back into chrome OS, enter the Terminal and type "glxinfo -B" to test if it's set up. You should now look for "OpenGL renderer string virgl". And also look for "OpenGL ES profile version string: OpenGL ES 3.2 Mesa 19.2.8" if you find that, it is installed and you now have GPU acceleration.

One more little thing to to do to make using steam and fallout a bit more easy going on you. Go to your search bar and type "chrome://flags". Once you're in there search for " Pointer lock for Linux applications". Once you select that you will be prompted for a restart and just restart your chrome book.

Now it's time to install steam. Did I forget to say that it's the steam version we have to use, oh well, I guess we have to suffer a bit. Now go to chrome and search for "store.steampowered. com/about/" unsure about adding links so the .com has a space between it so just use one backspace between the . and the com. Or click [here](store.steampowered.com/about/) . Once you're on the website underneath the "INSTALL STEAM" with the windows logo, thre should be the Apple logo and steam logo. Click the steam logo and you should get a .deb file. (Important Must be a .deb file) (unsure about arm powered devices running steam)

Now you go to files and downloads and right click on "steam_latest.deb" (or whatever it's called on your device). Once you do that, click on "Install with Linux (Beta)" a window will pop up asking you to install with Linux and you should click on OK at the bottom right corner(should be in blue). A notification will pop up showing you the install of steam in the bottom right hand corner. Once it installs go to your app draw and find a folder called "Linux apps" steam should be in there. Click on it and it should download the necessary files for steam just like the pc version. (About 200ish Mb). After it finishes downloading, just sign in normally and you're almost finished.

Fallout 1/2 are already supported by steam on Linux and steam will download "Proton 4.2" that allows them to work natively on Linux. To get fallout 3,NV and 4 to work go to settings, go down to "steam play" and click on "Enable Steam Play for all other titles" and it doesn't matter what version of Proton you select as it automatically downloads the correct one you need.( that's what happened in my case)

If you completed all these steps in order and had no problems then, these games can work on your device, note that they may be a bit choppy and laggy but it's a chrome book and our expectations of them are pretty low. Also depending on your storage, the loading time will very. EMMC storage is the slowest and ssd/Nvme are the fastest. I hope this helps and if you have any information that could help others let me know and I'll update this guide and I'll do my best to answer every question you have.

    Best of luck ~Pete

An estimation of the size of the Legion.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:44 AM PDT

This has been a subject of debate ever since F:NV first came out. Estimates of the Legion's size have ranged from a mere several thousand to a mammoth hundreds of thousands (one rather far-fetched estimate that I've come across is 800,000-strong).

I am here to not only provide my own estimate (which, again, is an ESTIMATE, nothing concrete), but also to shed light on just how unrealistic it would be for the Legion to expand beyond the upcoming estimate. My own estimate has the Legion at about 5,000-strong by the events of F:NV. 8,000-strong if one wants to be extremely generous to the Legion.

The basic reasoning for my estimate is that the Legion is essentially just one large roving tribe of slave warriors that sustains itself by either conquering and assimilating other tribes or by simply breeding its own soldiers. Combined with the fact that the Legion is only a mere 34 years-old and the fact that the Legion is literally a bastardized copy of an ancient Roman legion of the late Roman Republic (which typically numbered in the estimated range that I've provided), it just wouldn't make any sense at all, whatsoever, for the Legion to expand beyond my estimate.

However, as this apparently isn't a strong enough case for some Legion supporters, allow me to delve into my much more specific case as to why that is. Let's begin with the fact that the Legion has conquered 87 tribes by 2281. According to Legion supporters, the Legion consists of all 87 tribes and therefore has all of their combined strength. However, not every tribe that the Legion conquers is assimilated, as some have actually been completely exterminated down to the very last man, woman and child (with some exceptions).

Tribes that have been known to have been exterminated include the Ridgers tribe, the Twisted Hairs tribe (Ulysses was the sole survivor that managed to avoid such a fate), the Twin Mothers tribe and 5 other unnamed tribes. Combined with the fact that the 87th tribe is such a recent conquest (Caesar himself isn't even aware of its fall) that it can't be included (its fate being entirely unknown, after all), that's 9 tribes that can't be included in the official tally. Of course there could very well have been other tribes that were exterminated but, for the sake of discussion, let's just assume that the Legion only has 78 tribes to its name.

Now we examine exactly how the Legion assimilates conquered tribes. When a conquered tribe is assimilated, only those that the Legion deems worthy of slavery and useful are spared. The able-bodied men, male adolescents and male children are taken to be trained as Legionaries whereas the women and girls are taken to be breeding stock (which is extremely shortsighted in that it costs the Legion potential soldiers). Everybody else (the elderly, the sickly and those men, male adolescents and male children that are either too weak or too old for Legionary training) is put to the sword.

Furthermore, attrition from fighting off the Legion's forces would further lessen the amount of troops that the Legion could harvest from conquered tribes. Meaning that at the end of the day, the Legion won't be acquiring too many soldiers from the conquest and assimilation of other tribes. Especially in just a 34-year timeframe.

There's also the issue of lack of modern medicine and any real medical knowledge in the Legion. Having to get by on extremely primitive tribal remedies (i.e Healing Powders and Bitter Drink), the Legion has an incredibly difficult dilemma on its hands in relation to treating battlefield injuries and breeding future Legionaries.

Basic bullet wounds and shrapnel cuts that might otherwise be treated by a Stimpak or a Doctor's Bag all but doom a Legionary to an otherwise easily-avoidable death due to either infection or execution at the hands of their comrades (nobody "retires" from Legion service, after all).

Lack of RadAway and Rad X means that Legionaries could needlessly die from overexposure to radiation when such a fate could be easily avoided. Much more complex injuries (which are extremely common when going up against heavily-armed, well-equipped adversaries, I might add) that might require limb amputations and life-saving surgeries are well out of the expertise of Legion healers, meaning that death from their wounds or summary execution by their comrades is a certainty for Legionaries.

Without access to modern medicines, life expectancy in the Legion is extremely piss-poor to the point to where sustaining an army outside the range of several thousand warriors would be all but impossible. As for breeding, the lack of proper medical expertise and modern medicines ensures that extremely high infant mortality rates (50%-75% by my calculations), child mortality rates (60%-85%, by my calculations) stillborn rates and miscarriage rates are an inevitability.

With the vast majority of children born in the Legion dying before they're even born or before they even take their first step, the Legion couldn't possibly raise an army above the thousands range, even with the conquest and assimilation of other tribes into the Legion's ranks. A mere 34-year timeframe most certainly wouldn't allow it.

We must now examine the sheer brutality of how Caesar turns men and boys into Legionaries. If one manages to survive the fall of their tribe to be enslaved or manages to survive birth and infancy in the Legion, they must now survive the grotesquely severe tribulation that is Legionary training. A process so deadly and lethal that even NCR Ranger training (which is so intense that 8-out-of-10 prospective recruits wash out) is left deeply wanting in comparison.

Only in the Legion, there's no such thing as "washing out". You either get through the training, or die trying. Most Legion prospects will ultimately prove to be too weak and perish, with only a select few surviving long enough to finally become a full-fledged Legionary.

When combined with the fact that this will be a long, arduous process that spans across many years or decades (depending on when one exactly begins the training) and all of the other aforementioned limitations and inhibitions, it's only obvious that the Legion couldn't possibly surpass my estimate. It most certainly couldn't be done in only 34 years

There's also the issue of life expectancy in the Legion to consider, as well. Aside from the aforementioned obstacles to a higher life expectancy above, yet another such obstacle is the Legion's own structure. Even if one survives the conquest of their tribe, the assimilation process, birth/infancy/childhood in the Legion and Legionary training, they must now survive the crucible that is the life of a Legionary. Or, to be more specific, life as a Recruit Legionary.

As a mere recruit of the Legion, one is extremely shoddily equipped and all but helpless in the face of any meaningful adversaries. Outfitted with an armor that's so light and ineffective that it can't even protect its wearer from a straight razor and armed only with crude blades, makeshift spears and only a massively meager handful of obsolete firearms that are just about broken, Recruit Legionaries are used as little more than expendable cannon fodder.

Cannon fodder whose sole purpose is to either overwhelm an opponent through sheer weight of numbers or at the very least weaken an opponent so that the older, more experienced higher-ranking Legionaries can finish what they started should they fail. Such a structure means that most Legionaries won't survive past a year (as even basic tribes could more than easily kill Recruit Legionaries en masse, nevermind more powerful enemies) in their service to Caesar.

Alongside the fact that a Recruit Legionary has to survive 5 years in order to advance in rank and status (meaning better access to better weapons as well as a higher chance of survival) to become either a Prime Legionary or Recruit Decanus, the other aforementioned problems above all but ensure that the Legion couldn't possibly build a force above several thousand warriors in only 34 years.

Then there's also the issue of the actual size of the tribes that the Legion conquers and assimilates. You see, tribes in the Fallout universe are quite often tiny family-sized units that rarely, if at all, exceed 100 members in total. Aside from the fact that they suffer from all of the Legion's own problems, but on a far more massive scale due to their far smaller size and much more primitive nature, there's also the fact that trying to survive in an irradiated, inhospitable post-apocalyptic Wasteland is a gargantuan task.

Especially for extremely primitive tribes and tribals. The Wastes are filled to the brim with hostile wildlife (i.e. Deathclaws, Cazadores, Night Stalkers, Yao Guai, etc. etc.), that's constantly trying to kill you, radiation, Raiders and bandits that are always looking for someone to rob, rape and murder and so very much more that make basic survival, let alone expansion, virtually impossible for just about everybody, most particularly tribes.

On top of all of that, tribes have to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where fresh, clean drinking water that isn't irradiated is all but impossible to find and where food is extremely scarce. Furthermore, due to lack of anything that's even remotely close to an education, tribes have to subsist on hunting and gathering their food (agriculture would be well beyond their capabilities without a proper education, after all). Not bad if one's focused on basic sustainability, but if expansion is what one is after, then it just wouldn't be realistically sustainable.

In addition to these problems is the fact that tribes almost always never get along with each other and are constantly warring against each other accordingly. Meaning that when combined with the other aforementioned issues, inter-tribal conflict will definitely serve to cull numbers and keep tribes well below the 100-mark.

We know for a fact that inter-tribal warfare and all-around chaos was the norm in Arizona, which was essentially Hell-on-Earth prior to the Legion's rise to power there. All in all, we can safely conclude that the tribes that the Legion conquered weren't even 100-strong, meaning that when attrition, the assimilation process and extermination are taken into account, it would make perfect sense for the Legion to be within my estimate within a 34-year timeframe.

Last, but not least, we examine the inevitable attrition that would come with the Legion's 34 years of non-stop territorial expansion and tribal conquest, most particularly their war with the NCR. Let's begin with the attrition associated with the Legion's expansion prior to 2277, the year in which the First Battle of Hoover Dam occurred. Quite a few of the 66 tribes (only 64 of which were assimilated) that the Legion conquered before 2277 didn't go down without a fight and actually almost defeated the Legion before ultimately being defeated.

One such example is the unnamed tribe that Vulpes Inculta conquered to earn his promotion to head of the Frumentarii. The battle was going very poorly for the Legion and was nearly lost until the then-Decanus (rank and status unknown) Vulpes Inculta spotted a hole in the enemy tribe's defenses, led his unit through said hole and captured the tribe's chieftain. His actions are ultimately what won the battle for the Legion that day.

And while it isn't known how exactly the Legion's conquest of the other tribes went down, it could be safe to assume that there were plenty of other tribes that offered similar, if not even greater, degrees of resistance and that the Legion's conquest and pacification of the East was long, arduous, hard-fought campaign that saw immense loss of life for the Legion. Something that even Legate Lanius, who is only a very recent member of the Legion, admits to.

As for the attrition that came after 2277, it was even worse for the Legion. The First Battle of Hoover Dam in particular was absolutely shattering for them. Aside from being the absolute worst defeat in the Legion's history, it was so massively costly and destructive for Caesar that had the Divide Incident (which saw the NCR's primary supply lines nuked), not occurred prior to the battle, the NCR could've very easily completely annihilated the Legion.

It took 5 years and the conquest of 20 tribes (only 15 of which were assimilated; not including the 87th tribe) before Caesar was finally confident enough to return to Hoover Dam in preparation for yet another confrontation with the Republic. Another costly victory for the Legion was the conquest of the Hidebarks tribe, the tribe of the future Legate Lanius. Still recovering from their disastrous defeat at Hoover Dam, the Legion immediately took advantage of the breathing room afforded to them by the Divide Incident by searching for new tribes to conquer and assimilate.

The first of these tribes would be the Hidebarks tribe. Long story short, the tribe took several months for the Legion to conquer owing to the fact that the future Legate Lanius would single-handedly ambush and slaughter entire Legion patrols for sport.

Eventually, the Hidebarks were cornered and forced to surrender. Legate Lanius was given both his trademark mask and his new name and title in exchange for being allowed to kill all of the surviving adult males in the tribe (meaning fewer warriors for the Legion to harvest, I might add).

Combined with their catastrophic defeat at the First Battle of Hoover Dam, the Legion's conquest of the Hidebarks tribe definitely served as a rather sizable impediment to the Legion's growth in the 5 years preceding the events of F:NV. The final example of post-2277 attrition for the Legion was their invasion of Colorado sometime between 2277 and 2281. When Legate Lanius led his forces into Colorado, all he found was a barren, lifeless, completely inhospitable wasteland.

A wasteland that was completely bereft of towns, communities and settlements in which the Legion could rest and acquire additional supplies, tribes through which the Legion's ranks could be replenished or even flora and fauna through which medicine, food and other basic necessities could be extracted.

By the time that the Legion finally reached the ruins of what was once the city of Denver, their forces were completely exhausted and worn out. Tired, hungry, thirsty and deprived of energy, they were further disheartened to find that Denver was even more Hellish and nightmarish than the rest of Colorado.

Not only was Denver completely bereft of civilization and useful flora and fauna, but it was entirely overrun by swarms upon swarms of feral hounds that would attack everything and everyone on sight, including themselves. Everyone other than the first semblance of human life that the Legion finally encountered in Colorado: the Hangdogs tribe.

Unfortunately for the Legion, however, the Hangdogs refused to submit to Caesar's authority and resisted with a fiery passion. Using their innate mastery over animal bonding to turn the hounds of Denver against their Legion foes as well as extensive guerilla warfare tactics, the Hangdogs initiated a brutal war of attrition against the Legion that lasted years and also exacted massive casualties on Legion forces.

Combined with supply lines that were stretched thin beyond their absolute breaking point across hundreds of miles worth of brutal, completely unforgiving terrain (making it nigh impossible to bring in additional reinforcements and supplies from outside Colorado) and the complete lack of tribals as well as accessible means of sustenance anywhere near Denver, the Hangdogs and their canine Allies were easily able to turn the Legion campaign in Colorado into a catastrophic disaster.

Even by Legate Lanius' own admission, the campaign nearly broke the strength of the Legion and almost flat-out failed. In fact, Legate Lanius was only able to "defeat" the Hangdogs by playing to their spiritual superstitions. You see, the Hangdogs not only viewed the hounds of Denver as means of sustenance and survival, but also as friends, family and even spirit animals.

They held immense respect for their hounds, bordering on religious worship. Legate Lanius eventually figured that out and hatched a plan. By capturing several Denver hounds and burning them alive right in front of the Hangdogs' camp, he deduced that the Hangdogs would believe that the hounds would not only burn to death in agony in this world, but that their spirits would continue to burn in eternal torment in the spirit world as well, causing them to finally surrender.

His plan, unfortunately, worked like a charm. The Hangdogs' elders, unwilling to see their beloved spirit animals suffer an eternity of fiery torment, surrendered the whole tribe to Legate Lanius. And with their surrender, the Legion's conquest of Denver was finally complete. However, the immense costs in blood and treasure ultimately rendered the campaign completely worthless.

The Legion's severely enormous casualties were so catastrophic that the Legion was actually forced to halt all further campaigns and territorial expansion for several months until they could recover (as if the First Battle of Hoover Dam wasn't enough to deal with) and in the meantime, the Legion ultimately gained nothing of any value from the campaign, either.

While the Hangdogs were assimilated into the Legion, given their talents in animal husbandry, to become beast masters that would be responsible for breeding, training and conditioning the Legion's own warhounds, such a useless, worthlessly trivial gain in no way compensated for the Legion's devastating losses in Denver. Even the conquest of Denver itself was all but useless to the Legion.

The city is still hopelessly overrun with hordes of hounds (as confirmed by dialogue with Antony at the Fort and Ulysses) and offers no practical benefits to the Legion aside from enabling them to harvest some of its hounds for their own use. The Legion may have conquered some territory in Colorado leading up to and including Denver, but they ultimately gained nothing of value from it. Especially in light of their enormous losses.

So not only did the Legion have little in the way of time and not only was it dealing with conflicting priorities that limited the amount of troops and supplies that could be spared for its invasion of Colorado, but it also suffered severe casualties and spent years conquering an area that was of almost no value to it, as well.

And given that the Legion was still more or less recovering from their cataclysmic defeat at the First Battle of Hoover Dam at the time, such a disaster couldn't have come a moment too soon for Caesar. As you can see, attrition throughout the Legion's 34-year history of warfare all but guarantees that the Legion can't have an army that numbers beyond several thousand troops.

Throw in the fact that the Legion practice's an extremely savage form of discipline that includes rituals such as decimatio (an event that sees both a unit's leader and every tenth man beaten to death), the fact that Legionaries will commit suicide to either avoid captivity or evade a brutal execution by the Praetorian Guard, the fact that homosexuality is forbidden under penalty of death (breeding and procreation are absolutely vital to the Legion's continued existence, after all) and the fact that Legionaries actually have mandatory quotas on exactly how many children that they have to have within a specific set of time (definitely indicative of just how difficult it is for the Legion to replenish its ranks) my point is made.

With all of the above information, it can be safely concluded that the Legion's strength is at most 5,000-strong, 8,000-strong if one wants to be incredibly generous.

Here's some sources and even direct quotes from J.E. Sawyer himself alongside the rest of the developers for verification:

Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide Collector's Edition p.459: "Rebirth of the Son of Mars

The adolescence and young adulthood of the man who calls himself Caesar were spent as a scribe of the Followers of the Apocalypse. While this boy had a quick mind, he made for a scribe of uneven ability, for his success in academics was equal to his interest in the subject assigned.

Nor was he a favorite among his fellows. Though athletic, handsome, and petulance held him back. He never felt that he belonged among the Followers, and blamed them for it. Their rigorous devotion to scholarship was stifling, their mission to ensure that humanity would never repeat the mistakes of the Great War was ridiculously naive. The boy longed for something more.

When the time came for the boy to leave the Boneyard and trek the wastes as part of a nine-person expedition, wanderlust soon curdled into disappointment. The primitive conditions of the tribes the expedition encountered disgusted him. Inferior people all, wretched in their squalor.

Still, he seemed to discern, amid the chaos of their petty struggles and everyday atrocities, the true order of the wastes-and it was one of anonymous, amoral liberty. The wastes called to the boy as a blank slate upon which a man of will could write his own destiny.

During the same period of the time that the boy was coming to these insights, the expedition uncovered a cache of well-preserved historical texts. Among with adventure fiction and comic books, history had always been his favorite subject, and so the task of cataloguing and studying the texts fell to him. Though the boy had long been aware of basic facts concerning many ancient empires, these new texts filled in many previously obscure details.

Reading The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire rendered him a veritable hermit for two weeks. But even that could not have prepared him for the Commentarii, the account of the military campaigns of Gaius Julius Caesar, written by the man himself. Reading Commentarii changed the boy's life.

Unfortunately, it was destined to change the lives of thousands more, and for the worse. In Gaius Julius Caesar the boy found a man who seemed to have fulfilled the full measure of potential greatness allotted to him by fate, a man whose career spanned political accomplishment and military achievement in equal measure.

Such adventure! And intrigue! And cool uniforms! The boy's frustrations with his lot in life gained sharp focus. In reading about Caesar, he was like an ant scurrying about the feet of a regal statue. He resolved that he would go to any lengths necessary to change the course of his life. The Commentarii would be his blueprint. In an illiterate, benighted world, who would ever know that Caesar was not his original creation?

That night, Caesar offered a different sort of assistance to a tribe his expedition had contacted recently: weapons, medical supplies, and tactical expertise. He led several tribal accomplices back to the expedition's camp and through its defenses, and there oversaw the murder of his eight fellows. Within a week he was leading the tribe on ever more ambitious raids against neighboring bands of raiders and tribals." (Behind the Bright Lights & Big City)

Joshua Sawyer on Forumspring February 8 2011: "What's the premise for Caesar's Legion being so sexist, esp. in a world where Ranger Stella can mangle bodies daily in the Arena? Is it just breeding issues? Cause even the abominably sexist Romans were not that sexist, and Caesar is a smart man.

Breeding issues are pretty huge in cultures that took a big step back from infant mortality progress made in the last 100-200 years. Prior to the last few centuries, infant mortality was often around 50%-ish. Child mortality (prior to age 12) was about 60%. Those are pretty awful odds of reaching adulthood.

Remember that Caesar's Legion is basically a roving army that continually breaks down and absorbs tribes that it conquers. That can only go on for so long, and Legionaries who are indoctrinated from birth are even more loyal than adolescents who are integrated. Breeding new generations of Legionaries is vital for the Legion's continued existence.

Even though breeding is incredibly important in the Legion, there isn't any concept of family outside of the Legion's structure. All of the places where the player encounters the Legion are forward camps where direct military service is given the most weight and is of the most immediate importance. Because only males are involved in that service, they look down upon females even though it's incredibly short-sighted."

J.E. Sawyer (source): "Edward Sallow created Caesar's Legion as an imitation of the Roman Legion, but without any of the Roman society that supported the Roman Legion. I've written this before, but there are no optimates, no populares, no plebes, no equestrians, no patricians, no senate, no Rome.

There's no right to private property (within the Legion itself). There's no civil law. There aren't even the ceremonial trappings of Roman society. Legates don't receive triumphs following a victory. No one in the Legion retires to a villa in Sedona.

It's essentially a Roman legion with only the very top commander having any connection to the "source" culture, the rest being indoctrinated conscripts from cultures that were honestly less well-developed than anything in Gaul. Gauls are pretty sophisticated compared to the 80+ tribes.

Gauls could read the Latin or Greek alphabets (Gallic language, obviously), had extensive permanent settlements, roads, calendars, mines, and a whole load of poo poo that groups like the Blackfoots never had.

What Caesar gave to those tribes was order, discipline, an end to internecine tribal violence (eventually), common language, and a common culture that was not rooted in any of their parent cultures.

The price was extreme brutality, an enormous loss of life and individual culture, the complete dissolution of anything resembling a traditional family, and the indoctrination of fascist values. Caesar's Legion isn't the Roman Empire or the Roman Republic. It isn't even the Roman Legion. It's a slave army with trappings of foreign-conscripted Roman legionaries during the late empire. All military, no civilian, and with none of the supporting civilian culture."

J.E. Sawyer's Formspring: "Soldiers in Caesar's Legion don't have personal freedom. They "get" to fight and die for Caesar. It's not a volunteer military, though many legionaries are born or raised into it, so they are effectively brainwashed."

The Courier: "Caesar's dead. What more do you need?"

Chief Hanlon: "The Legion is more than just Caesar! It's got the momentum of thousands of men behind it. They're not just going to roll off into Arizona if we give them a good shove.

The Courier: "What happened to Graham after Hoover Dam?"

Chief Hanlon: "Losing the dam was the worst defeat the Legion ever suffered. Graham had been with Caesar since the beginning, but he had to set an example. The praetorians covered Graham in pitch, lit him on fire, and down into the Grand Canyon he went."

The Courier: "I'm guessing you don't like Caesar very much."

Joshua Graham: "Love the sinner, hate the sin. With Caesar, it's often very difficult to see through all of that sin to the person inside. I can say that we were both lucky that NCR's supply lines and land routes north of Mojave Outpost were destroyed before the Battle of Hoover Dam.

Something bad happened near Death Valley, at a place called the Divide. NCR couldn't cut across anymore and it slowed down their reinforcements. Terrible storms ripped entire companies apart before they even got to Nevada soil. The aftermath of Hoover Dam could have been even worse for Caesar."

The Courier: "Who is Legate Lanius?"

Ulysses: "Lanius... the "Butcher." {Somber, recognizes name}Monster, Terror of the East. Not even his slaves have seen his face - struck them blind so they can't. Wears a mask, don't even know if it's the same man. He put Colorado to the sword, broke the Hangdogs by throwing their hounds upon the flames, so they might burn forever in the afterlife."

The Courier: "I hear you were a slave of Caesar's Legion."

Jimmy: "What Marco said is true. The Legion attacked my village when I was 16. My parents were killed as examples. The rest of us, chained and dragged to some kind of camp. A Centurion there chose me as his tent servant. He was handsome, and gentle, most of the time.

Said it was our secret, and he'd protect me. Gave me little gifts, stupid things. But Caesar punishes homosexuality with death, and we nearly got caught, and there were suspicions. So when he took me out into the desert... Well, I knew he was going to get rid of me. So I kicked him where it counts and I ran. And then swam. And ran some more. Wound up here."

The Courier: "Sounds like life in the Legion is tough."

Jimmy: "It's tough on both sides of the fence, really. I think women have it worse. They're like money, given as rewards. Breeding stock. Honestly, as long as men meet obligations and the child count, "friendships" are a sight more equal than the level of most Legion husbands and wives."

The Courier: "How did you end up joining the Legion?"

Antony: "When the Legion showed up, we fought, most tribes did. Hangdogs hung out longer than most... {beat}broke us by throwing our dogs on the fire. So we gave up, our elders couldn't bear the idea of our spirit animals burning in the afterlife. Still, Caesar was impressed enough to conscript us, use our skills with dogs to join the Legion as houndmasters."

The Courier: "Tell me about the Burned Man."

Vulpes Inculta: "Ah, yes {you know his name}- we are forbidden from speaking his true name. He was a shaman of some kind before he met {KAI-zar}Caesar, a holy man from out of the Utah. The Burned Man proved dangerous, unpredictable, and impossible to kill. He helped {KAI-zar}Caesar form the Legion but almost led it to destruction."

The Courier: "As Legate, do you really believe that, or are you taking a chance?"

Legate Lanius: "Hnh. {Beat} Long ago... when taking Denver, I had to face such a challenge. Many died, over many years to claim the city as ours. It was the lines of food and water that nearly broke the Legion's strength... and the lack of tribals near that cursed city. What I felt in that struggle, I felt as I saw the map of the West. The West is a trap. The bear has already been caught in it, and it is dying."

The Courier: "Eventually - but moving your whole army West means losing the East. You can't hold both."

Legate Lanius: "The East was a hard-fought campaign. Even now, Caesar drew too much of the Legion's blood needed there for... this. Hoover Dam is but a place. I will not have it be the gravestone of the Legion - whether quickly, or as you describe, slowly... by attrition."

The Courier: "Lanius will lead the assault on Hoover Dam?"

Caesar: "Yes. This time my Legionaries will be more frightened of the commander behind them than the enemy before them. There will be no failure this time, no retreat, no years of gathering slaves and resources for another assault. With {Lah-nee-OOS}Lanius to drive the Legion forward, the dam will be taken. It will be our {slight beat}bridgehead across the Colorado."

The Courier: "Tell me about Vulpes Inculta."

Caesar: "Vulpes is the best of my {Froo-men-TAR-ee}Frumentarii. A remarkable individual from an unremarkable tribe south of the Utah. He was brought into the Legion as a boy, survived training, fought well enough as Legionary to be promoted to the rank of {deh-CAN-us}Decanus.

Then, in battle against an {dismissive}unimportant tribe, he broke ranks and led his {con-too-BUR-nee-um - a Roman squad}contubernium through a hole in their defenses to capture its chieftain. Well, his {ken-too-REE-on}Centurion wanted him crucified for disobedience. So I made him a {froo-men-TAR-eye} Frumentarii."

The Courier: "I've heard rumors of your legate, Lanius. What's his story?"

Caesar: "Lanius is the greatest of my battlefield commanders. Some might call him a great man, but I'm not sure he qualifies. Once, he was the greatest warrior of the Hidebarks, a tribe of the Arizona. Maniacal in battle. Sometimes he'd ambush Legion patrols {emphasis}by himself.

When, after several {emphasis, usually campaigns are faster}months we found and surrounded the Hidebarks' camp, their Chieftain raised a banner of surrender. The warrior who was not yet {Lan-ee-OOS}Lanius went insane with rage. {a pleasing memory}He struck down his Chieftain and attacked his own tribe."

The Courier: "What happened when Lanius attacked his own tribe?"

Caesar: "He killed fifteen before they brought him down. He didn't die, obviously. I had him tended to. He was {beat}maimed, most of face torn off. It was days before he regained consciousness.

When he did, I went to his bedside and showed him the helmet I'd had forged to cover his face. I said he could have it if he'd fight for me. He accepted... on condition that he be allowed to kill the surviving males of his tribe. {chuckle}I said, make it the {emph}adult males and you have a deal."

The Courier: "He sounds more like a savage than a general."

Caesar: "Lanius is savage. Savagely loyal, too, but only to me - he has no love for my Legion. But this has its uses. He has no attachment to his men, no compunction about battlefield losses. All he cares about is destroying the enemy.

When another legatus or a {Ken-TOO-ree-on}Centurion fails to achieve results, I send {Lah-nee-OOS}Lanius to make things right. His first step is to beat the failed commander to death in front of his assembled troops. Then he orders the ritual of {deck-ih-MAH-tee-oh}decimatio."

    The Courier: "What is "decimatio?"

Caesar: "It means "decimation," but in ancient Rome the word had a very specific meaning - a punishment for cowardice. The Legionaries are lined up in ranks. Every tenth man steps forward and is beaten to death by his brothers. It instills a certain... robust obedience."

[NV] first time playing through, and just had some questions about end game

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 06:48 PM PDT

    1. Will I be able to play the game after Hoover Dam? Or will my save be wiped.

    2. Is there anything I should get before doing Hoover dam? (Other than speech and/or barter 100)

    3. Is there a level I should be at before doing Hoover dam?

Keep in mind I'm going for the independent Vegas ending. If any of these answers would spoil the ending, I don't mind. As long as lonesome road isn't spoiled, I don't care.

An estimation of the size of the overall NCR population and the NCR military.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:58 AM PDT

The following analysis is a mere ESTIMATE based on real-world equivalencies and available Fallout lore, just so you know. NOTHING that is about to be said is in any way, form or fashion concrete. With that out of the way, let's begin, shall we?

The New California Republic Armed Forces would number at about 500,000 strong (150,000 in active service and 350,000 in reserve) with an overall NCR population of 2.5 million+ to support it. Here's an explanation as to why that is.

In the time between 1780 and 1850, when the First Industrial Revolution began, the population of Great Britain (where the First Industrial Revolution originated and was confined to for many decades) experienced an 11 million increase from 7.5 million to 18.5 million in the course of 70 years.

And this was achieved despite smallpox and measles epidemics, people living in grossly unsanitary, overcrowded conditions and very unsafe, dangerous working conditions. Furthermore, a great many advances in the fields of medicine, technology, agriculture and, obviously, industry helped to facilitate a massive increase in birth rates and, believe it or not, a massive decrease in death rates (though Britain's overall death rate was still pretty high by modern standards, it was still definitely far lower than the rest of the world prior to the 1820s) as a result of the First Industrial Revolution.

Advances that included, but were not limited to the world's first smallpox and measles vaccines, the world's first modern railroad technology, the Watts engine and the world's first steam-powered technologies. All of which originated in Great Britain during this time and were exclusive only to Great Britain until the 1820s.

The First Industrial Revolution also paved the way for newer, far more effective ways of cultivation of farmland and agricultural planning, which in turn resulted in a major increase in the availability of food as it became cheaper and numbersome very quickly. Not to mention that railroad transportation further increased the availability of food by improving the speed and scale through which it could be delivered.

Steel working and mining quickly became the cornerstones of the British economy as a direct result of the First Industrial Revolution and served to attract many British families to the cities in search of work, which in turn resulted in the populations of British cities exploding. Third-class families also tended to have more children so that the women of these families had more help with maintaining the household which further increased Britain's overall population.

Now we look at the NCR in 2241, which had a massive population of 700,000+ citizens (not including transients and non-citizens, by the way) at the time, had an absolutely enormous military that already had several DIVISIONS (meaning TENS OF THOUSANDS) at its disposal and was experiencing the most prosperous era of its history under the leadership of the greatest President that the NCR has ever had in its history, President Tandi. A brilliant, benevolent genius who did more to unite the Wastelands than any other leader before or after her and is without a doubt the greatest leader in the entire history of the post-apocalyptic world.

Under the Tandi Administration, the Republic dedicated and focused all of its time, energy and resources towards its infrastructure; President Tandi actually spent all 10 terms of her presidency (52 years in office to be exact) improving and expanding and perfecting the infrastructure, industry and agriculture of the NCR, to be more specific. Her actions involved, but were in no way limited to, clearing off roads and railroads as well as repairing railroads to operational condition and even constructing entirely new roads and railroads.

The Tandi Administration also set about constructing military bases, forts and outposts for defense as well as restoring pre-War factories and weapons foundries to operational condition as part of its mammoth infrastructural overhaul and expansion. An expansion that would also entail the construction of entirely new factories and weapons foundries as well. Furthermore, the Tandi Administration's efforts would lead the Republic to work extensively with the Followers of the Apocalypse to painstakingly recultivate massive tracts of arable farmland for agricultural purposes.

Such rigorous efforts, performed on such a Herculean and ultimately completely unrivaled scale, would easily enable the Republic to attain innate mastery of agronomical sciences and agricultural planning. All of which definitely suggests that the Republic's infrastructure then was truly a sight to behold and that by now is just unimaginable. And the best part: the growth and development of NCR infrastructure didn't stop with President Tandi's death in 2248 as there's clear evidence that the NCR is planning to expand their railroad networks into the Mojave Wasteland in 2281!

Furthermore, there's also the matter of the Republic's annexation of Vault City in 2242(?). An event of titanic importance which granted the NCR unlimited access to organ cloning technology, performance enhancement implant technology, armor grafting technology and Auto-Doc technology amongst innumerable other highly-advanced medical technologies. Not to mention the ability to mass-produce the aforementioned technologies along with stims, superstims, Rad-X, RadAway and other modern medicines, as well.

All the research behind the aforementioned medical wonders and the brains behind said research would also come within the grip of the Republic as a direct result of this grand moment in post-apocalyptic history. And it wouldn't be surprising in the least if President Tandi and the Followers of the Apocalypse worked together to create Vault City medical technology-based research and production facilities of their own in Republic territory. All for the express purpose of mass-producing the aforementioned technologies as it would break the NCR's dependence on Vault City for such glorious treasures.

Then there's also the possible annexation of San Francisco and its rulers, the Shi, to consider as well. If such a monumental event were to have occurred, it would have granted the Republic access to all kinds of technological marvels. Marvels that would've included a new kind of fuel synthesized from plant extracts and sea life as well as the means of producing and properly transporting the fuel, all of the Shi's research regarding nuclear power (which was said to be nearing a breakthrough) and a unique kind of vine capable of removing radiation from an area entirely in addition to so much more. While the ultimate fate of San Francisco and the Shi has never been verified, it would've served the Republic quite well if both were brought into the fold.

Now we have the rise of the Brahmin-Barons and the Agri-Barons, who have all but monopolized agriculture in the Republic. While their monopoly has made it very difficult for the little guy to get by and has resulted in a surge of corruption in the government, it has also made food far more available and served to bolster the Republic's already-bulging food supply even further. Especially given that the Brahmin-Barons and Agri-Barons established their monopoly by selling massive quantities of meat and crops for dirt cheap prices, prices that small-time farmers and ranchers were unable to compete with, and maintain their monopoly by continuing to do so.

Now for the summary. The monopoly of the Agri-Barons and the Brahmin-Barons as well as the Republic's monstrous agricultural output would all but guarantee that the food supply of the NCR would be adequate enough to support a population boom similar to that of Great Britain's between 1780-1850. Not to mention that the Republic's railroad networks would see to it that food and other basic necessities will become very easily available, which in turn would further contribute to a population boom.

And the industrial might of the NCR (which is colossal at least in comparison to the other societies of the post-apocalyptic world) would definitely result in a major surge in the Republic's overall population, just as it did in Great Britain between 1780-1850. The medical technology of Vault City and the technology of the Shi would definitely see an unprecedented rise in overall birth rates and an immense decrease in overall death rates just as surely as Republic industry would. Not to mention that radiation could have potentially been all but purged from the West completely in the event that the Shi joined the Republic, further contributing to the population boom.

And the best part: the NCR isn't dealing with the problems that Great Britain endured between 1780-1850 (crippling epidemics, unsanitary, overcrowded living conditions and highly-dangerous, life-threatening, piss-poor working conditions) or at least there's no proof that they are. And the technology of the NCR is far ahead of Great Britain's between 1780-1850, being exclusively modern or postmodern. British technology at the time, on the other hand, was highly primitive and mundane, especially by modern standards.

With all of this in mind, if 1780-1850 Great Britain could manage an 11 million increase in population within 70 years, even with all of their disadvantages, then the 2241 NCR can manage a 1.5 million increase (the true population of the NCR back in 2241 would've easily been in excess of 1 million+ if both transients and non-citizens are taken into account) as well as a massive troop surge within its armed forces within 40 years.

    Fallout 5 Fan Concept.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:10 AM PDT

NOTE: THIS IS ALL ORIGINAL CONTENT, THIS IS NOT A RUMOR OR LEAK FOR FALLOUT 5. MERELY A SUGGESTION.
Story: The player is a vault dweller who is assigned with the task of scouting out the Alaskan wasteland for a reciently opened vault to see if anyone is still alive out there. This vault was an experiment in the effects of isolation from the outside world in a disaster, so they had no idea if anyone survived out there. The scouting team leaves and finds a surviving settlement. There they learn that the New Plague has returned and is devistating the local population of Alaska. But they are ambushed by raiders and only the player survives the ambush. Coming back to the vault the player sees that the vault was killed by an unknown aggressor. The player goes on a quest to find the ones responsible and seek vengance.
Factions: Fallout 5 would have seven different factions the player could join. Most are joinable, some are not. Beware that joining one faction may make another hostile and necessitate their destruction.
Red Claw Raider Gang: One gripe I had with Fallout 4 was in inability to join a raider gang in the base vanilla game and fight the other factions with them. The raiders operate the same way they did in the other games, operating through sheer brutality towards those not in their gang. Note that joining this group will make you enemies with the settlers and wastelanders and vice versa. They will start off hostile until you can kill their leader and take over. Note that the other raider factions will remain hostile even if you join the Red Claw due to fighting over resources and land.
Wastelanders: Groups of people who are trying to rebuild society or at least trying to make an honest living. They start off neutral unless you join The Kleptocrats or The Red Claw. They are not hostile to the Thule or the Egoists. Technically you are a part of this faction in the beginning and can stay a part of it unless you join a faction that the Wastelanders hate such as the raiders or the Kleptocrats.
The Kleptocrats: The main antagonists, a megacorporation made up of the profiteering survivors of head companies and government officials that existed pre war. Their goal is profit at any cost. They desire to horde resources so eventually the whole New York wastleland will be under their authority. You will be hated by every other faction if you join the kleptocrats. Most of them are ghouls, or humans who were mutated by the rad-flu. Their troops mostly joined joined for the shot that stops further mutations from the rad-flu.
The Thule: An occultist group that still exists to this day post-war, some had relatives in the group, others joined with them. This faction would be the most difficult to play since they are hated by many in Alaska. Other than the Kleptocrats and the Hunters, all other factions will be hostile if you join this faction.
The Hunters: A contract mercenary group. There is not much more to it than that. They do not seek direct conflict with other factions, only killing for their contracts. Beware: If you attack the other factions outside of a Hunter contract, you will be kicked out of the faction for causing hostilities. The Egoists: Inspired by the philosophy of Jack Steiner (Max Stirner in real life). The Egoists seek to destroy all other factions so people can live as individuals. Joining Egoists will make all other factions hostile.
The Oathkeepers: A group of doctors and scientists who are trying to cure or create a vaccine to the New Plague. Most of the Kleptocrats' mercenaries and troops were infected and have suffered from hidious mutations. You will become hostile to the Kleptocrats if you join this faction. Since the Kleptocrats are using the rad-flu to enhance the combat efficiency of their troops.
    Factions you cannot join:
The Loyalists: A group of robots who deny the nuclear war ever happened. Trying to enforce their last orders, to continue fighting the war. (Since you are not a robot you cannot join) Weapon Type: Energy weapons
Other raider gangs: The Red Claw are the only raider gang you can join, all others are hostile. Weapon type: pipe, ballistic
Super Mutants: Since you are not one, you cannot join. Weapon type: ballistic, heavy weapons, melee
Feral Ghouls: Since you aren't a feral ghoul, you cannot join. Weapon type:melee
Rogues: The remnants of destroyed factions, must be eliminated to take the territory. Weapon type: random
Chinese Reminant: You cannot join this faction because you were not a part of the Chinese army pre-war. They use Russian weapons such as Aks and RPGs.
New game mechanics: Disguise: If the player is wearing a gas mask or face covering, they will not be recognized by witness of an attack. You will get a unique mask if you join the Hunters since all the hunters wear unique masks.
Territorial Control: The Pip Boy will have colors on map locations to indicate which faction controls the territory. Each faction has a base (said base can only be destroyed via player quest) that when destroyed will destroy said faction turning all the territory they own into "rogue zones" meaning that you will find the remaining troops of that faction there they will not try and take over other territories and must be eliminated to take the territory. Eliminating all the rogues there will take the territory. The more locations your faction controls. The more recruits you have, making defense of settlements eaiser.
Faction benefits: Each faction's purchasable armor and weaponry has perks to it.
Red Claw Raider Gang: Since they are raiders, their weapons and their armor starts out poor, but since you can capture weapons from the other factions this can quickly be remidied. Weapon type: Ballistic, Pipe
Wastelanders: Their weapons and armor start out poor also, but if you stay friendly with the Wastelanders you can improve their weapons by selling them better ones. Weapon type: Ballistic, Pipe
The Egoists: Their weapons are strong along with their armor since they believe in the value of the individual. Weapon Type: Radiation.
The Kleptocrats: The Kleptocrats view their troops as investments so they invest highly in them. The Kleptocrats have the best weapons in the game and average armor. The Kleptocrats are cheap so they think if you cannot survive with the advanced weapons, you aren't worthy in serving in their army. Weapon type: Dark Energy (Pulse)
The Thule: The Thule have the most powerful armor and the second best weapons with the exception of the STG-50 a powerful assault rifle. Weapon type: Ballistic
The Hunters: The Hunters have both average armor and weapons since they operate covertly and are neutral with the other factions. Weapon type: Ballistic (can capture enemy weapons while in mid combat)
The Oathkeepers: The Oathkeepers are scientist and doctors, they try to avoid combat. Their grenades and mines are the best in the game, their armor and weapons are average. Type: Plasma
Late plot spoilers: When the player breaches the "Ivory Tower" a large structure and the base of the Kleptocrats, they will find the ruins of an old ship inside. This ship is the USS Innsbruck. A pre-war ship launched in 2053 in order to test teleportation. What the crew did not know was that the ship's true purpose was to test time travel in order to go into the future and bring back a vaccine. The Innsbruck had passed through time and space, collecting several powerful pieces of technology (most of which were reverse engineered by the Kleptocrats) These Kleptocrats allow the player to use the mini-teleporter they are testing to see if it works and to send the player back to save the vault residents. The player finds out they were set up by the Kleptocrats to test the technology. The Kleptocrats were the ones who ordered the attack on the vault. The player repels the attack and goes back to the Ivory Tower with the option to join the Kleptocrats or to destroy the Kleptocrats and take the vaccine to the Oathkeepers. Ensuring the survival of the Alaskan people.

After deciding that the brotherhood were a bunch of racists, it went up to the Prydwen for the first time and killed everyone. But Preston won't leave the room where Elder Maxon gives his speech, I don't know how to help him.

Out In Left Field signed baseball bugged

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:33 PM PDT

Doing the Out In Left Field quest and I go to the Westing Estate. I find the catchers mitt, the baseball card, but no baseball. I check the map and for some odd reason the marker leads to Abernathy Farm way up by Sanctuary. I get there and the marker is on top of some random Tato plant in the field. I pick the tato plant, look around it, nothing. How the hell did this even happen?

I even looked at the place where the baseball was supposed to be and found nothing but randomized loot. Looking it up shows me nothing and it seems like nobody else has had this issue before. This is easily the oddest bug I've seen in Fallout 4. Anyone know a solution?

[FO4] [XBOX] any mods that remove the main quest and add more of a roaming style to the game.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 08:40 AM PDT

Any mods that take out the main quest and make you play like you're just in a world exploring. Any mods that add quests and unique locations would be appreciated, just anything to give fallout 4 a new coat of paint and remove the old and repetitive(IMO) story quests.

Should I play Fallout 4? Is it worth the attempt?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:55 AM PDT

My experience with Fallout 3 was utterly abysmal and has given me an enormous hatred of Bethesda for such an abomination. Said experience has kept me from trying Fallout 4, accordingly. However, I'm also extremely curious about Fallout 4 and am awfully tempted to try it. Should I give it a shot, or leave it be?

    5 Minute Summary - Fallout 76 Developer Interview - Gamescon - Live Stream Aug 29, 2020 Video

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:45 PM PDT

I'm sorry, I'm new to reddit, I hope this is allowed here.....

    https://youtu.be/qPuI16jFzQo

Highlights from Fallout 76 Developer Interview – Featuring Senior Producer Jeff Gardiner and Design Director Emil Pagliarulo from Bethesda Game Studios:

Can we get Public Test Server on console?

Way too many enviroments to maintain, takes too much time, no certification process with PC, no need to get permission from Sony or MS, they can rapidly iterate on pc.

    Will we get Animal Companions?

"Pets are on the road map, somewhere in the future"

Favorite Fallout NPC of all time?

J – Nick Valentine, Piper, The Overseer (76)

E – Nick Valentine and The Master

Any plans for a Guild System?

Public Groups were first step to guild system, trying to find ways for players to play together, no immediate plans, but it's high on their future wish list

    Cross-play

Jeff keeps wanting it – it seems like something that'd be so easy, but it's something that they'd have to remove features to implement.

    Next Patch:

Includes Daily Ops, One Wasteland, Legendary Perks

    Patch After That

Then Brother of Steel Patch – and "Shelters" Patch

Brother of Steel Story will be spread over months, and include Quests and Allies

    Shelters:

    Get a Vault Door, build a Mini-Vault!

Everyone who plays gets one, you can go in and build.

Removed a lot of snapping rules inside, they can relax things because it's your own instance.

    Build limits increased.

Can make it open for random players to join, or lock it off to just friends.

    Coming Early Winter, hopefully November

Is CC and Atomic Shop Canon?

CC – "As close to canon as we can get, but the lines get blurred" – they run fiction by Emil, and they want to make sure all the writing fits.

Atomic Shop – Canon Rules are a lot lighter, we want people to have more of what they want.

    Any Chance for Playable Races?

Not in the immediate plans, but it's something they consider all the time. They get asked for ghouls all the time.

    Modding for 76?

Modding for 76 is in active development right now. They're very big on allowing players to mod. They have to work on things to make it fair for people versus single player game modding.

Plan is to step their way to fully modded worlds.

    Fallout TV Series, any hints?

People know as much as they do about the show, they don't know much, but are happy with who is creating it.

    Favorite Quest in Fallout Universe:

    J – Tranquility Lane (Fallout 3)

E – Tranquility Lane (Fallout 3), Blowing up Megaton

Because of rules, the only place a child can die is in that quest – the only reason it was allowed was because it was a simulation within a simulation of a child – but it's not allowed within the regular game…. Weird rules in life, huh?

Will we be allowed to build bigger or get a bigger budget in-world?

Actively investigating tweaking building rules, they're there for everyone's play experience. That's why they're working on the instances, to allow people to build bigger without harming the experience of others on the server.

They want to do things like 'community building' and other things at some point in the future.

How much do you play Fallout 76?

J – Plays in main (xbox), PTS, and their own dev environment. They have the ability to use our characters to test the game in their test environment, to better simulate regular players at certain levels.

E – Loves meeting the cool players, people giving people stuff, having your back, that kind of thing. Loves the interaction with other players.

    Reminders at the end?

All updates are for FREE, as usual. They love us! They're thrilled 76 has turned around this year, and couldn't be more honored.

Also, for the record, I am not the only one who works in shorts nowadays, I see!
