For example, active headsets the amplify quiet noises while softening loud ones, or thermal and/or night goggles? I know night scopes exist for weapons with night sights but that seems to be it. What about picatinny rails and attachments for them? I know the Marksman carbine in FNV seems to use them but that's about it it seems

Why wasnt the whitespring nuked in the great war?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 04:31 AM PDT

The Chinese spies obviously new about the government bunker there, they had a base beside it. Why didnt they nuke it? Did they know how important it was or did they even tell their government?

Why are most of the songs playing on the radio from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's era of music?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:46 PM PDT

Why does most of the soundtrack for the Fallout games come from such an early era of music? Why are songs from later eras in American history nowhere to be found? Is there a lore reason or is it just for the aesthetic? My theory is that there seems to be an obsession with Cold-War era culture in the Fallout universe, but obviously there should be music from other eras even if this theory was true.

The drastic weapon design shift from fo3/NV-fo4/76

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:09 PM PDT

As the title states, mostly in reference to normal guns. Not laser, gauss, plasma or the like.

I picked up fallout 3 with my Xbox 360 when I was probably 12. Played all the concurrent fallouts. One thing I've just not been able to get behind is the newer weapon designs. On one hand in 3/NV style we have mostly legitimate ballistic weapons that are based off real no shit firearms, while the newer gen has some actual abominations like the oblong assault rifle. Is there a reason behind the drastic redesign changes of workhorse firearms? Or is it a simply lore tidbit they worked in to the commonwealth of Boston and West Virginia.

Main example being the G3 style assault rifle in the capital wasteland vs. the new water cooled big boi that we're rocking in 4 and 76.

Do we get any indication to the state of the rest of the world and/or international travel in any of the games ?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 04:31 AM PDT

I never played FO1 or 2 do I don't know if there were any immigrants in them, but from what I know Tenpenny, Moriarty, Dukov, the Bobrov brothers and Cait's parents are all first generation immigrants to the post apocalyptic US.

You also get other people like the Great Khan woman in NV and the raider boss in Nuka World both have New Zeeland accents.

So do any of those people or any other sources in game state how those people got to the US ? Are they even really immigrants or was Cait for instance just raised in an Irish enclave which is why she has the accent ? Also what would their countries be like if they have to risk it all to travel to the US ?

    Are the mannequins alive?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:24 PM PDT

Hi guys! First post here! I was wondering, is there any lore behind mannequins being alive? You see them in FO4 standing menacingly over dead settlers, machete in hand! Additionally, Oxhorn mentioned in a recent video that there was a quest (cut content) in FO76 where mannequins in a shopping centre were to come alive and take the identities of dead workers. This brings me to the second part of my question: if they are alive, how is this possible? Thanks!

Fallout 3's Settlements And Economy Discussion

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:16 PM PDT

(Previous post deleted for title not being descriptive enough)

So this is a serious inquiry into what the settlements actually produce. I know on a small scale that Rivet city produces fresh produce but probably not enough for its own needs let alone to trade. And the Kids at Little Lamplight sell the fungus that grows on the walls there. But asfar as Megaton. Arefu, Big Town, the Republic of Dave, etc.. How do these towns actually stay afloat? What do they produce and trade?

How does the Enclave manage and acquire it's resources?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:30 PM PDT

The Enclave is one of, if not the most, technologically advanced factions in Fallout. Part of me wonders how they managed to upkeep that though. They had access to all kinds of rare and advanced pre-war technology, power armor and satellite platforms, so how did they manage to keep this machine fueled?

    Are there Enclave civilians?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:49 AM PDT

The Enclave wouldn't grant rights to most wastelanders, tainted by radiation. Most vaults we've seen are closed and/or dead and/or contaminated so those populations wouldn't be available for recruitment either. How does the Enclave keep their population up until 2077, large enough to have a powerful functioning military and scientific/industrial sector? Where would these people live?

Does Colonel Hsu and names on the boulder memorial indicate that the Shi was absorbed in the NCR? Is it just a coincidence?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 06:07 AM PDT

On the Boulder City memorial there are 107 names and I counted all of the names that are of Sino descent.

    PFC Melissa Bai

    CPL Tina Chan

    PFC May Chang

    PFC Patrick Chang

    RGR Michael Chen

    PFC Lance Han

    PVT Jeffrey Hui

    2LT Peter Kang

    MSG Thomas Li

    PFC Paul Quon

    PFC Tracy Quon

    SGT Margaret Wang

    PFC Timothy Zheng

    PFC Bradley Zhong

That's 14/107 or 13% of the names on the Boulder City memorial are of Chinese descent. Furthermore a high ranking officer in Colonel Hsu is also of Chinese descent. I have a few theories on why a large percentage of the fallen at Boulder City are of Chinese descent.

    1. It's just a coincidence: The timeline of fallout and our timeline probably diverges somewhere around the 1950s and while the U.S. has always had immigration from China, but the number of immigrants from China only really took off in the late 60s after the passage of the Hart-Celler act. With China seemingly becoming a world power much more quickly in the fallout timeline then ours there are probably less push factors and immigration from China may not be as high as our timeline. Even if immigration rates are as high in our timeline Chinese-Americans only make up 3.5% of California's population today. It's highly unlikely that the high number of Chinese descended people on the Boulder City memorial is just a mere coincidence.

2.The Shi was somehow absorbed in to the NCR

    1. In fallout 2 the Shi had 3 possible endings, two of them ends with the Shi pretty much destroyed. The high number of Chinese descended people is then not because the NCR absorbed the Shi, but rather that the NCR absorbed Shi refugees after they were destroyed.

    Thoughts?
