If the bombs fell, what would you choose?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 12:13 AM PDT

If the bombs fell, would you take your chances by going to a vault, knowing you had a high chance of being subject to some sort of horrible social experiment, or would you become a ghoul and roam the wasteland as a pariah?

What do you hate about New Vegas?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 11:57 AM PDT

A lot of the people on this sub consider New Vegas the best game of the series. And I agree - NV is the last Fallout game where you can actually role play. The dialogues are very well thought-out. The player's choices matter in a satisfying way. I consider NV one of the best games I've ever played. But...

It's not a perfect game. Obsidian didn't have as much time as they needed to develop the game properly. Eventually patches fixed many bugs, but not all of them. Not to mention the fact that Obsidian had to cut a lot of the content to be able to finish the game before the deadline.

So, I have a question for you - what do you hate about New Vegas?

Tell me about a frustrating bug, or an annoying game mechanic (The Courier's a fucking snail).

Tell me about something that didn't get as much attention as it should have, something that feels a little bit too shallow (Powder Gangers).

Tell me about everything that you plain hate about Fallout: New Vegas, even though you fucking love the game as a whole

At least some people are getting their 76 refunds.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 06:57 PM PDT

ACCC has finally busted their balls enough.

" ZeniMax will now honour all refund requests from customers that contacted the publisher between 24 November 2018 and 1 June 2019. "

This is for Australian customers though. What's the deal over in the US of A, lately? Are they allowed to get their refunds?

Do any of you ever simulate Fallout in your dreams?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 05:40 PM PDT

I've been a lucid dreamer now for over 32 years, got into it for pure entertainment value because I learned I could program them re-creating any genre I wanted to explore from waking life. I even coined the technique Genre Specific Lucid Dreaming. One of my favorite genre's has been Fallout, something about being in the wastelands, seen the post-apocalyptic world. I had one today that was Fallout 4 inspired where I ended up at College Station, it was pretty lore accurate but some realistic real-life elements bled in but still... ghouls!

Here's the excerpt from my journal:

I decide to walk outside and thought it would be fun to make the dream world more like Fallout 4 with ghouls sticking with my usual desire to have a Genre Specific Lucid Dream. The dream takes on some of the elements of the game, but now in the rich high-end graphics that only nature's perfected virtual reality simulator can provide. I recognize the setting as College Square with cracked pavement, ruined cars and access to a subway terminal. It looks very close to what it was like in the game and I decide to go explore the subway and start to walk down these concrete stairwell. As I am walking I hear something shambling up the stairs, it has a turn so I can't see and I grab ahold of the rail right near the corner.

This ghoulish zombie shambles up, it's flesh is pale and there is a strong color of green on the skin. I can see its dried out rib cage, the eye sockets are deep but the face looks very similar to Eddie the Head, the Iron Maiden mascot. Now keep in mind, I am fully lucid and aware it's a dream and as an Artist, I like to take a moment to appreciate the artistic value of seeing something that normally doesn't exist in our waking reality but is composed so realistically as a 3D character in this rich dream realism, so I really admire this from that artistic perspective. This Eddie looking ghoul sees me as it turns the corner, and I swing my legs into a kick holding the rail but miss it.

It growls… it's teeth and gums exposed in its grimace frown. I do a forward snap-kick to its chest knocking it backwards down the flight of stairs. It tumbles back rolling hard against the concrete making zombie noises as it bounces down the steps tumbling to the bottom. I realize that I don't have any weapons and start to pay attention to the setting to see if I can find anything to defend myself.

This form of immerse role-playing in dreams is really fantastic, I have a lot of fun with it. It's really like living in your own movie or video game when you take control and make it what you want the dream to be. The subway entrance is not lore accurate though, it's not like I remember it from the video game although close. I don't always get it accurate and it is interesting to note the differences when in the dream comparing it to memories from waking life. So I can't complain, the dream did have a lot of Fallout 4 details but it was merging with more realistic waking life elements.

Eddie has shambled off by the time I walk to the bottom of the stairs. The ground is dirty, lots of debris and dust everywhere. I can see an abandoned counter for subway ticket sales. But the out-of-lore part of the dream is a kitchen setting with a real-world appeal, it's clean, there are brown chestnut cabinets, a modern-day white fridge. I see a block of knives and drawers. I decide this is where I'll need to arm myself and walk over to one of the drawers and pull it open. It has a bunch of metal nuts and bolts. I grab a few and put them in my pocket to throw if needed. Then I see the knives in the block, some of them are throwing knives.

I grab a butcher's knife, and the throwing knives then realize I have nothing to put them in. I can't stick these bladed items in my pockets because unlike a video game, dreams capture a rule-set similar to reality thus I needed a safe container to store them all in. There is this large thermos without a lid. I decide I can use that to hold the knives like a quiver. It has a handle, so I undo my belt and latch the handle to the belt and fill the thermos up with several knives. There is a large meat cleaver in a drawer, so I grab that and decide it will be my primary weapon, and I use the butcher's knife in my other hand dual wielding these but really wanting guns if I am going to fight ghouls.

I walk back to the portion that is more lore accurate to the subway, and I see this slithering creature on the floor. Again, not lore accurate at all. It looks like a fleshy version of a trilobite, but with a soft pink exterior leaving a slimy trail behind it. I take the meat cleaver and cut down on it, it's soft flesh carving like jelly. It bubbles and dissolves into this bubbling pile of goo. I look up and I see this hideous ghoul leaning over a corpse feasting on it, the ghoul was more lore accurate to Fallout 4. It doesn't see me, so I try to sneak away into a hallway hoping to remain undetected.

I look at my throwing knives thinking I could use those against the ghoul, but I really want some guns if I am going to be in this simulation of Fallout. But haven't seen any, and the dream isn't giving up one like sometimes they will just appear in a cabinet or on a counter like magic. I'm stuck with these knives but they will have to do. Then I see this small motorized robot, it's square, probably 1'x 1′ on two wheels, but it too is distorted with flesh and metal. At closer inspection, it is a bottle cap mine wrapped with duct tape and skin. I kick it towards the ghoul and it explodes violently dismembering the monster.

There's more but it's already tl/dr but those interested can read more here:

    https://youaredreaming.org/2019/10/31/october-31st-2019-must-be-halloween-because-i-had-a-fallout-4-inspired-dream-with-ghouls-and-zombies/

At any rate, I thought some might find the idea of programming your dreams to play video games in the rich realism that dreaming provides might be a cool new way to look at dreaming. It's not hard, thoughts are the programming language of dreams and your subconscious mind is the computer. Treat it that way and you'd be surprised what you can dream.

A quick thought on why Bethesda is doing what they're doing and why it won't change anytime soon.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 06:51 AM PDT

The more I think about it (and using what limited knowledge of the business world and economics I have), I've come to the conclusion that Bethesda does not care about the die hard fans anymore. And it's because those numbers don't matter anymore like they used to.

They use to rely on their die hards because those were the only people buying the games. Now, after Skyrim's obvious huge success, they've realized that they have enough clout in the industry to attract new people to the games. So say the lose 2 die hards. Doesn't matter if they've picked up 5 new players.

I could be wrong and probably am. But every time I hear news about what they're doing with Fallout 76, it comes across as corporate greed, nothing more. And again, I'm not saying that's the case, it's just how it seems. And it makes me sad...

I love the "historical" aspect of New Vegas

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 05:17 AM PDT

It's hard to explain, but it always seems like New Vegas is not just a game, but an epic novel of sorts. You especially see this in the DLC's where in the ending slides the narrator and even the text itself is made to sound epic and romantic, fantastical and biblical, something like Gilgamesh almost. The Courier and other characters are spoken of as almost like biblical people. I especially noticed this in Dead Money and Lonesome Road.

Fallout 4 was going for more of a cinematic experience, which was good, but overwhelmingly that's what most other games do as well.

I've been playing Speak of the Devil from tge fallout 4 creation club. I noticed that safe near the X-02 power armor has the X-02 devil's inferno mod. Can the mod be crafted? How do I use it with the X-02 power armor?

My fiancee makes fun of me that I bought a PlayStation 4 and that I only really play Fallout 4. so I decided to figure out how much time I've spent my life playing in The fallout universe

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 07:27 PM PDT

(Fallout 1 + 2 are going to be guesstimates; don't have that computer anymore)

Fallout 1: at least 3 playthroughs; about 50 hours I would guess

Fallout 2: only game I played for a number of years. at least a hundred hours; probably closer to 200

Fallout tactics: 7 and a half hours. Still haven't finished the game

Fallout 3: 406 hours God knows how many times I completed it

Fallout New Vegas: 212 hours on PC and 306 hours on PS3. I have the platinum trophy so I've beaten it at least four times

Fallout shelter: 106 hours ( but I think the app has been left open a couple of times. I really don't think I played that game that much)

Fallout 4: 246 hours (mind you I got my PlayStation 4 this summer)

Fallout 76: Zero. I own it, I just haven't installed it yet

Total: 1293 hours I can look up and another hundred fifty to two hundred fifty hours on my old desktop. So I've spent two months of my life playing in The fallout universe. I might like these games

Why does the Fallout Universe never advanced by wasteland?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 08:52 PM PDT

You would think after a couple hundred years they would at least get things like trains and maybe even some cars running but it seems like they never even figure that out. The whole universe seemed to stall once the bombs fell.

    Fallout 4 Nuka-world / Sanctuary issue

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 06:59 PM PDT

So i'm level 50 now and have been using Sanctuary as my main outpost (probably like everyone else) for awhile now. I finally finished up with the main part of the Nuka-world DLC and started changing outposts to be part of the raider group. Right now nobody is at sanctuary, yet when i try to add a new outpost to my group, i get a warning that it cannot be done until all quest related people are removed from that area.

It's frustrating because not only have i already liberated the outpost, but now i cannot find where all of the supplies i had inside of the workshop there have gone, and i can no longer access it because we are not friendly. I also have a large amount of items placed inside of containers there, that would take me a decade to move somewhere else. I can't even store the previously placed objects in order to move them somewhere else.

Whenever i speak to Preston who is at the castle , he tells me that i have to live with what i've done (or something to that extent). I tried going to another outpost that i have not converted into a raider one to see if maybe my items have moved there, but they have not.

I could be misssing something really obvious and i'm simply unaware of it, but as of now i consider the save screwed up because i have lost so many items, and now the ones i have left are in completely different areas.

what cruel or funny experiments would you put in? a vault where the shower has scorpions? Killer bees in the vents? the possibility's are endless.
a vault that contains 1000 people but contains over 200 cultures with the weapons of vault 34?

the opposite of vault 29,a complete cybernetic and transhumanist society with none older than 16.
Vault Canada: a vault which Canadians that suffered from the occupation are now overseer and security and the Americans now facing their wrath.

a vault that plays one repetitive annoying song over and over again.
