I’ve come to the sad conclusion that New Vegas was a one of a kind game, and I don’t think I’ll ever find anything that’s as appealing as it is to me.

I've always looked for another RPG like New Vegas, but nothing compares IMO. I've gotten suggestions for somewhat similar games, but none are what I want. New Vegas had everything for me that I ever could've wanted.

A blank slate character, someone you can project a story and even backstory on because they're not already made. This is my biggest problem Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and the Witcher.

I love that S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, skills, perks, traits, and all of that. I hate games that just give you a perk tree instead of actual numbers you can mess around with to make your character to your precise liking. Want a strong moron who can barely form a sentence but can smash anything in their way? Go for it. It is a completely doable, and fully realized option. Perk trees just feel lazy to me, and they're in EVERY new game. And as far as your skills and what not, they play into the game, whether it be through being able to pass speech checks because you're more knowledgeable about a subject because of what you put points into, or whether or not you'll be effective with a weapon because of the strength and weapon type requirements. They're not locked behind a level wall, you can still use them. You just won't be good with them.

The story, setting, and lore are amazing. Another problem I have with the Bethesda entries is that after 200+ years after the Great war, the entire world won't still be in shambles. There would be full nations rising, such as the NCR, which isn't a cluster of shanty towns, but an industrial nation. Of course it has its flaws, but they're told to you as to not act like they're perfect. And as far as lore goes, that's pretty much next tier in my opinion over the whole franchise (other than the retcons in 4, and I'm not even going to consider 76 canon). And the setting for the game, not even being in Vegas, but a post apocalyptic wasteland. I really just don't like medieval or sci-fi type games.

And a big one is the weapons. I don't like games where you'll keep finding the same exact weapon, just slightly higher stats every time. I like the ability to find one weapon, and be able to just use that the entire game. I also love the different ammo types, attachments (which is something I did enjoy in Fallout 4), and the degradation system.

Overall, New Vegas has just set the bar so high, and made my dream game to specific to find anything else that'll be better in my own personal opinion. But that's all it is. I'm not bashing on any other game at all, this is just me saying no other games is as enjoyable to me specifically.

I have the option to get fallout 4 right now and I really enjoyed Skyrim but I think I’m too late to the party and it’ll be my first fallout game. Should I get it?

Why did no one tell me Vault 88 was such a good DLC?!

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 05:38 PM PDT

The quest was obviously way too short and I wish there was some way to have recurring tasks or expídeme as an overseer but I have spent ~10 hours just exploring, building random vault sections. I'm still unlocking chambers in the vault area. It's like one of the biggest, connected dungeons I've ever played in. I want to build everything in here. I want it to be a city. I do have a settlement build limit mod which is helping explore and build. Has anyone else had as much fun as me with this DLC?

Btw, I have 450+ hours of gameplay in F4. Had it since day one and this is the first play through I've discovered how cool it is.

TIL there is a cave under the Red Rocket down East of Sanctuary

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 01:13 AM PDT

I've read the terminal entry when I first started playing but years later I finally found the entrance, inside is a cool intro to gas puddles and a lesson in not throwing nades in caves.

It's also cool finding the dead body of the fuel inspector they had coming around.

I always forget how good the intro stretch is in F4, with various weapon types being hidden around Concord for people going for certain playstyles, the ability to make the Lexington Ghouls swarm the fat man duo on the walkway.

Would you like to see advanced survival mode in Fallout 5?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 12:14 PM PDT

In 1996 was released game called Robinson's Requiem. Despite fact that game is old, it has an incredibly advanced survival system. Poisoning, amputation, blindness, illness. A whole set of negative traits. Which is VERY powerful for such an old game.

Would you like Fallout 5 to be able to do this?

Would Fallout 4 Be Right for Me?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 12:11 AM PDT

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some insight as to how enjoyable FO4 might be to someone whose main enjoyment from New Vegas came from witty dialogue choices, in-depth companions, and stealthy energy weapons combat. How does Fallout 4 stack up in those regards before I bite the $60 bullet?

Is it worth getting the DLC's just for me to play the base game?, Do they improve the story and playthrough at all? Or is it all post story shit.

    Your own Vault ideas

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 08:46 PM PDT

I've been thinking of Vault 55 which would had a rank system from one to five, residents who are rank five live a rather luxurious life, as opposed to rank one who live in the bottom and are basically crewmembers who tend the vault, the vaults test is to see long till a war brakes out between those on the bottom and upwards, this war will cause unrest for those who simply want to Ingore it but cant cause they're stuck in this vault.

What would your vault be about?

How sub-optimal are followers compared to Lone Wanderer perk in Survival difficulty

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 03:58 AM PDT

So, I'm thinking about starting my first Survival run ever, and a part of the Fallout 4 experience that I really, really enjoy is building relationships with followers. I don't mean romancing everyone, though. I intended to romance Piper and develop full friendships with Preston, Nick, Deacon, Codsworth and maybe Curie... However, this is what's troubling me: - enemies are going to get whopping x4 damage towards me. If I got the Lone Wanderer perk, that damage would be reduced to x2.8, which is still a lot, but damn, it's way less. - Lone Wanderer would also get me 100 carry weight, which I think is more than companions can get you - I was planning on sneaking through the first levels, but I know companions are very bad for that... - finally, I'm also afraid that I will be wasting more stimpaks on Piper than she'll be putting out damage towards enemies

Are my fears true? Or am I just over thinking stuff? I simply don't want to waste time finding out if you could guys answer me

Fallout NV deserves a remaster more than any other game out there

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 03:42 AM PDT

I'm not sure I've ever played a game that has such good substance while having such disgusting delivery. Like the world building, NPC's, quests and core mechanics (special, perks, skills, dialogue, etc.) are so well done, probably still my favourite of any game, even more recent releases.

However it's delivery is disgusting. The engine is just gross, like the air strafing and air time makes jumping feel more like throwing a kite up into the air. Gunplay is honestly terrible, if anyone's ever played on controller you'll understand how the joystick feels too sensitive and too slow at the same time. Somehow it feels more like a game made from Gary's mod or Minecraft or something. I say this as someone who's played this game through more times than I could count.

[FO4] Game crashes when picking up certain legendary items. Help

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 01:11 AM PDT

It usually happens when I pick up a legendary synth armor or anything with the bolstering effect. Tried looking it up online and just found that it happens when a certain mod (AWCK) is installed, which I don't. The only mod I have on is the Unofficial Patch. This sucks coz it's my first time playing on survival difficulty and I have to watch out for this every so often.

Fallout 4 theory : The SS is a Gen 4 synth

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 09:23 PM PDT

Some spoilers ahead, obviously. Okay so I don't think that the writers were intending this but it closes some institute plot holes for me. So bear with me as I don't have a lot of evidence, but this just makes the story make more sense to me.

First of all, in the institute on a terminal there is a description of the VATS system being part of a new combat ability in synths that is being experimented with. For those of you who say that VATS comes from the pip boy, in FO4 you can use VATS the moment you are unfrozen, before you get the pip boy.

Now the plot holes this closes up for me are mainly the poor writing, inconsistent character, and absolutely stupid schemes that father comes up with. If he loves the SS and wants him to find the institute, why let him stumble into the wasteland and let him risk his/her life while allying with the institute's enemies? Also why program a synth boy to believe that he is the SS's son, when father believes that synths are no more than machines that humans should not feel emotions for?

What if Father made a prototype synth capable of more than any other synth. One that could learn, and had VATS embedded? I know it is just the game mechanic, how you level up, or is it? What if VATS and constantly acquiring superhuman abilities and skills that you take for granted is part of your programming? I posit that father wanted a legacy, and the SS is designed to eliminate the other factions and then take over as director of the institue. The SS is left to make his way through the wasteland, the commonwealth because he is a test and a prototype. He eliminates Conrad Kellog, arguably someone father would have seen as a potential danger to the institute. He infiltrates the other factions. And once the SS is made director of the Institute, he could provide stability as he could potentially live forever. And what is synth Shaun's role in all this? Humans shouldn't become attached to synths, except for the synths sent to manipulate humans for the institute's purposes such as mayor McDunnah. What if synth Shaun was made for the SS to keep him/her from malfunctioning, or in human speak, going crazy after hundreds of years as the director watching people live entire lives and die. Synths are the next step for humanity... Perhaps father made this synth to keep the institute forever on it's path.

As I said, I'll be the first to admit that there is not a lot of evidence, but maybe there are other parts of the story or game mechanis that can support my idea?
