Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:49 PM PDT Look, I love Fallout 3, New Vegas, 4, and I tolerate 76. But throughout the years I've been on this sub and YouTube, one thing everyone brings up in the endless arguments between fans of 3 and fans of New Vegas is that New Vegas was only developed in 18 months, as if that's somehow a knock to Bethesda. I agree, it is remarkable that a game as large and expansive as New Vegas could be made so quickly. But when people defend New Vegas, they make it seem like this timeline was something forced on them by Bethesda, and not one Obsidian contractually agreed to. It's much the same with the bonus and the Metacritic score that New Vegas failed to meet by 1 point. People are quick to point the finger at Bethesda as if they're some cruel corporate overlord that withheld the bonus because they're simply evil. But the unfortunate truth is, if New Vegas hadn't launched in such a horribly buggy state, it easily would have crept up a single point. This all comes down to play testing and debugging, which is one of the last steps in development. So this raises the question, why did Obsidian agree to an 18 month time frame? Why did Bethesda want an 18 month development time? Why did I write this entire post? I guess I'm just interested in the work behind the curtain on New Vegas, because it's development was so rushed but convoluted and it deserves a documentary. [link] [comments] |

Any chance we can get William Shen as the main writer for Fallout 5? Not Emil? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:41 AM PDT William Shen worked on Far Harbor, and that piece of standalone DLC was infinitely better than the base game. It's such a turnaround from Emil's lackluster writing. FH proved that FO4 could have been better if Bethesda had employed talented writers. [link] [comments] |

Why is there an A-Bomb in Megaton? Didn't they use missiles during the Great War? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:17 AM PDT What I mean is that the bomb in Megaton is an A-Bomb like the ones used on WW2, so it needed a bomber to land there. But didn't they use missiles during the Great War? [link] [comments] |
Fallout 76 needs a true rival/nemesis like Ulysses for the player(s). Posted: 13 Oct 2020 04:10 PM PDT Thinking about the most compelling villains in recent fallout games, the two best that I can think of are Ulysses and Kellogg, mainly because they truly serve as real antagonists. Kellogg is the man haunting your memories who you play a cat and mouse battle with until his eventual demise at your hands, while Ulysses is the menace that has influenced every step you take from the shadows. While Kellogg is a decent rival, the issue is that he's cut short too early in the game which denies him the length to grow. Meanwhile, Ulysses is hinted at several times in the base game and referenced in every DLC up to the point you meet him in Lonesome Road, making him this great enigma that draws the player's interest by creating that build up to show his value to the narrative. Even with all the improvements made by Wastelanders, Fallout 76 still falls flat. The settlers and raiders are interesting because of their individual characters, but overall the factions are fairly generic and uninteresting in comparison to those found in previous Fallout games. The most interesting factions in the story (the free states and responders for their uniqueness) are already all wiped out by the time the game starts (although I have a feeling they're going to make a return during year three). In my mind one of the best things 76 could do is create an antagonist in the same vein as Ulysses that is slowly referenced and built up throughout future campaigns and questlines before finally making an appearance, and then acting as a true nemesis/rival to the player (not necessarily evil, but antagonistic). I think the best way to do this would be to create a character who is truly the opposite of the player in context. For example, as a small child this rival's family was denied entry into vault 76, and rather than experience the luxuries of the vault were forced to live through the events of October 23, 2077. The rival would spend the next 25 years struggling to survive, watching as those around them were taken by the cruelty of the wasteland, growing bitter and resentful. The rival would live through the scorched plague, and watch as the remaining people in Appalachia died off from infighting and scorched, before becoming the last known survivor in Appalachia by the time the game starts. The rival would go on to do everything a few steps ahead of the player (getting inoculated, learning of the scorched detection system, etc). Upon seeing the devastation and chaos caused by the residents of vault 76 dropping nukes and battling the scorchbeasts head on the rival will flash back to the day the original bombs dropped, and will immediately be opposed to the residents, believing their lives of comfort in the vault made them callous to the outside world, and willing to destroy it all over again. The easiest and likely most effective way to begin implementing this would be to start by adding dialogue and text clues that reference the rival. Add lines to existing robots like Modus, Grafton's Mayor and Rose that reference a wastelander who's beaten you to every stop along the way. I would even go so far as to say add some kind of holotape or terminal entry that suggests the rival started the rumors about the treasure of Appalachia after discovering information about vault 79 at Vault Tec University. Going forward with future questlines other comments from NPC's who have met this rival and notes/holotapes/terminal-entries written by them would be scattered throughout the wasteland, before whatever DLC eventually brought their shadowy rivalry with the players came to be. Next fallout game needs to have max 5 or 7 settlements. Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:30 PM PDT Playing through 4 for the first time and I really do find settlement building fun. However I think I have over 14 already and I don't think that's even all of them. Most players make a main home and customize it to the max then use the other ones just for resources. Every time I find a new settlement I can't help but think this could have been an actual town/village with unique characters and side quest stories. It makes exploring not that rewarding since you will just get another settlement with basically robot NPC. They could still have 5 or 7 settlements and keep the same radiant quests just change from defending settlements to attacking a camp or something. What do you guys think do you actually keep every single settlement customized and happy? For me only my main one and 2 others tops. I just miss exploring and running into a small town with a unique story like the super hero one in 3 or the cannibal one. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:01 PM PDT (FALLOUT 3: THE PITT [add-on] SPOILERS) I'm playing through The Pitt again for the first time in a long time; and this is probably one of the hardest choices I had to make in a video game. Ashur or Wernher? Let's get the facts out of the way. Ishmael Ashur, also known as Lord Ishmael Ashur or just Ashur, is the leader of The Pitt in 2277. A former initiate of the Brotherhood of Steel, he single-handedly revitalized the city following its near-destruction by the Brotherhood. His ways are rather, extreme. But he does have a plan in action and is building a future for The Pitt. He seems to acknowledge his present leadership as a degrading past. He clearly puts on an act for both the raiders and slaves of The Pitt. However, there's no denying his stature as a dictator. And that tied to his extreme measures is somewhat questionable. He's got the cure and a plan to dissect and distribute it in time. He will mention both to the Lone Wanderer and in his audio diaries directed to Marie that there will no longer be need for the harsh ways that are currently being enforced. Midea will mock the Lone Wanderer for believing in Ashur's word as if she's sure it's a lie. But if we take in to consideration what Ashur's current situation is; he cannot control his own men from unnecessarily abusing and murdering slaves. He even goes as far as to implement an arena for the entertainment of the the Pitt's citizens. He also clearly has a history of not being stable so it'd seem Midea's take is a justified outlook. But not factual one. Then there's Wernher; an escaped slave and former right-hand man of Ishmael Ashur. Wernher was condemned to slavery after trying to stage a coup to overthrow Ashur. He has no particular love for the slaves, and he sees a plan to kidnap Ashur's baby as a way to get back at The Pitt's ruler and the city in general. Midea concocted the kidnapping plan with Wernher shortly after he was enslaved, and she sees the baby as a tool to earn the freedom of her people. Midea is no scientist like Sandra Kundanika (Ashur's wife) and has far from the qualifications it takes to crack a cure, (or at least compared to Sandra) but it is much more assured the freedom of the slaves and the distribution of the cure to them if found if Wernher's route is choosen. Not to mention the many more lives that are saved thanks to the end of Ashur's tyranny. Wernher is pretty much the opposite of Ashur in that his intentions are dull but the successful outcome of his plan will mean freedom of the slaves and a potential cure to the people of The Pitt. Of course, Ashur's plan to rebuild the city will be destroyed but then again, would it really be so much a great thing when it's been built on a foundation of blood and bodies? And how sure are we that Ashur will not continue to use his power as leader or rather abuse it by further use of slaves. Which brings me to my last question; How do we know? Is there any sort of confirmation as to what'd happen in The Pitt for both outcomes? We've had a few Fallout games along with their respective DLC's to go along with them since the release of The Pitt. Is there any indication at all. And if not, is there really nothing more to ensure this gamble of a choice? So that we'd probably know who'd have the cards in their favour (according to morals)? [link] [comments] |
What's your opinion about the dialogue in Fallout 3? Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:20 PM PDT I notice that some people were complaining about the fallout games that Bethesda made because of the bad dialogue in Fallout 4 but in Fallout 3 I notice in some quests, dlcs and main story that the dialogue isn't that bad, like if it has the same elements from the dialogue of Fallout 1 and I also notice that the optional quests had a better dialogue system than the one it had fallout 4. So what's your opinion? [link] [comments] |
Why Jericho is one of my favorite companions Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:18 AM PDT This is just an appreciation post for all the fun I had in the capital wasteland with Jericho, obviously he is a bad person and did horrible things I won't deny that, but in fallout 3 going from moira browns optimistic views on wasteland life straight to Jericho calling you a "wasteland asshole" was such a comical change I just had to get him as a companion. His asshole remarks and his over exaggerating in combat just made him one of my favorites, never once did I expect a companion to say "What the fuck man, I've been standing here forever" in fallout 3. So many good memories. The best one was in the nuka cola factory where his AI started to freak out and run around like crazy cussing out the nuka lurks, eventually it stabilized and I was able to kill the lurks with his help. Anyways just wanted to say that. Any of you have fun companion memories? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Oct 2020 12:59 AM PDT Who need high Charisma when you got Grape Mentats. If you want to pass speech check alone, just put your CHR at 3 for Lone Wanderer, wear a suit or something, pop off Grape Mentats (+5 freaking CHR) You just need 3 Hub Flowers, 1 Whiskey and 1 Mentats [link] [comments] |
Darker themes returning in Fallout Posted: 13 Oct 2020 05:05 PM PDT How would you all feel about Fallout returning to darker themes such as the likes explored in Fallout 1 to New Vegas? Personally i think the new Fallout games are a little too light-hearted and cheerful for being in a post-apocalyptic world. I'm not saying that there can't be any light-hearted themes at all but what i am saying is that the theme of Fallout 1 and 2 for example really hit a home run. It made Fallout feel like Fallout. Vote on the poll if you have an opinion or disagree in the replies, all opinions are welcome. [link] [comments] |
No wonder I couldn’t get into Fallout 3 back when I was younger. Posted: 13 Oct 2020 11:37 PM PDT I got Fallout 3 for the first time back on the Xbox 360 and now I've finally actually started playing it on PC, I really do like it, it isn't as immersive as New Vegas but it's pretty good, but there is no way I would have had the patience for this game back then, I mean, this game is HARD. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say the early parts of Fallout 3 are immensely difficult for a low level character, and I wouldn't say I suck, I played Fallout New Vegas all the way through on hard, plus I mean, this is a single player game, the git gud stuff doesn't apply in my opinion, the game seems a little unbalanced? I mean, my character feels like a wet noodle on normal difficulty and ammo is ridiculously hard to find out in the wasteland and I've yet to find a trader that sells any, my character is at level 5 by this point barely scraping by with a .32 pistol and a baseball bat, also limbs are crippled super easily too, I'm not saying Fallout 3 is a bad game, I do like it, but do you guys agree? Fallout Fans, I need your help Posted: 13 Oct 2020 04:49 PM PDT I've been running a long standing DND game for a while, and in celebration of finishing a major milestone in our last campaign my players have asked me to run a mini-campaign set in a Fallout world. Now, since I don't live under a particularly large rock and I know how to read a wiki, I'm pretty confident in my ability to create a setting and a storyline to meet their expectations. What I need from you all is the following: What is the moment that made you fall in love with the fallout series? What are those moments you keep going back to, year after year? I want to get a sense of the emotional beat that makes Fallout, Fallout. Thank you for your help! [link] [comments] |
Fallout 76: Passing online saves from an account to another Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:08 AM PDT Hi guys, my brother and I have the same PS Account, I was wondering if it is possible, asking to bethesda customer assistance, to create another account (in order to have one each) and to pass his Fallout 76 character in that account? Thanks [link] [comments] |
The next fallout game should have the NCR in it Posted: 14 Oct 2020 02:52 AM PDT The NCR is a really cool faction with cool armor and weapons and they don't worship machines like the brother hood of steel also they care for other people unlike the BoS and there is so many stories you can do with the NCR faction. Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:26 PM PDT I keep getting killed growing through the middle which leaves me to believe it's a death zone like Fallout 3. I've played Fallout 4 before, but on my new playthrough my leveling as a whole seems off, enemies seem more powerful despite also being on Normal and super mutants are very hard to kill which I don't remember that being the case. Because of this I need to find a semi-passive way around the middle of the city. Is there an intended route to take besides walking through a super mutant camp? [link] [comments] |
Do you guys use mods to improve gameplay in Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Posted: 13 Oct 2020 05:56 AM PDT I was thinking of buying both games and I've seen mods that seem to significantly improve gameplat have you guys tried them before? [link] [comments] |
