The 'secret' in "a terminal somewhere" has not been found and I have a theory on why and what a possible route to finding it is.

As someone who is into cryptology, ARGs, Easter eggs, and stuff like that I was intrigued by the possibility of an unfounded secret. I read theories on it being solved and don't think it's concrete enough to be a secret discovered, more like a detail noticed. That being said, I don't think it has been found. I read an employee from Bethesda confirmed it was but couldn't find anything confirming that to be valid.

Had the egg been an item or event, it would have been discovered in a dump. The only way to hide something is in the text. If we got all of the text from every terminal, how could it be in the text? It isn't in the text in the terminals, it's the hexadecimal codes on the password screen. I looked up to see if there were any previous examples of hex ciphers in Fallout and I was surprised to learn there was back in New Vegas.

On a holotape to get into the lucky 38 the access code is in hex that translates to 'CAEK > PIE.' Nothing huge but it shows hex codes have been used in the series prior.

Now, obviously they're in order, so in order to actually see if this theory holds weight one would have to either take all codes from a terminal and rearrange/combine to see if it fits or more likely, pay attention to differences in placement in relation to correct password.

If the theory of hexadecimal is true, it seems most likely that the terminals would go in a set order of each having a corresponding code by the correct password. For example, if the secret egg was 'Deathclaws are birds' the correct password would have the hex code for D on the line then the next for E and so on. No one would notice any repetition or pattern due to the length of the egg and the changing of password position in text.

It could be possible to experiment with figuring out the password, writing down the corresponding hex code (the thing that starts with 0x) and then exiting and redoing it.

I tested if it was just in alphabetical order by typing in a code off a screen and the numbers didn't line up with being alphabetical.

This would be an egg inside a terminal that no one has noticed yet.

I will try to do some testing if I get more time but wanted to let ya guys know my theory

Mechanist should have been a companion

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:56 PM PST

I think there would be a lot of potential for more Mechanist lore quests and even a mission where you and the Mechanist can dress up as the Mechanist and Silver Shroud while doing her lore quests. She's already much more interesting than Porter Gage and Old Longfellow and I think there could have been more room for her in the game.

So which "Overseer" answer did you choose in Fallout 3?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:20 PM PST

I always chose the third one. Every single time I chose the third. Partially cause in testing, C was always the best guessed answer and when I first did the G.O.A.T., I chose it cause I had no clue if I was right or not; like the game was pulling something in the background based off whatever I chose.

After spending 30 minutes trying to fix (and being annoyed by) a floating floor in my settlement, I gave up.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:28 PM PST

It annoys me how bad settlement building is in Fo4. You shouldnt need mods to make it right. (I dont use mods tbh, the only one I use is to clear everything - something which should have been in the base).

I mean, there's dead fuckin raiders just lying in bedrooms I cant sort.

Bits that dont clip together etc. I've never bothered settlement building on my forst playthrough, but im trying again now and its just as fun as the core game.

The thing is, in a FO style game, which can get repetivive (go here, kill this, find that), you need a break. They should have put so much more effort into settlement building than they did, it feels like it was a side add-on and it pisses me off.

What are the best Christmas themed mods for Fallout 4?

Winter Workshop sadly crashed my PS4 every time. I'd love an Xmas tree in my base!

What if the next fallout game's main character isn't a vault dweller?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:28 PM PST

Now, technically in a few fallout game's you weren't from a vault. But what if Bethesda made a fallout game that is about a person who wasn't born or lived in a vault? As then we would be able to see settlement living first hand. Feel free to voice your thoughts in the comments

How would you rank all of the Fallout games in terms of difficulty?

This also includes playing on the hardest difficulty the games have to offer.

In playing New Vegas, if you ever make an "oh shit I screwed up" choice, do you decide to reload a previous save or just go along with it and wait for a next playthrough?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 11:13 PM PST

Does looking up guides on the internet for the best results ruin the immersion for others or make the game more fun because you can see the actual right decisions?

Anyone else here have the Enclave as their favorite faction?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:39 PM PST

Bad guys or not, I've become fascinated by their origins, history, and structure. They are technologically advanced and (for the most part) tactically competent. They don't pick good bases, but had the been open to outside recruitment, the Enclave could have ruled the wasteland.

I’m on break and thinking Bethesda should give us the 10mm SMG through Creation Club on Fallout 4

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 10:49 PM PST

It uses the same animations in Fallout 76 that vanilla weapons in Fallout 4 use and I think it'd be a worthwhile weapon to add to the game in a fashion similar to the Handmade Shotgun Creation.

Anyways gotta go back. Have fun in the Wastelands friends.

New Vegas Crashing, despite all modding or lack thereof

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 02:05 AM PST

EDIT 2: Solved - Clean install, and removed CASM with MCM and Zan AutoPurge

Quite literally unplayable outside of 5 minute bursts, kind of a bummer ya know?

Alright, so I've tried (PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING, I've gotten 8 people on steam telling me to use the same exact mods I've listed, it's annoying.)

    4GB Patch Enabler

    NVAC

New Vegas Stutter Remover (with ini fix for Win 10)(and in my most recent attempt NVTF)

    CASM

    Zan AutoPurge Crash Protectors

    Win 10 | i7 3.6ghz cpu | 16gb ram | RTX 2070

I've tried with no mods as well, which went longer without crashes but then started to crash on launch.

EDIT: When I tried without mods, I did a clean install. (deleted all known folders and files, reinstalled from scratch)

I've enjoyed what I've played so far, I just want to be able to play without crashing all the time

Other mods that may or may not be responsible but I haven't noticed any change without them

Easy Unlocking | Loot Menu | Willow - A better companion experience | perk every level | underwater home | sprint mod | enhanced camera | MTUI | Conelrad Civil Defense Radio | MCM | Type 3 Body | Roberts Body | Follower Home Marker | Clarity (i've missed a few of the dependencies probably, but they're there as well)

I've been playing Fallout 3 recently and I'm wondering if I should use the Metal Blaster or A3-21's Plasma Rifle

I normally use the Metal Blaster but after seeing the stats of both of them I'm not sure which I should use

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:39 PM PST

I just thought it sucked he disappears when you switch sides against House. Should've have a better send off at the dam.
