I finished my IRL Survivalist's Rifle build!

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 12:19 PM PST

    Link

Sort of a cross-post from r/guns, but I spent the last couple of months piecing together as close a replica to the Survivalists Rifle as I could muster.

A few short answers to common question, if you didn't have time to read the whole writup:

    • Its chambered in .50 Beowulf, the closest equivalent to the in game 12.7 ammo

      • No, the sights aren't canted, because that's not conducive to a useable rifle
    • No, I won't be carving up the stock. The set is like 300 bucks, and I can't bring myself to do it.

It's a blast to shoot, especially with home rolled ammo. Ask me anything about the build!

Most Pre-War Fallout lore that we know of could entirely just be U.S Government/Enclave propaganda

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 08:39 PM PST

Essentially everything we know about the Pre-War world in Fallout is from the Pre-War American perspective, which was lying to its citizens about everything and oppressing them in every way.

We know the Anchorage Simulation is fraudulent, the war museum portrays U.S soldiers fighting on the Moon which is questionable to say the least, we know the intention of the vaults was a lie.

How do you know if the Resource Wars weren't overexaggerated so the U.S could boost military spending and further isolate itself to consolidate power over its own population? How do you know if America was the only country with power armor, energy cells or robots? How do you know if American troops ever landed in China or if China attacked first?

The starting cutscene of Fallout 4 is one of the best openings to a Fallout Game and maybe even one of the best opening I’ve seen to any game.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 02:09 PM PST

I just think it sets a really good atmosphere and it's definitely one of the things that bethesda did really really well with Fallout 4.

Joining the institute and your relationship with characters.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 01:33 AM PST

I just finished my Institute F4 walkthrough and I went to Nick and Piper, Piper is pretty pissed meanwhile Nick didnt say anything, just the regular old lines... The other residents didnt comment about it either while i was walking around. Are there any other characters that care enough to have their own dialogue about it.

New Vegas Ultimate Edition not installing DLCs

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 10:36 PM PST

I installed the Ultimate Edition and found that it kept my old save files (from the vanilla version). The DLCs did not activate when loading the game after installation, and I discovered that it was because I had basically finished the story in that save file. Okay then. So, I started a new save, with a new character and everything, and stepped outside of Doc Mitchell's house, as the Fallout Wiki said the DLCs would activate right after doing that.

They did not. I don't have any new quests or radio signals to follow. I do have the Ultimate Edition from GoodOldGames .com (the Steam version crashes constantly on startup, so it's the only one that works for me). Not sure what is going wrong. I checked the data files and the .esm file seems fine, though it only lists one in there, which seems to be the main game. Would the DLCs be listed separately alongside it? If so, my copy may be bugged somehow and did not download the DLCs with the game itself....

Has anyone else run into this problem? In other respects, the game runs fairly well, but I bought this version to play the DLCs after losing my old disc version without them.

My theory on how the zetans started the Great War

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 12:11 AM PST

This is a far fetched theory so take it with a grain of salt.

My theory is that the zetans launched humanities nukes at each over in an attempt to destroy a future rival.

From my previous post most people told me that plasma weaponry was made from alien tech, the zetans had robots on there spaceship.

Also the US had numerous space stations orbiting earth and apparently were involved in a conflict on the moon, the only evidence of that was in the museum of freedom.

The giant death laser one the mothership could be an attempt to destroy humanity once and for all.

Fuck the praire dog ( Fallout 2 )

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 10:09 PM PST

    Fucking hell

For those of you have yet to encounter electronic satan, in fallout 2 there exists a special encounter of a praire dog that follows you around. Doesn't sound so bad, right? Wrong. The prairie dog permanently reduces your luck to 1, and gives you the jinxed trait. So why not just remove it fro your party? Because some degenerate motherfucker thought it would be funny to not only have this dog in the game, but to make it impossible to remove him from your party without killing him. So I will just kill him, won't be too hard, right? WRONG AGAIN. They created him with 750 FUCKING HITPOINTS. And, due to your know horrible luck, the odds of you actually hitting him are significantly lowered.

Jesus christ. I had to burn through 89 5mm ammo, about 100 magnum ammo, a c4, 2 molotovs, 3 grenades, and 6 dynamite to finally kill this motherfucker. Oh, and did I mention that I critically missed twice, destroying both my brand new assault rifle and my desert eagle. Motherfucker, it'll cost thousands of dollars to replace all that motherfucking gear.

This is some bullshit shithouse quality game design. For upgrading my outdoorsman skill, I was exposed to this incredibly expensive dog.

If this encounter is not deleted from the game within a fortnight, I am tracking down each and everyone of the developers at interplay and shoving them into vat of nuka cola dark, with nylon bags of rocks weigh them down whilst wearing the moldy power armor helmets. Christ.

    Just finished Old World Blues

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 06:12 AM PST

Having no life I just finished Old World Blues for the first time mere 20 hours after I finished Honest Hearts. I don't remember last time I've laughed as much playing a video game. I still think Honest Hearts was more fun for me because I got the biggest mancrush for Joshua Graham and I'm not playing a high-intelligence character.

Beforehand I knew the DLC was going to include a lot of science and robots but I didn't expect it to be so... sexual. 5/5 will play again

I just heard the weirdest, scariest scream in Fallout

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 12:06 PM PST

I was playing Fallout 3, turning one of the Wasteland Guide quests for Moira. When I left the Craterside Supply I heard a scream, but not like any other in any Fallout game ever. It was like a painful scream but not like the ones NPCs do in game. I don't believe is related with the mods I'm using.

If any of you ever played silent Hill 4 The Room, in the very beginning of the game when your character wakes up you can hear a scream similar to the one I heard in Fallout 3, but the one in SH4 lasts a bit longer.

    Tips for a first-time Fallout 2 player?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 09:28 PM PST

I really enjoy all the new generation Fallout games (3, 4, New Vegas) and I've wanted to get into the old games for a while now. I wasn't too intrigued by the original Fallout's story, but Fallout 2 seemed interesting to me. My question is: How can I possibly prepare myself for such a different game?

Why are flies killing me easier than Nightkins?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 09:10 AM PST

I just started Fallout NV and I'm still really early on, my current main quest is Ring-a-Ding-Ding but I can't even get to the casino, I completed Come Fly With Me on Medium no problem, I think I died once, if that but now that I'm out and trying to get to the Casino I've had to turn the game down to Very Easy and I still feel like a paper man walking through a shredder, one encounter with a small group of Raiders and I'm one 1 bar of health, Geckos, flies, Scorpions, everything's killing me, my overall armour is 16, I'm a doing a melee build and my weapon has 25 Damage, am I doing something wrong? I've never had this much trouble just trying to get somewhere in a video game

New Fallout 4 Player, things to do besodes quests?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:51 PM PST

I just feel like I'm going way too fast through the big game world by doing quests, and I'm not sure if it's okay to really explore in this game, and I wanna leave settlement building until I've got more resources. What can I do besides structured quests?

What do you feel is the truest Vault Hunter build? (Mostly for FO4, but can be any of them)

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 06:06 PM PST

Maybe a Survivalist sniper? A smooth talking charmer, who is a master of stealth? A power armor wielding soldier? Maybe a robot building Engineer? What build do you feel is the true Vault Hunter.
