People are buying the fallout first package to get the NCR ranger armor, then IMMEDIATELY refunding so that they get it without actually having to have paid a single penny. Yes. This is amazing. After all these terrible decisions made at a corporate level it's only appropriate clever players found a way to yet again prove that you shouldn't be so terrible to your fan base. This is ironic and amazing and life affirming. Get as much as you can out of them, send a message. This is funny :p

Truly, what the hell is going on with Beth?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 06:45 PM PDT

Do we know who's actually making these greedy pay-wall decisions at Bethesda? I didn't know them to be truly greedy until 76 became the shitshow it has. I'm putting my money where my mouth is and not preordering another Beth game.

Mostly, I want to know if there's any story behind their newfound bullshit business practice?

WHY doesn't Bethesda remaster Fallout 3 or New Vegas?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 11:38 PM PDT

Bethesda has been making some very questionable decisions since the days of Oblivion, but in the past year has been riddled with so many events that it isn't even funny anymore. From the horrendus launch of Fallout 76 to the recent disaster that is Fallout 1st, Bethesda has destroyed its reputation by doing things that even a toddler would expect to fail.

One thing Bethesda appears to realize is that people care about their old games. This can be seen with the iconic Ranger gear thrown into Fallout 1st and also the Galaxy News Tower creation club DLC for Fallout 4, Bethesda clearly knows what fans want, but for some reason refuses to give it to us. I could understand legal excuses for why we don't have a remastered New Vegas, but there is no excuse for Fallout 3.

It's only been a year since Bethesda flipped their boat over with Fallout 76, but it feels like forever since we've been able to look at Bethesda with respect. I remember watching their E3 conference in 2018, and hearing that there would be a brand new Fallout game. I was estatic. Now here we are in 2019 watching one of the greatest developers from the turn of the decade burn their legacy for a bit of cash.

Is there anyone else who likes the games but hates the community?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 02:39 AM PDT

It's like no matter where you go, regardless of what you say, if you even consider liking anything besides New Vegas everyone tries to crucify you

I've seen so many people that will bash and insult and berate others simply because they liked 76, or preferred 3/4 over New Vegas, and when you say anything their defense is basically "it's not bullying because it's true!"

I can't be the only one who's completely sick of hearing the same regurgitated lines over and over again, with the same misinformation and circle jerk constantly being spread, right?

I came to this sub because I love the series, and I wanted to hear other people's opinions and why they have them, yet it seems like the people here only care about making sure new players aren't welcome unless they agree to the hive mind

It's to the point where bringing up fallout is like bringing up politics at a family reunion

On the one side you have people who make their entire personality shitting on Bethesda and sucking off obsidian

On the other you've got the people who blindly defend everything shady Bethesda does and if you say anything bad about the game then you're insulting them personally

Why can't anyone just have a civil discussion about the franchise we all love anymore?

Bitter about FO 76? - Mods Fallout Miami and Fallout Cascadia are coming.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 04:40 PM PDT

It won't make you less angry at Bethesda but these mods could probably use your support and they might well be the future of Fallout.

Fallout could benefit so much from the A-Life system ala S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 02:43 AM PDT

If you aren't familiar with the STALKER series (which I highly reccomend to any Fallout fans), here's a rundown of what I'm talking about:

    https://blackshellmedia.com/2017/08/12/a-life-an-insight-into-ambitious-ai/

(Ignore the buzz terms like Emergent Gameplay, the article is actually really insightful)

It's regarded as one of the best open-world AI systems around, and it's a miracle it exists or functions. The games went through absolute development hell, as vanilla launches they're riddled with bugs, and the X-Ray engine can get pretty unstable. However, it leads to so many believably natural encounters with other STALKERS, the wildlife, anomalies, the environment itself, and every other combination, even when the player isn't neccecarily present or involved.

This could work so well for the Fallout games. I am very aware that Fallout 3/4 have random events/encounters, and that Fallout NV will sometimes spawn squads of opposing factions to fight each other, approach the player, or attack the player; none of this really fits what I mean. The 3D Fallout's random encounters/battles are scripted, even if the outcome solely depends on the AI and player interference.

A-Life (or a potential system like it) would mean roaming packs of scorpions that may come across roaming traders, resulting in firefights. Not a set piece that is randomly generated to benefit the player, mind you, but what is almost a natural random encounter between the two groups. This would work so well in New Vegas in particular, due to the multitude of factions, their relationships with eachother, and their relationships with the player (which are all mostly variable).

Imagine coming across 3-way fights between the Legion, NCR, and Brotherhood from squads that were spawned at their faction's bases, and happend across eachother while they were attempting to accomplish individual goals. The Brotherhood were looting an old factory, but the Legion had tracked them there and attempted to ambush them. However, none realized an NCR patrol happened to be walking the nearby road before the shooting started.

Obviously this is all just a dream of mine, the engine and developers wouldn't work with such a system. I play almost as much STALKER as I do Fallout titles, and often wish that each franchise borrowed more from the other, as different at heart as they are.

What do you guys think about an A-Life type system in Fallout? What systems from the STALKER or other games would you like to see implimented in a Fallout game, new or old?

Brain Dead is one of my favourite quests in Fallout 4

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 07:58 PM PDT

This entire quest is so interesting, thought provoking, and hilarious. From discussing art with Santiago, to finding evidence around the crime scene, to learning that Fisto isn't the only robot in the Fallout franchise that you can have sex with. This quest is brilliant and so is Far Harbor.

My Idea For Fallout 5 or spin-off

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 02:44 AM PDT

    Hello all.

What does everyone think of maybe doing a Fallout game set in the London?

Personally I'm curious to see how other parts of the world faired after the war.

Serious Question: Who will actually be buying a subscription for Fallout First; and why?

Title says it - I just can't imagine anyone actually wanting the subscription, I'm interested to hear otherwise.

Any skyrim like lock picking mods for Fallout 3,NV, and 4?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 10:27 PM PDT

Was wonder if there was a mod like that out there. Kind of liked the way you could pick really hard locks at any level but with the disadvantage of more failed attempts. Also something like this for hacking if possible?

Fallout 76 is an experiment in using AWS

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 02:03 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I was reading an article on Fallout 76 and stumbled across an interesting line about their use of Amazon Web Services:

"When a Fallout 1st member starts a Private World, a dedicated World is launched on an AWS server," Bethesda said.

This honestly leads me to think Fallout 76 is wholly an experiment in monetisation:

    1. Add multiplayer capability to a singleplayer game (create the problem)
    2. Offer Private Worlds within their MP game, a SP-like experience (fix the problem they created)
    3. Use AWS so cost is actually only incurred _while someone is using a Private World_, an incredibly cost-efficient method.

    From the AWS site:

Pay-as-you-go allows you to easily adapt to changing business needs without overcommitting budgets and improving your responsiveness to changes. With a pay-as-you-go model, you can adapt your business depending on need and not on forecasts, reducing the risk of overpositioning or missing capacity.

That's not to mention the whole Atom Shop thing. It really seems as though Bethesda's attitude is "spend as little as possible, charge as much as possible" to a degree that's almost satirical.

    Did fallout 4 have a day-one patch?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 11:46 PM PDT

So I am playing Fallout 4 for the first time in a while and decided to try Dogmeat for the first time

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 04:10 PM PDT

Softlocked my game because I tried to access a terminal and glitched inside the dog. How in the fuck does this dog manage to get in every single spot it isnt suppose to be in? Stops in doorways, always in front of where you need to be, throwing a grenade at an enemy are you? Dogmeat thinks you're playing fetch because the fucker goes right on top of it and gets itself killed.

    This dog man.

Fallout 2 Main Quest Time Limit?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 04:24 PM PDT

I am playing my first playthrough of fallout 2 and just experienced a cutscene where prophetic guy back at your village says something along the lines of your light is lost for the GECK. I cannot remember exactly what he said but it sounded like I just doomed my village and now have basically ruined the main quest for the game. I have checked forums and it's determined that I have 13 years ingame to complete the main quest. I know certainly haven't spent that much time in game because I only just made it past Vault City. I overall do not know what to believe if I have or haven't failed yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you still prefer having a voiced protagonist in the next Fallout games?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 11:08 AM PDT

I feel like having a voiced protagonist is really neat but it's a very ambitious way of handling the dialogue system especially in a game like Fallout. Just look at FO4. It did more harm than good by limiting the dialogue options. What's your opinion?

    Very Unpopular Opinion

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 07:02 PM PDT

That Bethesda is (hopefully) gonna get their shit together and regain our trust. It's not unheard of to see companies go down this road and then bounce back.

My first gaming PC in 10yrs, know nothing about Fallout but I bought the game - I need some backstory to this game!

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 03:32 PM PDT

Hey guys, as the title said I bought Fallout 4 (PC) and although it's an incredible game so far, I feel like I'm missing out by not playing the earlier ones. Is this a problem? And is there somewhere I could read up on the backstory (if there is one connected to this game) without reading about this game so I don't spoil it?

This community is awesome, thanks again guys.
